Sadly, I don’t actually have a pet of my own, though I would most likely not buy supplies online if I did.

I shop both on Amazon and one other site.

If it would help, I would be happy to add a link to Cutetropolis on my site.

Both my babies are gone but when they were with me I bought their food and litter from the pet store in my building.

I selected “I don’t shop online for pet supplies”, but would like to add “yet” to the statement.
Too long an explanation for here.
I try to help where I can.

Don’t shop online because shipping to my philly-home is a project. And even though I could ship to work, I’m not schlepping a giant bag of cat food home on SEPTA. So – Petco it is. Because – Jacques (in spite of being the foodie) is also prone to serious “blockages”. So he has to be on prescription food that is easiest to get at Petco. I can get the dry food, wet food, litter, Greenies, and Pill Pockets for Swee’Pea, all in one trip.
    There’s my 2¢.
    🙂
Interesting survey – for why? Mike?

I don’t shop online either. For the cat we go to PetSmart and for the rabbits I go to a feed and seed place that’s in a slightly more rural, horsey area. For the buns I buy horse bedding pellets for their litter, get a 50lb box of Oxbow hay and 25lb of Oxbow timothy pellets and Critical Care. We also buy a regular bale of orchard grass.

After running out of cat food for the umpteenth time I started a regular delivery at Chewy.com.

I buy dog food at Walmart.

I get the heartworm and flea/tick meds from the vet.

I get most accessories (beds, sweaters, bowls) at TJ Maxx.

These are the types of things I get from Amazon: dog booties, slow feeder bowls, furminators, dog bed heating pads.

That’s similar to my approach. I go to PetSmart for the regular needs: food, kitty litter, little toys. But if I’m looking for something a little different/pricey/particular, like a cat tree or carrier, I shop Amazon for better variety and lower price.

Me too, only for cats. Feliway is much cheaper at Amazon; local Petsmart supplies food, litter, Greenies treats.

      More clarification on buying behaviour:

I have a car and live in suburbs, so multiple brick & mortar vendors are not an inconvenience for me.

I buy dog food at Walmart because it is the lowest cost and I don’t buy anything special/fancy – just Iams. If I fed the dogs anything other than a major brand, then I would have to go to a pet supply store.

Anytime I have bought anything with an expiration date (cosmetics, etc.) from an online vendor, I have been disappointed with what I have received. I think they send you the items with the shortest shelf life when shopping online, since it’s difficult to return things. That is why I avoid buying food and medication on line.

For medications, I have found that my vet has the best prices (even better than Sam’s Club).

All Amazon all the way except for heartworm medication.

  10. Ricky’s Mom January 13, 2017 / 6:00 am

I try to support local businesses and do most of my shopping for Ricky at a small shop a block from where I live. But if I can’t find what I need, I do a websearch, check descriptions and prices, and purchase from whoever has what I need to get. That has included Amazon (via the Cutetropolis Smile link), Drs Foster and Smith, and various places whose names I don’t have bookmarked because it was a one-shot deal. I get all of Ricky’s meds from the vet—I can order them online, or call ahead and go to the office to pick them up.

Mike: Does that mean that you are being a Poll cat ?

    • belphebe January 13, 2017 / 11:50 am

“LIKE”!! Don’t look now, but your “poll cat” looks suspiciously like a ferret. An adorable ferret! 🙂

I do like the pun. Well done!

      • Murray C. January 13, 2017 / 1:34 pm

Yes! Should be a skunk! Or at the very least a pollster dressed like a cat.

      • allein ? January 13, 2017 / 11:59 am

It is also a skunk. If you click the “disambiguation” link at the top of the article you’ll find several other uses of the word.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polecat_(disambiguation)

        Animals:
Skunk (Mephitidae), similar-looking but only distantly related species

(Insert comment about how Doug’s pun stinks here.) 😉

        • Murray C. January 13, 2017 / 1:37 pm

Allein, I have a friend who texted “disambiguation” and autocorrect turned it into “(something) Iguanadon” (can’t remember the first word)

          • allein ? January 13, 2017 / 2:25 pm

            🙂

I just searched emojipedia for dinosaur and it came up with “Sauropod” so I clicked it and it says ‘Sauropod is a candidate for inclusion in Unicode 10.0 scheduled for release in 2017.”

            ?

      Bravo, Doug!

Thanks to everyone for the additional insights. I wasn’t expecting a lot of comments but it’s nice to learn how people use the Internet.

To answer Tara’s question, the main thing I hope to learn from the poll is whether it will be worthwhile to join the affiliate programs of either Petsmart.com or Petco.com. So far, there isn’t much reader interest in either of those sites.
