It’s the waiting that gets to me. Those long moments before she comes home. I’d finished all my chores for the day — unrolled the toilet paper, knocked everything off her nightstand, made good progress on shredding the armchair. But it’s not fulfilling until she walks through that door, sees my hard work, and showers me with compliments like “What the hell is all this?!” and “I should have adopted a parakeet!”
