Fiona the preemie hippo took another big step today — into a much bigger pool. To help her prepare for life in the larger hippo enclosure, Fiona took a swim in one of the pools her mom and dad use, with the water level lowered for her safety. And Fiona continues to grow, approaching 150 pounds and downing 64 oz of formula five times a day.
Thanks as always to Fionaphile Lois M.
OMG- her little back feetsies! 🙂
My thoughts exactly!!
First thing I awwwwwww-ed over, too! How cute is that?
Fiona has stolen my heart, I never knew a hippo could be so darn cute!
Comes up for air: I’m a big girl now!
ME LOVES FIONA!!!!!
Adult swim!
Such personality! Launches herself through the water stretched out! Such fun! Coming up underneath the floaty! Such flippy ears! Happy!
“Listen up, hoomins. I’m pushing 150 pounds now. I’ll come out of the water when I’m good and ready! No more telling THIS hippo what to do!”
I can’t get past her flippy earses.
I think that’s my favorite thing about hippos…
It’s adorable regardless of the size of the hippo!
I love to watch her dive and see how fast she goes under water. Like a submarine or even a dolphin. I’m waiting for her to chase her caregivers and give one of them a nip on a bare leg. OUCH!! As soon as I get an update, I send it in so all of you get to see her ASAP. I know one of these days we won’t get updates as often and I’m already feeling Fiona withdrawal.
How did you sign up for the daily updates? I just check the blog every day now.
Thanks for sharing the updates with us through NTMTOM.
The daily updates may refer to this page, which usually has a short news item about Fiona nearly every day: http://cincinnatizoo.org/blog/2017/01/25/premature-hippo-baby-updates/
Oh, and you’re welcome!
Thanks, FlowerFanatic, for keeping us up to date on Fiona! I LOVE seeing what she is up to.
“I’m coming to get you, hoomin person!” Wish I had a baby hippo chasing ME in the pool.
Fiona now outweighs me considerably but she is still adorable! It’s been so wonderful to watch her grow and thrive!
This teeny ears gets me every time! 🙂
