The Creepy-Crawly Part of This Balanced Breakfast

Shout out to Phred’s Mom who says “You keep me sane.” Indeed, sanity is a wonderful thing in small doses, but now it’s time to go a little crazy for two cute snakes named after breakfast foods: Donut, an African house snake; and Waffles, a Kenyan sand boa. Donut has a toy donut!

While Waffles, true to his nature, loves to bury himself in the sand, then peek out to say hello!

Creepy crawly makes me think bugs, not snakes. I can’t see the videos now, but I’m glad to know it’s no-legged critters and not a many-legged critters. ?

Are there enough for a peek-a-boo (or poo) tag?
This version was quite a cute moment!

I’m not a fan of snakes, or reptiles in general, but that mini-turtle sandbox is very cute.

I’ll just enjoy the stills, as snakes make me scream and run away in terror (for no good reason, I know). I too like the turtle sandbox.

He looks confused. Like he was expecting to pop out in Albuquerque.

lol…love the head popping out of the sand. “Hi!”

      • Laura September 12, 2016 / 8:29 pm

He turned left instead of right in the sandbox. That’s where he went wrong if he wanted to get to Albakoikee!

Adorable – I love snakies! And these two are clearly pampered.

I love how Donut hangs on to his toy donut and Waffles pee-a-boo is as cute as you can get!

  6. Amy September 12, 2016 / 6:20 pm

OMG, these 2 are freaking adorbs!

I am not a snake person, tend to scream like a banshee and run but those two are cute as can be.

Right?! Who could be scared of that teeny little silly face poking out of the sand?!

While I doubt I’d have the patience to have a snake, I think they’re lovely creatures, especially since I encountered garter snakes in my garden. Their skin is so soft and the small ones are exquisitely perfect in every detail. Tiny little flickety tongue, beautifully shaped head. Sigh. Ain’t nature grand?

Some people assume snakes are wet or slimy. In fact, as you say Murray, they are smooth and patterned with scales that look like embedded jewels.

I don’t know what kind it was, but someone in my college dorm had a little bitty pink one.

I don’t know what was cuter: a snake named Waffles, or that same snake peeking out of his sandbox.

I can neither like this nor dislike this. Not a snake fan in general but I can understand why others like them and find them cute. In a very untimely coincidence, I was awakened by a nightmare in which a boa constrictor got into my home and killed one of my buns. It was terrible and jolted me right out of bed this morning. Nightmares are pretty rare for me. It was quite out of the blue and I can’t think of anything that has happened to me recently to inspire such a bad dream. Then I log on first thing and see these wee little snakes. I think karma is trying to restore the balance.

Oh, that sounds dreadful – sorry to hear it! (I wonder if it was prompted by all the 9/11 media coverage – that is, the idea of an unexpected, terrible threat and wanting to protect your loved ones). Hopefully only nice dreams from now on.

I had one last night where I was very distressed (not unusual)…and a Capybara swam up to comfort me! It was so vivid that I could feel its breath on the palm of my hand. Really lovely. I’ll send him your way 🙂

        Oh, please do!

      • Murray C. September 13, 2016 / 8:13 pm

        That’s so dear!

    • Murray C. September 13, 2016 / 12:32 pm

That’s awful, Luna – I know I’d wake up from such a dream in a sweat and go check out my buns!

      • LunaChickFringe September 13, 2016 / 1:10 pm

I did go check on them because I thought maybe I was unconsciously picking up on some distress. I worry more about the one in the dream, Lily, because she had a choking incident about 2 years ago late one night. I didn’t even know it was happening. I just heard her fussing around in a way that I knew was different and decided to check. If I hadn’t she might have died. Totally terrifying. Coincidence saved us because I didn’t even know that could happen. I had recently ran across it on a bunny blog and it had videos on on how to do the bunny “Heimlich”. Ugh. Sorry to be such a bummer 🙁

No, it’s good information. I didn’t know that either. My little Clemmie is enduring something I’ve never encountered before. She seems to have injured her cornea, now her eye is filled with pus and she may have developed a cataract. We’ve been medicating her since I first had my shoulder surgery which has been tricky indeed. It’s still not looking great, tho’ she’s eating and scampering. But she’s now essentially blind in her right eye!

          • LunaChickFringe September 13, 2016 / 1:40 pm

Oh poor baby! Maybe it was a piece of hay. Goodness knows I’ve been poked and punctured by an errant piece of hay. It’s amazing how animals seem to adapt to these things. “Hay”, if she’s eating and pooping, it’s all good in bunnyland!
