Behold the coconut octopus, who uses discarded coconut shells in a variety of ways. Although the official story is that the shells provide protection, the truth is that the octopus didn’t have enough money in the budget for seahorses.
Clearly, this octopus watched “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” while taking notes:
This submissionย was carried across the ocean by Transentence and Murray C., who had on a line between them.
No…way! I was giggling with delight watching him/her tumbling along. So clever and dexterous!
I dunno…”transportation” and “protection” look awfully similar…
*clip-clop clip-clop*
Not to mention both make me feel very dizzy.
Have never been much of a Monty Python fan, the English sense of humor escapes me. However the Octopus footage is wonderful. I’ve always thought that snorkeling is almost like a trip to another planet.
Or maybe the octopus is the lazy kind, like me – why waste your energy walking when there’s this wonderful Uber Coconut service? ๐
Is there an app for that? I guess they must have that new cell phone they’ve been advertising as waterproof (or high-end champagne-proof…).
Would that be a…shell phone?
Hey-YOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ๐ ๐ ๐
Damn, why didn’t I think of that?!
Kinda amazed there IS a shell phone!
Smartipants wins the internet again!!!
Thank you! (curtseys nicely).
Stamps foot like Varuca Salt.
“I want to roll down a hill in a coconut”
๐ (Well, actually I don’t as it would make me even dizzier than watching this but… ๐
An animal that makes and uses vehicles for locomotion. We are not alone.
Octopods are very smart. Quite clever at adapting the use of things. Will have to remember this guy for next year’s animal adaptations unit.?
Kids will love it!
