I’m a grumpy bunny and I have needs, dammit! And those needs include lots of pet-pets! Your only job is to give me those pet-pets, so make with the pet-pets, already!
So much disapproval, Faye. More at Laughing Squid.

Clementine doesn’t grumble and thump but she does booplesnoot me for more pets. Fergus is more circumspect and doesn’t always like being stroked. But when he is in the mood and I scritch his hindquarters he starts grooming Clemmie and it’s pretty adorable. It is very relaxing to watch someone stroke a critter, isn’t it? Nice work if you can get it.
Don’t think I’ve ever heard bunny vocalizations before. 😮
My rabbit Ani also does a grunt-thump when she’s annoyed with a situation.
I love the little delay between the stopping of the petting and the realization of the stoppage – every bun I’ve ever known does that.
Yeah, it’s like they are so blissed out it takes a few seconds to realize–Hey! The slave stopped! *thump* How DARE you!! *thump, thump*?
Me neither! I love the indignant thumpingks, though.
I had no idea bunnies made noises! That is certainly the Voice of Disapproval if ever I’ve heard it. I Highly Approve of this Disapproval on Grounds of Cuteness.
What do bunnies do for pet-pets in the wild?
Oh, yes, sure sign of bunny displeasure, that grunt!
It’s the bunny stomp!
Hee!
Grumpy never sounded so good!!
I get the groan and I’ve seen Thumper thump on Bambi.
How is bun making the single thump? Is it the wee bun making the single thump sound? It seems so loud, is it really that loud, or just a close and or turned up mic?
Apparently my brief aquaintences with buns have not imparted enough knowledge.
To Haha, – bunneh thumpings can be loud and done because of being mad, startled or as a warning. That bunneh loves the petting and is so precious wanting more. These bunneh posting today are full of the cute, cuter and cutest and some disapproval, I love it.
Thanks! I knew I could count on a cutetroplian for an answer!
I couldn’t tell for sure from this video, is it accomplished by thumping the hind foot, like in the movie Bambi, or some inner mystical mechanism?
Is it ever done for a happy emotion, or just mad, warning, etc?
The thumping is with the back feet. My Pepper is small but when she thumps on the carpeted floor, you know it. My bunnehs have sonetimes thumped after getting their nails clipped, being held longer than they wanted, scared by a sudden noise or movement, or sometimes, who knows, it’s a bunneh, they make up their own rules. When they’re happy, they do what I call ” doing their toofies”, a gentle grinding of the teeth and sometimes contented sighing sounds.
When I was recovering from my shoulder surgery I was quartered in the bunny area and boy, did I hear goings on, but the stomping, since I was that close to it, was extraordinary. You do wonder that a little creature could put so much into the action – goes to show how strong those back legs are.
Thanks for the insider knowledge. 🙂
Also bunny ‘flops’. Whan a bunneh just kind of flops over it’s usually a sign of contentedness/happiness/relaxation. Meaning the bunneh feels completely at ease and happy.
This is the perfect Sunday afternoon video. I love the last few seconds where bun jumps up for extra cuddles.
I love the hop up and then slide down.
Yes, I’d happily serve as a bun mountain. That was adorable.
The ascent of Mount Hoomin!
Such a lucky human to have a bunny who demands pettings. That human looks to be a highly accomplished carer of bunns.
Your assessment is right on the money, Faye – I was watching carefully and that person knows how to stroke a bunny!
I’ve seen this video many times, and can watch it repeatedly! So glad to see it here?
I’ve gone back to watch telling myself I am looking for the thump maneuver. It is a soothing experience. mmmmmmm
