Links: Killa Chinchilla

And finally: The Breath of Life

Faye sends in thisย once in a lifetime rescue. An Idaho man found a bird frozen to a fence, and freed the poor critter with only his hands and his warm breath.

Went *thud* at the first chinchilla picture. I’m sure the rest of the links are wonderful, but I may never know.

I never thought that a bird could get frozen to a fence/pole. Makes sense though. I like to think the little birdie’s chirping as he flew away was him saying thank you to the kind man who freed him.

Chinchilla babies completely destroyed any chance of me getting to my to-do list today.

  4. Murray C. January 9, 2017 / 11:10 am

I wanted to give the man who saved the bird an enormous hug – what a kind and gentle soul. And the baby chinchillas, wow, fuzzy little balls of cuteness – and that scruffy kitten w/o elbows – I cant to kees and kees! And pups out the whazzoo – life is good.

    Mr. Idaho is my hero.
    His heart and soul are
    good.

I vote we make Nelson Wilson (from his YouTube channel) an honorary citizen of Cutetropolis and give him the key to the city.

    • debg January 9, 2017 / 11:32 am

I vote Mike plan a Men of Cutetropolis calendar for 2018. That guy has upped his good karma considerably.

Mike, bless you for the sweet, adorable, hilarious links today. I say this every time, but today you’ve really outdone yourself.

      • N. Fritz January 9, 2017 / 11:36 am

How is the finger today, DebG? Sending u healing vibes!

        • debg January 9, 2017 / 3:03 pm

Thanks so much! I’ve been able to avoid pain meds today, though I’m about to lie down for a nap. Learning how to do stuff one-handed happens pretty quickly when you’re motivated (and live alone).

          • Amyliz January 9, 2017 / 6:11 pm

Sounds like you are doing well, DebG! I also live alone and I understand about learning to do stuff one-handed when I had a hand injury several years ago!

The bird rescue brought tears to my eyes. And the baby chinchillas really need to come and live with me.

    • Amyliz January 9, 2017 / 1:41 pm

I got teary-eyed, too. What a kind and gentle man.

  8. allein ? January 9, 2017 / 11:53 am

Okay, recovered a bit, and just went through the Puppy Bowl list.

Daisy the Chihuahua mix means business!

And it’s nice to see they’re open to handicapped (pawdicapped?) pups with Lucky. Wonder what his story is.

What wonderful links! And I noticed that the Florida Little Dog Rescue is in Central Florida, which makes me very happy since I am, too. They have *8* puppies, including backups, in this year puppy bowl! I suspect that we’ll be talking to them when the time comes for our next pup. Hopefully not for many years! But they look like a wonderful organization.

Mr. Bird Saver definitely belongs in the coffee table book! Such a kind and gentle heart. ?

And the birdie video made me all teary-eyed. Poor thing.

  11. Rachel January 9, 2017 / 1:17 pm

It was seriously cold pretty much across Idaho last week – it was -10F when I went to work on Friday, and colder some other places. That poor scared cold little birdie, I am so happy such a lovely rescuer came along.

    • Laura January 9, 2017 / 2:03 pm

Hi, Rachel. We’re you able to dig your way through the snow to the Lodge?

        Lolllz, this is a po-po-po-meta-meta-meta comment!! Seriously, the best. Thank you Rachel’s Mom, Laura. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
Mike, you have created such an awesome space the mother of a commenter must comment to check of her daughters situation. Thank-you.

My chinchillas aren’t babies anymore, but they’re still adorbs!

    • allein ? January 9, 2017 / 4:41 pm

I think we need proof of that statement.

      • Murray C. January 9, 2017 / 4:52 pm

        Oh, yes!

      • Brouhaha January 9, 2017 / 5:19 pm

Ok, I have pics, but they’re too large to post? Tutorial on pic posting? Anyone?

  13. Faye January 9, 2017 / 4:10 pm

And the Giant huffed and he puffed and he SAVED the little birdie.

The article said the birds drink water from the heated drinking station and this birdie got its feet wet then froze onto the metal.

    • Murray C. January 9, 2017 / 4:51 pm

Oh, gosh I hope that doesn’t happen when our little birdies go to their heated spa/birdbath! man, you try to do something and then those pesky unintended consequences undo it all!

    • Smartypants January 9, 2017 / 6:03 pm

Does his little drink have ice in it? He’s pretty pampered! ๐Ÿ˜€

      They are super adorable.

      • Amyliz January 9, 2017 / 6:15 pm

These pictures have proven your statement to be true, Brouhaha! They are adorable!

        • allein ? January 9, 2017 / 7:16 pm

Yes, you have proved your statement this time, Brouhaha, but you cannot just expect us to take your word for it in the future!

I want to very gently pet the little foot and the teeny nosicle on the bottom one.

      • Brouhaha January 9, 2017 / 6:48 pm

Hahaha! That is Bella, and she always wanted some of my water, so I took to getting her own glass with ice.

        • Smartypants January 9, 2017 / 10:05 pm

She looks like the perfect little hostess – I picture her passing the cheese straws and a teeny plate of cruditรฉs ๐Ÿ˜€

        • allein ? January 9, 2017 / 10:33 pm

          That is too funny. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Starfish January 9, 2017 / 6:10 pm

For a moment I misread the last word as “chinchillae” and thought Mike was inventing a new plural.

      • debg January 9, 2017 / 6:19 pm

That’s actually a very OLD plural, in Latin!

        OMG the feets! the feets!

        • Brouhaha January 9, 2017 / 6:52 pm

The feets belong to Kiwi, she loves her hammock. She just turned 9 in December! She is a tripod due to an accident as a baby, so she has a little peg leg- they only amputated to to elbow. Well, she gets boogers in her corresponding nostril that she can’t get out with her peg leg so her nickname is Booger. She also refuses my help with booger extraction.

          • Murray C. January 9, 2017 / 8:56 pm

Omigod, they are beyond adorable – and, yes, I want to hold them close, to feel that soft fur and kiss those little piggy wigs. Wow. And “Clunk”.

          • Murray C. January 9, 2017 / 9:07 pm

That’s a riot – I’m amazed they live so long – how wonderful.

        • Murray C. January 9, 2017 / 8:57 pm

Right, the feminine ending. Unless it’s already a plural of the neutral ending of “chinchillum”. Hee!

    • Andrew January 9, 2017 / 8:40 pm

      So cute >:D

  14. fkaWaldenPond January 9, 2017 / 9:07 pm

Thank you Faye for sending in the frozen footed rescue video. That man is one of the strongest I have seen; I will hold on to this.

    • Faye January 9, 2017 / 9:49 pm

      Yay!
