“How dare you leave me to starve in a freezing house, completely at the mercy of burglars and ferocious stray dogs small enough to fit through the cat door?”

“And Martian death rays – you forgot the Martian death rays!”

The worst part was I lost my phone in the airport. Had to get a new one (God bless cloud storage!). New one’s camera doesn’t work. ? Should’ve just stayed home and cuddled kitties like they wanted me to.

On the plus side, my sob story got me a free upgrade from compact car to Cadillac. So that was nice…

    • debg March 24, 2018 / 11:01 am

Sounds like a horrid trip. You should always opt for staying home, I think! Beautiful kitties need lots of love.

Travel is not that much fun anymore – between airport craziness, TSA agents practically strip searching you, cramped airline seats and idiots abroad – sometimes I think it’s best to just stay home.

I’m in the middle of organizing my mom’s memorial service/family reunion and have to coordinate 6 groups of people traveling from various parts of the US on different days, book cars, lodging, etc. Talk about crazy logistics. After this, I should become a travel agent.

And here’s my favorite lost my phone story. About 1-1/2 years ago, finally took our dream vacation to Hawaii and the very first day, I lost my phone in the water. And not just any water. I was sooo embarrassed – I dropped it while we were on the USS Arizona Memorial. You’re not allowed to bring any bags into the site so I had my hands full and I was trying to take a picture of what the Arizona looks like under water. Hubby says that all he heard was a tink and kerplunk. He looked at me, asked “Was that your phone” and all I could do was nod yes. Told the ranger and supposedly divers go down a couple times a year and if they bring up my phone, they’ll contact me. Well, my phone is now a permanent part of the USS Arizona Memorial. Spent the first morning of our cruise at an AT&T store getting a replacement for the trip and filing an insurance claim. Not the best way to start off your vacation. Thankfully, the rest of the trip went smoothly and we had a great time.

Well, I will definitely be staying home with my two kitties today; freezing rain here…yuck! (Yesterday I made sure to stock up on cat treats, of course!)

Muppet, you have to get a phone with a working camera so you can take more pictures of your gorgeous fur baby!

First day of spring break! Starting things off right with a good spring cleaning. And a list of things I *want* to do instead of the things I think I should be doing when school’s in session. Keep safe, friends in the Heartland! Stay inside with a good book and treat yourself to afternoon tea!

It’s funny that the photo has to do with travel because right now I’m sitting in a coffee shop havind an espresso waiting for my husband who is getting his international driver’s permit for our upcoming trip to Europe.

Happy Caturday! I’m on vacation this week. It’s sunny and, apparently, supposed to be in the mid-40s today. All the leftover snow should be melting. I have some errands to do and I hope to get some serious spring cleaning done while I’m off.

Also I ordered my bag on sale from Macy’s and it’s on its way. I also started browsing around the website and added a pair of shoes (hopefully they fit; I don’t like buying shoes online) and a robe. All together they came to just about what the bag would be at full price with tax. Can’t complain.

I’m off to grocery shop and then I’ll spend the weekend writing and editing (for which I get paid), doing household chores (for which I don’t), baking some vegan donuts (which are their own reward), and finishing up a spinning project (yarn is also its own reward).

After a busy, kinda stressful week, staying home and relaxing(ish), will be perfect! Plus chocolate donuts.

Stay safe, everyone. If you’re sick of cold, rainy/snowy weather, come visit Colorado. We’re supposed to hit 68 degrees today.

I am going to a skating party today. My granddaughter’s birthday was the 22nd, and she wanted her birthday party at the roller skating rink. The thought crossed my mind, “I used to love skating every weekend, maybe I still could…” Then I remembered how old I am and decided just watching the kids skate would be a better idea.

    • allein ? March 24, 2018 / 11:13 am

My cousin’s birthday is also the 22nd!

    • Maia March 24, 2018 / 11:40 am

Discretion is the better part of valor, Patty! 😉

    • AJ March 24, 2018 / 6:39 pm

Let me add my niece’s birthday to the list for March 22. And yes staying off roller skates is a very good idea. I was never good on skates even as a teenager so I can only image how dangerous I’d be now.

    • debg March 24, 2018 / 8:42 pm

In a long-ago episode of Happy Days, Fonzi said, “If God wanted us to roller skate, he’d have put little wheels on our feet.” I still hold to that truth. Ice skating yes, roller skating no way.

    Beautiful kitty, Muppet!
My son and I will be joining one of the student marches today. Getting there by bus will be half the adventure in itself. Hopefully the weather just stays gray, and not rainy, snowy or sleety (hail) that we had yesterday. But we are prepared!
Have a great weekend, everybody! 🙂

    • Wuyizidi March 24, 2018 / 1:50 pm

It’s the first sunny day here in a week in SoCal, and marchers are everywhere since 9am.

They say this is the first major student movement in this country since the 60’s. This new generation is amazing. They are succeeding where we have failed them.

The future is going to be ok.

      • Faye March 24, 2018 / 6:38 pm

        ??

      • debg March 24, 2018 / 8:43 pm

I am so proud of those kids, and everybody else who’s marching today.

    • Murray C March 24, 2018 / 10:43 pm

Maia, I look forward to a report from the march you attended. I went to one, too, which I described elsewhere but now I forget in which post! Egad, I’m losing it.

