OK, instead of the unhappy hermit cat video, let’s watch this video that reader fkaWaldenPond just shared, which shows us that for some kitties, a snow pack is snow trouble at all.

This kitty is bad ass!!!
OK, clearly I missed something with the last post, but this kitty is cute. I would watch this with some cocoa and a warm blanket, though.
The last kitty post was a little mean-spirited – sort of laughing at the cat, not with the cat.
🙁
I didn’t think the hermit cat video was sad or mean spirited, I don’t know if there was comments to that effect but I don’t understand why the post was deleted.
NTMTOM can do what he likes this is his site and I hope he feel free to post any video he wants and not feel pressured to please everybody all the time.
OK now that I got that off my chest, I’m going to watch Boots digging his igloo again.
Thanks, Gigi. I think in this case the complaints were valid, so I removed the post. Interested parties can have a look at the video here.
Thank you for removing post. Kitty was scared. ?
Boots, on the other paw, is not afraid of anything. Watching Boots trying to reach True North is much better. Reincarnated Robert Edwin Peary, obviously.
Aw, poor baby. I wouldn’t say it was mean-spirited, either, but kitty did look frightened. Sounds like he was in a strange, noisy place and just wanted to feel safe.
Agreed. That looks like a noisy, too bright airport with too many scary sights/sounds/smells/people.
Kitty needs to be put back in their carrier where they feel safer. Don’t like that kid taking off the pan when kitty was obviously scared and trying to hide.
Missed that post, but after viewing, agree cat was scared and confused.
I don’t think any of us are interested in things that really upset or frighten our furry, feathery or other animal friends. This should be a happy place and my thanks to NTMTOM for keeping it that way.
Gigi! Hear, hear and Huzzah! In total agreement. Sorry folks but if you don’t like what the man posts, well very politely and with great respect, kindly go elsewhere.
I second Gigi all the way too.

That’s not an igloo. That’s a quinzee. An igloo is built out of stacked ice/packed snow blocks, while a quinzee is dug out of a pile of snow.”
Yay, I learned a new word! I knew it wasn’t an igloo, but I didn’t know there was a word for this. 🙂
Build your own quinzee, just like Boots!Heres how!

To the “CatCave”!
“There’s an outside in here somewhere!”
Ah, much better! That is one happy kitty playing in the snow!! 😀 I’m gonna go watch him again!
Boots humans love him enough to let him play, even though he’s making it snowy inside!
Love when Boots plays smack-down with the snow clods!
All I can think is that Boots has a very indulgent owner who lined the floor with towels and doesn’t mind high heating bills.
He looks so pleased with his efforts and I can’t believe how blue the snow looks in his igloo/quinzee/whatever.
Sno-cat cave. Only for me. Please go away. Now.
I came here to say that’s a snow cave, not an igloo (a mistake by the video poster, not by NTMTOM), and then I learned the word quinzee. However, I’m still going to go with snow cave, because that was not a manufactured pile of snow, it just happened on its own. Either way, the cat was having fun. And I was impressed along with Kar at how blue the snow looked. We don’t see much outside; maybe this was a drift of snow against the door, and it was much less deep a foot or two away from the house? Maybe Boots dug almost all the way through and that’s why we see that glow, because the snow is only a few inches thick?
The blue of the light shining through the snow is being enhanced by the white balance setting on the camera so that it’s bluer than it might seem otherwise. (See another example here.)
However, that is the color of glacial ice; it’s crystalline structure is different and scatters blue light. On a backpacking trip many years ago, I camped above a glacier, and when the full moon came up and shone down on the ice, it glowed a beautiful pale turquoise blue. It was the most amazing thing!
I love this! I didn’t expect the title to be literal (I expected Boots to be simply swatting at snowballs in an adorable way, or something) – but he totally knows where he’s going with his project!
Hope you don’t me posting a link to my flickr account as i don’t know how to post it directly into this bit, but i have a photo of my little Chucky cat in an igloo i made for her 🙂
Chucky looks quite pleased with her igloo, Caz! She’s a beauty; I love black cats!
This is hilarious!! Especially that your cat seems to enjoy being inside the igloo.
That’s adorable – she definitely seems to approve! 😀
Thank you all! Chucky was content for maybe a full 1 minute! The photos taken after are of her rolling around in the snow eating her paws, she’s a special kitty and i luv her 😉
Wow, this kitty is having as much fun in the snow as a dog!?
“I was gonna put buttresses in!”
