Welcome to the weekend! For Caturday, we have a visit from our good friend Lily, from sender-inner Jan B. “After extensive empirical testing, Lily has decided that clean towels warm out of the dryer are the best platform for kitty yoga!”

It seems like only yesterday that Lily was a small kitten discovering the big world for the first time and now she’s all grown up and enlighten to boot!
Since the temperature here as gotten over the freezing mark this week I’ve started to walk my 4 to 6 km a day both to loose some weight and to get back in shape before the trip since there will be a lot of walking to be done.
We are leaving in a few minutes to have breakfast with our group of good friends and then catch Ready Player One at the cinema.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
Believe it or not, Lily will be 2 years old soon! ? Where has the time gone??? ?
Jan! I’m so happy that you posted – I was wondering where you were, didn’t know if I’d just missed seeing a post or if you were taking a break. I was concerned, I admit.
Lily is hilarious. So is Mike.
Seriously? Two years?
She obviously has a tough life. Luckily she’s able to find the perfect towel shade that shows off her beautiful coat.
Wow. Gorgeous. These photographs are like paintings of odalisques.
Thanks! Taken with just a cell phone, but there was a little sun coming through the window, so they came out ok. And of course having a great subject never hurts!
Hello Caturday morning friends! I seldom comment but am always here enjoying the posts and the the wide variety of adventures you all enjoy! I am venturing into finding a new anipal. My precious sweet Honey (who actually got to be on Cuteropolis Christmas Eve! The kitty looking at the small Christmas tree) left this life in January. I have just made my second trip to our local amazing rescue place. I have a long weekend off work in 3 weeks and am hoping to be able to welcome my new little buddy at that time so I can be home for adjustment time. Made acquaintance with a couple last night, plan to stop in another couple of times to see if the chemistry is there. Wish me lots of knowing for sure when I meet The One!
I’m sorry about Honey. It’s good that you feel up to a new animal companion. I’m sure you’ll find somebody wonderful.
Sorry about Honey, she was such a sweet looking kitty. And yeah you for being ready to bring another little friend into your home. Can’t wait to see pics of your new anipal.
Wishing you best of luck in finding a new anipal. ? Been in that situation many times myself.
Thank you all for kind words & wishes!! I absolutely will keep you informed. Mommies always love to show pics of the new baby!!
Good to hear from you, Nancy! So sad to learn of your loss, but happy to hear that you’re about to welcome a new cutie into your life. I hope you find a special friend!
You all will be among the first to know!!!
I’m sorry about Honey. What a lovely little picture with the tree. Best of luck with finding your new furbaby.
Hi Nancy, I am very sorry to read about Honey’s passing, it is very tough to go through. Don’t worry, some puddish will choose you soon!
Jan, it is so good to see Lily; it has been some time!
I am off to Niagara on the Lake for Easter, having brunch at the Pillar and Post. Gigi, I with you on those long walks; I need to walk off all the food I am about to consume! :S
Happy Easter, Passover, rebirth all!
ditto what everyone else said. Departed animal family members will forever be curled up on the couch cushions of our hearts. <3
Very sweet expression/word picture! Thank you for that!
That really is a comforting thought/image.
So sorry about Honey. 🙁
I was at the shelter within a week after losing Zelda’s predecessor suddenly. The apartment was much too empty especially as it was entirely unexpected. What I did, and will undoubtedly do in the future, is to go around the shelter and greet all the cats and see who says, “Hey, there you are! Where have you BEEN? Take me home now, human!” Cats know their people when they meet them. Especially floofy opinionated torties – or any torties, really. 🙂
I love the inside-out ear in the first pic!
Well, I went to London on Thursday, fooled by the blazing York sunshine into thinking that spring had arrived, only to find rain and chilly winds in the capital. A recorded voice on the Tube asked travellers not to shake their wet umbrellas inside the stations, which I’d never heard before… “Lady Windermere’s Fan” was an enjoyable but uneven production with Jennifer Saunders as a scene-stealing dowager Duchess (an early version of Lady Bracknell). After the matinee I killed a couple of hours by strolling round Oscar Wilde’s old haunts in Chelsea, only to take a heavy fall on the slippery pavement outside the Royal Chelsea Hospital. A couple of nice people picked me up and escorted me to the nearest bench, but fortunately my clothes suffered more than my person! I’m not familiar with Theatreland, so it was interesting to see the theatres I’ve read about so often in “The Era”.
I love that usage of “person.” The only other place I’ve seen it is in P.G. Wodehouse. I don’t remember what book it was in and i probably have some of the details wrong. Bertie says that a friend’s cat follows him around when he visits because on one occasion he had given the cat some food. He says that the cat believes he has herring ‘secreted somewhere about his person”.
I’ve seen it in books a lot. I think it’s a Brittish thing.
