Well, it’s finally happened. After years of squeezing himself into smaller and smaller spaces, Maru’s mind has snapped and he now thinks he is a fish. I suppose the early warning sign came when Maru tried to crawl into a fishbowl last week, but at least now he’s found a fish tank that’s a bit more his size. A bit.
It’s betta this way, Andrew Y. and Gigi the cat lady.
This is the ultimate proof that Maru is 99% fluff. How else could he squeeze his entire body (tail not included) into that fish tank making himself HALF the size of Hana? That aerial shot was priceless.
Dana, I think the tail made it in, too! At :52, it seemed to be encased.
Everything but the ear tip.
Oh yes! I was so focused on the very end. The more fitting feel. ?
Definitely one of my fave Maru videos now XD
Maru… proving that a round peg CAN fit into a square hole.
Good one!!
Maru is getting weirder. I realized that he is actually looking for small things to squeeze into. I think it’s his version of cuddling.
Maybe one day he’ll like hugs, one can only hope!

“Unfortunately he refuses hugs, but still.”
That’s fascinating. I read a book by a woman with autism, Unfortunately I’ve forgotten her name but she’s famous. She wrote that when she was young she built a contraption that she could lie down in and it would mechanically enclose her, sort of hug her. She could not stand to be touched by human beings but wanted to be hugged.
That’s really interesting! :O
Also kind of makes me think of this
and the dogs that roll themselves up in a blanket to sleep
That is so sweet and touching. It’s wonderful that the dog’s humans could help her eat that way and survive..
Temple Grandin.
You can buy various squeezy contraptions for kids with sensory issues. (I think my friend’s son has one; he’s not autistic but he has a sensory processing disorder.)
Yes! Thank you.
Just today I bought a squishy ball for a two-year-old in my classroom who appears to fall on the autism spectrum; hasn’t been diagnosed yet but hopefully soon so we can get support services in place for him.
Maru, on the other hand, is just delightfully weird!
That’s so funny, I just thought of the Maru / Temple Grandin similarity for the first time this week – prompted by seeing a how-to-sew book for making cozy weighted wraps and blankets for people with anxiety/PTSD in addition to autism spectrum disorders. Similar to Thundershirts/swaddling, etc. Small world!
That is Temple Granden. She wrote an autobiography which was made into an award winning movie. She teaches and works with cattle.
I like that she still gives him an A on huggability.
He looks huggable, and I guess that’s all that matters.
This post is gold, Mike.
I could watch this all day. Very relaxing. Similar to an art performance piece. Cat In 3D Rectangle. Good physics lesson too. Does Maru have the same volume outside and inside the tank?
I agree that Maru seems to be getting weirder, and I love it! What a wonderfully goofy cat.
Growing up I had this weird idea of wanting a glass topped desk that is also an aquarium. Now I want a glass desk that Maru would want to climb into instead.
How do you find all these images!!!!!!!
Google image search. ?
Is this a real thing? I love it!
I don’t know if it’s something you can actually buy, but I found it here.

Oh very nice. Maru would approve!
