Cutetropolites, I am proud to introduce to you Darth Anakin, but you can call her Ani (or Annie if your autocorrect prefers). Ani is the pride and joy of my oldest niece, who sadly discovered that she was allergic to rabbits and couldn’t keep her. SheΒ is currently living on my front porch, but I’m working on a plan to “rabbit proof” one room so that she can live indoors.

Welcome, Ani! A rabbit of regal bearing with what appear to be strong powers of disapproval, held in check thus far!
She’s a very cute rabbit. Is she the only animal friend you have, NTMTOM?
I’m also good pals with a pug named Sam, owned by my brother’s family. Ani and Sam were good buddies when they were living together.
Oh my gersh!!!!! First an unexpected puppy for Faye and now an unexpected bunneh for NTMTOM!!!!!!! I can’t wait to be peppered with bunneh photos!!!! Congrats Mike! Congrats Ani!!!!! Bet you’re a softie.
Use the cute Ani!
You’re a good guy to take her in Mike, but then we already knew that ?
Welcome NTMTOM to the wunderful world of being owned by a bunneh and an adorable Ani, at that. Many times it’s the hay that a person is allergic to, rather than the bunneh, too bad for your niece. The House Rabbit Society website is a great resource. Just when you think things are bunneh proof, they let you know differently and will often stubbornly try to get into or out of anything you’re blocking them from. Keep us updated with photos. Somehow the little pic before my name changed, all for the better since I don’t know how to add my own.

Sorry I posted twice, I just found out I had a typo in my email, thus the pic change– I’m tech challenged.
“Darth Anakin”is a great name! She looks a tad disapproving–perhaps because someone DARED to be allergic to her? Buns don’t have dander, so your niece must actually be allergic to the fur, which is not common.? I agree with Luv Bunny about the House Rabbit Society–they saved me frequently when I was a new bunny slave!? Do you know what breed she is? How old is she? So excited for you as you experience the joy that is a bunny! We certainly have plenty of bunny parents here if you have questions. Kisses to Ani!?
Ohhhh congratulations! Hope you’ll keep us posted on Ann’s adventures. Already I can see that the (disapproving) Force is strong with that one.
Hello Ani Bunny, I love how serious you look π
Hello, you beautiful bunneh! We’re happy to have you here and are excited to hear about all your new hare adventures.
Hare raising, I think you mean!?
Congrats to NTMTOM and Ani!
Ani looks incredibly soft! She’s gorgeous, Mike – many happy years with her. I got a bunny early on whose little girl was allergic to her – and I mean majorly allergic, and I have another friend who’s is very allergic to buns. They do lick their fur and the dried saliva flakes off, just as with dogs and cats, so it could be the reason.
Great photo, by the way.
Ani!!!!!!!! The disapproval lives on!
Congrats on your beautiful new addition, Ani!! A bun CAN be challenging but so worth it. I agree with the comments that a bunny parent thinks they’ve gotten everything out of reach only to find out the little dickens has found something else to get mischievous with!! They do keep you trying to stay one ‘jump’ ahead of them so be prepared to really put your thinking cap on sometimes to outsmart them. I speak from experience with Holland Lops, American Lops, Siamese, and Polish. Not all at once but over my 80 years. My first was when I was 9 years old. Bucky was a HUGE red eyed white. I fell in love with the small breeds several years ago. An American Lop is the long haired version of the Holland Lop as both have lop ears and are the same size.
Bunnies need an ongoing supply of hay all the time to keep their digestive tract working efficiently. Mine especially like timothy and orchard. No alfalfa hay after one year old as it is too high in protein and calories and has a slightly lower fiber content. Mine learn to drink out of a hanging water bottle so there isn’t anything for them to spill. Most are avid ‘chewers’ so they need something to chew on besides your furniture. That’s how they keep their teeth ground down. Favorites are wood toys, toilet paper and paper towel cardboard rolls. There are also willow hideaways for gerbils, hamsters, etc. that they LOVE to chew up. Petsmart is the only place I know of that carries them. And dry pine cones if you happen to have a tree in your vicinity.