Don’t you just hate weather that changes from place to place? You go out thinking your dressed appropriately and when you get where you’re going and well, I wasn’t expecting rain, or heat, or etc. And ooof, taking that downward journey to your person, not fun at all. Good to hear there were some people to help you up. In this day and age, I’m sorry to say, I tend to expect the worst from people in public.
The funny thing was that just before I fell I was thinking “If only I’d worn my warm cashmere coat instead of this thin cotton one!”
*goes sprawling on filthy pavement*
“Well, at least I’m wearing a cheap cotton coat instead of an expensive ‘dry-clean only’ one!”
That is definitely finding the silver lining in the clouds, Alice! I’m glad you are okay!
The incident happened just round the corner from Oscar Wilde’s house in Tite Street. When I walked round there I told myself that losing your dignity for a couple of minutes and getting your clothes dirty was so much better than going to prison for two years and having all your worldly goods auctioned off for a fraction of their true value – and some of the vultures who went to the auction just wandered round stealing small items. Whenever I walk past that house, now divided into flats, I wonder if the residents ever think of the Wilde family. In his wonderful book “Son of Oscar Wilde” Vyvyan Holland describes an incident that took place in the nursery – Oscar noticed that the lids of the churns on a toy milk cart could be removed, so he filled them with milk, went down on his hands and knees (in his immaculate clothes) and joined his two sons in racing the cart round the room, slopping milk everywhere. The maid was not amused, and the milk cart ended up being sold as part of a job lot of toys.
Alice, I’m so glad you weren’t hurt in your fall. That aside, your day sounds heavenly. I haven’t been to England since 2012, and on that trip didn’t get to London or York (though Oxford was positively delightful). Museums and cathedrals are much more my style than theatre, and there are plenty of both in England!
There are so many cathedrals even I haven’t got round to seeing all of them. I live within easy travelling distance of Durham, and every summer I promise myself a day out to visit the cathedral there…perhaps this year!
It’s absolutely spectacular. I also know York Minster, and since I’m currently watching Jonathan Strange & Mr Norell on Netflix, I got to see it come to life!
That’s one of my favourite books!
Good morning everyone. Lovely sunny morning here but a promise of afternoon rain just as I have to head to my sister’s place for our family Easter celebration. Lovely to have a long weekend – sometimes a regular weekend is just not enough time to accomplish everything I want to do. Made a lovely batch of homemade cold process soap yesterday: castile soap (100% olive oil as the base, brined in sea water) with shredded loofah flakes to give it a wee bit of exfoliation, and a delicate, fresh baby’s breath fragrance. Made my house smell nice. Soap making is fun and relaxing – a good distraction from the woes on the news and some family challenges here at home. I hope everyone is well. Merlin had a bit of a restless night for some reason – we were up at 4 am to fluff our feathers a bit before settling back down. Hope it means he’ll be tired today and have a nap while I’m away for Easter dinner.
THAT is an Olympic-level yawn, Lily!
So adorbs!! Lily has grown up to be an absolute beauty. And of course, fresh dried laundry is the only place to stretch out and take a nap.
Foggy and cool start to the morning but should warm up later. Weather did this yesterday too and like Alice, I went out dressed for one type of weather and ended up being too warm as the day actually got pretty hot. Luckily I had a tank top under my flannel shirt so I was able to shed a layer. Had yesterday off for a three day weekend and spent it shopping in Goodwill. Didn’t find anything for me but found plenty of cute little outfits for a friend’s granddaughter. I just love shopping for baby clothes, to me everything is all SO CUTE!!!!!!
Had hockey last night which we won, it’s turning out to be a nail biter of a season as we head into playoff time. All of the top 5 teams as sooo close in the standings that every game really really counts. One bad game could take us out of the post-season. Have an away game today so fingers crossed we win and our rival loses because we’re both tied for 2nd place.
Not much planned for the rest of the weekend. Still unpacking, and decorating the new place. Hubby has about a dozen boxes left to go through in the garage. Better him than me, lol. And I have no clue what we’ll be doing tomorrow, maybe going over to a friend’s house, probably decide when we get up.
Oh and some good news, my niece married her partner of 12 years this week! Finally, some good news to come out of the drama of the last three months. Not sure if I mentioned what was going on here but short version is her partner had a major stroke last fall, his oh-so concerned son (all of 25 yrs old and knows what’s best for everyone) took guardianship of his dad and 9 yr old half brother so my niece has been battling to get custody back ever since. Lots of ups and downs but now I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully it’s not the train.
Happy weekend, Happy Easter, and Good Passover everyone!
Yay, it’s my baby!
The inside-out ear in the first pic is of course the advanced version of downward-facing cat… ???
Lily! oh how nice to see pictures of Lily again. Such a beauty queen.
