Reader Kristin has a bit of a rat problem: “The Mainely Rat Rescue just took in over 300 rats, rescued from a hoarding situation. Many of the females are pregnant, which is quickly increasing the number of rats being cared for.”
So if you’re in the NY, NJ, New England, or PA area, visit The Mainely Rat Rescue to learn how you can help foster or adopt a rat, volunteer, or donate.
Aw, I wish I could take some!
There was a similar story recently in the next town over from me involving 270 dogs. The animal shelter here is looking for help, too.
NTMTOM, thank you so much for posting!
Allein, I hope all the dogs near you find good homes, too!
I hate hearing these things – I work – peripherally at this point- with a rabbit rescue and we hate Easter time. To have pregnant females is discouraging. Wish I could help out with the ratites – they seem like such wonderful pets and they’re awfully cute.
That spayed paw is just killing me with the cute.
I love ratties. Poor things. ?
NTMTOM, will you be continuing with the tradition of “Rats, it’s Monday”?
I don’t think I’ll be able to. I get very few pictures of cute rats from readers, and I don’t find enough of them in my own browsing. I would like to feature more rats, hamsters, mice and other “pocket pets” on the site, whenever I can funny photos of them.
NTMTOM, if you want rat pictures, I can probably supply them! I’m now fostering 24 ratties! I should be able to get at least some rat pictures out of them. 🙂
Send what you can! I’m especially drawn to pictures that suggest a funny caption, but I’ll look at everything and use as much as I can. Thank you! 🙂
Twenty-four? Bless you for doing this.
Wow! That must take some doing! Good for you. ??