Keep us posted on how she’s doing as there are several bunny owners in our group and love to hear about them. π
Addendum – Oxbow website is a wonderful place to get bunny supplies as well as Drs. Foster and( cripe I forget the second name. Not “Grant” those are sunglasses.) Well, I’ll post this and go looking – I get cat and rab supplies from them – free shipping if your order is over $49? something like that. And you can get subscription meds, too – ask your vet to fax the prescription and they’ll fill it at much less cost. I get lactated ringers (saline drip bags) and the hoses and needles from them at a great reduction from what my vet charges. Drs. Foster and Smith – that was a tough one. Zcheesh.
I can’t stop looking at those fuzzy lips and jowly bits – so cute. Ani is a winner.
“Drs. Foster & Smith,” I think.
(edit) – oops, never mind, I see you got it.
Fuzzy bits and jowly lips…perfect description and yes, just love them, wish I could snuggle that muzzle!
Water bottles are great if you have a bunneh that likes to play with or turn over water bowls. I’ve used bowls because it’s fun to watch them clean their feet, almost dipping into bowl or getting big slurps and letting the water run down their chin, to clean themselves. Guess I’m easily amused. Timothy hay, oat hay or orchard grass hay and fresh greens daily. I give out a small sprinkling of Oxbow timothy pellets at night.
Welcome, Ani! Congratulations, Mike, on the cute addition to your household!
Lovely bunny! Does she realize yet that she’s hit the bunny jackpot?
Congratulations on the new arrival, Mike! I am sure you will be a great “dad” to Ani and sounds like there are several folks here who can give you good advice about living with a bun!
What a gorgeous girl! So happy for you both.
A lovely bun she is. Congrats on taking her in, NTMTOM! Hopefully we can get regular updates as she adjusts to the new digs.
It is always unhappy when a pet ends up being unkeepable from allergies. Will your niece be able to spend time with Ani,in any amount?
My niece visits often, and she can handle Ani as long as she wears gloves.
Aw! Cute bunny! I don’t know much about bunnies, but my SIL is allergic to cats and dogs, but has discovered bunnies are ok. She has 4 bunnies, and her 2 females just had a litter of babies each, with 9 total babies. She has a daycare, and the kids love helping with bunny care. She built an elaborate house for them in the backyard. I say house because it is not a cage, it’s huge (we were both walking around in there), insulated and has insulated “rooms” inside it. Even my brother has been holding and socializing the babies, calling them his buds.
Ani has that look of “No Mike, no Mike, I swear I won’t crack up. Nope, you aren’t going to make me laugh…” (And next picture from this set, which you did not share, I may add, she is rolling on her back giggling away.) π
Yeah Mike and yeah Ani. Bunneh looks sooo cute and sooo soft. Many happy years ahead to the two of you. Just got back from dealing with my Mom’s place. Ughhh, what a chore. But at least I got a chance to meet my niece’s new kitten, a 4 month old black persian (never knew they came in that color) and got a hand lick from their Akita. OMG, kitty is so soft and floofy with lovely ear floof. Poor doggy is blind but has become much more sociable thanks to my niece training her. Used to be you couldn’t be around here as she’d try to attack but now she’s such a sweetie girl.
New sweetie girl. π π
Ani is beautiful! Many congratulations, Mike, on becoming a bunny dad! I know you’ll enjoy her, and of course all the advice you could ever need is a click away from all the excellent bunny parents here. We’ll need regular updates, you know! And details of her escapades. She’ll definitely have escapades, I can tell already, looking at that soft and furry disapproving face!
Speaking of Drs. Foster and Smith, they actually have a single retail location which we stopped at when we were near their location in the middle of nowhere, WI. it took us longer to find than to shop at, I think. But it’s kind of like Wall Drugs or South of the Border — you have to go there just to say you’ve been there! π
Ooooooo. Velvety soft deliciously grey curious bunny. Congratulations Mike. ?
YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!! As you can see, you will not want for advice when it comes to bunnehs! Here is an important piece of advice. Research a good rabbit vet. Lots of vets will say they see “exotics” but their training is minimal. Again, the House Rabbit Society can help you there with recommendations in your area that are “vetted” by other bunny parents. This site http://language.rabbitspeak.com/, is very old but still up and can help you understand your new bun.
