Such a beautiful , otter pattern fur coat on this adorable Rex. I’ll gladly help with the treat bag, filling it and carrying the bunneh around.

What a Sweetie. By the way, Mike, how’s Ani doing?

Ani’s great, thanks for asking. Our morning ritual involves letting her out on the lawn so she can graze and explore. Typically, Shorty the cat is waiting at the screen door to be let in, and there’s a bit of an awkward exchange as he and Ani pass each other. Shorty and all the neighborhood cats find Ani a bit intimidating, and Ani for her part just wants to be friends with them.

That’s so interesting! Is she bigger than they are? Why do you think she scares them?

Ani is just a bit smaller than the cats. Some of the cats are feral and are skittish around anything they don’t trust, even other cats. But Ani and Shorty have been around one another on many occasions, and he still steps gingerly around her, giving her plenty of room to pass, etc. I don’t think he’s displaying fear so much as an intimidated over-politeness.

Ah! Sharing a household/territory/human and not wanting to trigger territorial conflict! After you Alphonse! No, no, after you Gaston!

Our buns, with the exception of Fergus who is afraid of – well, today it was a duster – got along with our cat reasonably well. But there was a spell where everything was a little touch and go – rabbits and cats don’t speak the same language so their various moves can be misinterpreted. Rabbits, especially females, are very territorial and will lunge and put their heads down – PET ME! PAY ME OBEISANCE! – and the cat will see it as aggression. It just takes patience and supervised exposure for them to become buddies.