It’s been an emotionally stressful few weeks with a slight easement this weekend (I hope). I have tons to do: grading, cleaning, lesson plans, powerpoint for a brief talk, so what am I doing first? I’m dawdling and am starting the toe of a second sock for a good friend who is freezing in Buffalo. Nothings beats homemade socks for keeping the tootsies warm! But I have to treat myself to get the boring stuff done. One hour of knitting, one hour of grading, one hour of gardening, another hour of some other task I *must* do. 🙂
Wherever you are I hope you are having a wonderful day!
Sounds like an excellent strategy, Tara!
Good morning, all. I’ve been off all week. It’s been nice. Then I found out the other day that 18 people in my building were laid off. I don’t know who all of them are, but I know at least six, and one was in my little department of six. What that means for my workload, I don’t know. I’m told I still have a job. I’m thinking I should get my resume up-to-date. I might start bringing home some of the personal crap I’ve collected over the years; if it comes to that, I’ll have less to pack up. Feeling pessimistic.
On a lighter note, I learned last night that cute bookstore guy has a cat named Ernie. I asked if there’s a Bert, and he said “there was.” I don’t know if he chose the names himself, but the fact that he has pets and they were named after Sesame Street characters makes me smile.
Allein, I think you’re smart to update your resume–layoffs are never a good sign, as I learned the hard way.
I’m pretty sure the Sesame Street characters were named after the singing men in “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The timing works.
It’s scary. I have no idea where to start if I need to look for another job. I sorta fell into the one I have and it’s not really a position I would have looked at when I was starting out. Not sure if I’d want to look for similar jobs or try to get into something else. Never did figure out what I want to be when I grow up. (I worked in publishing for a while, and I liked proofreading and that sort of thing, but I don’t know if I can live on that kind of salary, being that I’d be starting at the bottom if I tried to get back into it.)
According to the Muppet Wiki, the names are just a coincidence.
http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Are_Bert_and_Ernie_named_after_characters_from_It%27s_a_Wonderful_Life%3F
I refuse to believe in coincidence!
Even though you burst my bubble, I’m more than happy to act as a sounding board for job changes.
Yes, it’s scary to face a possible layoff, but it can also be empowering. At least it was for me, and I was really lucky to stumble into my current job.
Sorry to burst your bubble. 🙂
They laid off a lot of store employees last month. Basically got rid of almost all full-time non-manager positions. This time apparently it was 75 people, I assume mostly in the corporate office. I guess I’ll see on Monday how many “this address is no longer valid” I get on my report distributions.
Happy weekend, all.
Crazy bad week. Almost over. Bad reaction to a new prescription. Took myself off it before I did anything stupid.
Blessed Easter, Passover, season of rebirth to everyone.
Jan, Lily is a source of peace for me.
Ugh, feel better, Duckie! Hope you get your meds sorted out quickly.
good for you for recognizing you needed to stop the meds, Duckie! Warm hugs and hopes for a better week next week. We are in your corner! Smiles, Maia
What Maia said.
Jan, we’ve missed you and Lily around here! So good to see your gorgeous girl, and to know she’s being properly spoiled.
I’ve got to spend some time working today (editing articles) when I want to warp up my 15″ loom with handspun yarn. Waaaaahhhhh. Like Tara, I’ll spend some time on the work, then give myself some time to play with yarn. And I’ve got some fun cooking plans tonight and tomorrow: tadka dal for dinner tonight, then vegan baked donuts tomorrow. My aquafaba kick is still going strong, and it’s still fascinating.
Happy Passover, Easter, spring renewal to everybody celebrating.
Oh Lily! Please let us join your yoga class. You would be the best instructor and we would give you lots of ear scritchies and belly rubs whenever you wanted.
Spent some time outside playing in my gardens, picking up branches on this sunny day. Temp actually got above 50 F (10 C)!
Now I want to try yoga on towels fresh out of the dryer. Lily is beautiful, and much more flexible than I am!
Coloring Easter eggs with my son this morning– He is 19 and headed for Uni this fall. I think he and I are both clinging to traditions right now. Brunch with the family tomorrow.
This is the start of my favorite season, with birds singing and flowers starting to bloom and the trees leafing out. A tiny bit warmer would be nice, but that is promised to happen soon.
as have so many others, I wish you a wonderful weekend of Passover, Easter, rebirth and rejuvenation.
My brother and I are in our 40s and my parents still hide eggs. They have money in them. The same number in each of two rooms and we each get a room to search. Gotta keep it equal. 😉
So much fun reading everyone’s posts – Duckie – sorry about your medicine scare – no fun there. Lily is funny and delightful – so glad Jan is back.
I’ve been in the garden (gorgeous weather in the Greater Philadelphia area today) for about 3 1/2 hours while some corned beef and cabbage is cooking in the slow cooker. We don’t eat a lot of meat but sometimes I like to make something like CB&C. We’re going to a House Concert to see a friend who is a wonderful guitar player – I’ll get to see lots of friends – haven’t seen too many people of late – been getting stuff done for a little craft fair. See you all tomorrow!