      • Maia March 25, 2018 / 2:43 pm

It was a very large (well over 10,000, possibly 20,000-30,000) gathering in Seattle; I have looked online but can’t find a numbers estimate anywhere. I do know that it spread over 2 hours to march 2.5 miles from the first marchers leaving at the starting point to the last marchers arriving at the destination. There were many, many, many young people, lots of families, some “experienced” marchers like me, and a pleasant, determined atmosphere. The weather cooperated beautifully, with sun breaks and some cloud cover so that it was good weather for marching. I am proud of my son and his generation for their activism. There was a big push to register voters. Our governor and other adults spoke, but the young people set the tone and led the way. I hope this is not too political; apologies if it is. 🙂

Dishes, brief cooking, beginning exercise, then… ALL ART!

Two drawings to finish and one in my head ready to sketch!

Gorgeous kitty. Millie is lucky. I don’t travel. The most she is alone is a three hour stretch. We are together all the time. In fact she was so tight against me in bed this morning that I went back to sleep and overslept. No complaints from me.

  11. Duckie ? March 24, 2018 / 12:06 pm

Gorgeous kitty! Looks like one of the cats that is allowed to roam free outside where I live.
I am soaking in relaxation today, as next week will be the busiest week of the year. Holy Week always is for my family.
I got my first hummingbird at my feeder yesterday.
It was supposed to winter yesterday, but nothing happened. Everyone was rushing around to stock up on supplies, and it didn’t. I figured that, as long as I could walk, the weather wasn’t going to be too bad. But we are supposed to be getting a lot of rain next week (joy), so I’m raiding the library today and stocking up on tea.
Hubby’s job situation is going well. We just need to get through March and the first week of April, and then we can relax about finances. He still very much wants to get cats, and I plan on using that as incentive for him to consider relocating.
    Happy weekend to all.

I’m just hoping that the hacking cough I’ve been afflicted with for almost a week will have gone by next Thursday, when I’m going to London to see Oscar Wilde’s “Lady Windermere’s Fan”. And here’s the customary animal-related snippet from the theatrical newspaper “The Era”, dated 17th September 1876:

“EARLY on Wednesday an elephant named Rose, belonging to Messrs John Sanger and Sonsʼ Circus, evidently took the idea into her head that a walk would prove beneficial to her health, for she broke from the chains that secured her in her tent, and, taking a stroll for nearly half a mile, decided to add variety to the excursion by a little amateur burglary. Accordingly, putting her head to the door of a house, she soon forced an entrance, and made her way into the front parlour. The owner of the house, Mr John Pattison, hearing a strange noise, came down en deshabille, when to his surprise he beheld the huge animal. Fear instantly took possession of the man, who immediately ran upstairs again, leaped out of the first floor window, and rushed in his airy costume to the Circus, where he found one of the keepers searching for his lost charge. They returned, and Rose accompanied the keeper to her tent, after having regaled herself at the house with three loaves of bread, two jars of preserves, and all the sugar she could find. Before quitting the town (Carlisle) Mr H. Bertrand, Messrs Sangerʼs Manager, called upon Mr Pattison to see what recompense was required.”

From now on I will always refer to my sleep attire as an “airy costume”.

    • dubravkamcvmd March 24, 2018 / 2:50 pm

I’ve always thought English people have a great sense of humor.

    • debg March 24, 2018 / 8:45 pm

I thought it meant his birthday suit. (blushes)

      • fkaWaldenPond March 25, 2018 / 11:11 am

You guys! Now I am going to use ‘airy costume’ when referring to my sleep attire and while donning my birthday suit. It is too good of an expression.

  13. Rachel March 24, 2018 / 5:55 pm

How could you not take that gorgeous kitty with you? I mean, seriously. 🙂

  14. AJ March 24, 2018 / 6:37 pm

Ooooohhh such a beauty. Love kitty’s coloring. And yes how dare you leave without her. That’s just madness.

I enjoy hearing about one and all’s activities for the weekend and the upcoming week. Ran my butt off this morning doing errands and getting stuff for the new place. I truly thought we had everything we needed/wanted and then we went into Costco. That place will pull money out of your wallet faster than anything. And of course Home Depot/Lowe’s which is my husband’s toy store.

Finally getting a chance to take a breather before friends come over for dinner. Then I think more unpacking/organizing is on the agenda for this evening since tomorrow we heading out to a boat and outdoor show. I think I’m gonna go back to work to get a break, lol.

    Happy weekend everyone!!

That’s is one super adorable cat loaf. I might have packed that cutie up and taken her with me if faced with a similar situation.

    Some people’s kids.

    • Rachel March 25, 2018 / 7:54 pm

I remember my mom’s panic when we were at the Canyon when my brother was young enough to not care about things like imminent death at the edge. I’d have to send her a picture like this. 😀

I haz a sad, having just learned that one of my favourite novelists – Philip Kerr – died on Friday at the comparatively early age of 62. If you enjoy crime fiction I can warmly recommend his series of books, set in the 40s and 50s, featuring German detective Bernie Gunther.

    • dubravkamcvmd March 25, 2018 / 11:37 am

      I loved those books!
