This Just In: Cutetropolis reader and superlative shutterbug SoccerSue captured this dear moment, which led to an impressive award.
I found out this morning that two of the three photos I submitted to the WA State Fair photo competition were accepted for display (they usually have about 800 submissions, so it’s difficult to have one accepted), and one of them won Judges’ Choice! Here are the photos — the one of mama deer and her fawn was the photo that won Judges’ Choice.

Since this is a follow up post from Saturday I’d also like to follow up and say “Thanks for the inspiration!” to Georgiana with your spaghetti sauce making day. (How did it go?) I’ve been laboring all day in the kitchen – though it started last night. I grilled all the beautiful red carmen peppers and charred the eggplant. I also grilled the poblanos (but I’m not sure yet what I’ll do with them). I now have two jars of preserved roasted red peppers for sandwiches, I have two loaves of rosemary potato bread in their past prove, and a nice batch of baba ganouj. I’m taking a knitting break to finish the prove and then I will make a batch of Minimalist Baker’s smokey beet burgers. They freeze beautifully and when I’m so hungry I can’t decide what I want they are just perfect.
