Wow, the three “‘D’s in one look – disapproval, disappointment, and disdain – from this duo. I’d be worried about not only the drapes but my shoes, my bed, basically anything within their reach. But still sooo beautiful that I’d gladly stay home with them instead going out.
I’m probably going to get that look later as I’m dogsitting my friend’s two cocker spaniels. Every time I leave those big brown puppy dog eyes just get me right in the gut. Hopefully the picture I post comes through, sorry for the sideways view, my computer doesn’t like to cooperate. Say hello to Amie on the left and Max.
I’m still trying to get used to having animals in the house again, It’s a little weird being followed everywhere I go. I walk down the hall and click, click, click, here come my two shadows, lol. But they’re good dogs and mostly well behaved.
Taking a quick break from cleaning the house before running some errands today. Hubby had to work then is going to the movies with a friend so I have a day all to myself. Goodwill and window shopping here I come!!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Grey and damp here in sw Pennsylvania. Watched the Royal Wedding at breakfast.
Beautiful, and the weather there is perfect. One last radiation treatment to come on Monday,
then we will, I hope, go out for a celebratory luch somewhere nice. I envision crabcakes
and asparagus with Parmesano Romano. And lemonade. No alcohol allowed with my meds.
Is ok. Feeling about 75% human currently. Not bad. Hope everyone has a good weekend, and
that family and friends are in decent shape. Esp. the BIL, poor man.
Sending healthy vibes to you, Phred’s Mom. I’m glad you are on the mend. 75% human is more than some people ever achieve (and I *don’t* mean Cutetropolitans). Here’s to 100% soon!
Best wishes to you, Phred’s Mom – or today I should say “Mum”.
Adorable kitties and pups – kitty on the left looks like s/he’s popping out of a dark brown muff!
Was up early to see the Royals get hitched – and afterwards fell asleep – so not a morning person.
It’s so good to hear your news. Kitties and I send purrs and hugs as you reach the end of your treatment.
We’re rooting for you, Phred’s Mom! Stay strong!
Ditto what everyone else said, Phred’s mom! Best wishes to you!
I raise a champagne flute of sparkling grape juice to you and hope for your continued health and recovery.
Thanks, everyone.
Just sold cookies at a craft show yesterday…was baking for 2 days straight. They were feeling a little neglected, I think.
By the way…lots of leftovers…anyone?
This will be short, as I’m crazy-busy.
BIL has stage four pancreatic cancer. Untreatable. Palliative care only. Doctors not giving a “how much time left” estimate. Hubby and I are making plans to help family, if needed. Four little school age girls.
Muppet, your two fur babies are heartwarming.
Dreamed about humming birds all night. Four of them, the colours of those foil wrapped chocolate Easter eggs, accompanied me through all sorts of dreams. Rather nice.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and for we Canadians, a long weekend.
That is such awful news, Duckie. There really are no words that will help, but if there were, I would write them here. Sending very best wishes to you and yours.
Oh, Duckie, that’s awful – you and his whole family must be so devastated! I am sorry for your heartache and your BIL’s suffering.
So sorry, Duckie. Keeping you and your family in my heart.
I met my mom in my dreams last night (she died in 2000). She was beautiful and looked so happy. We got a chance to hug but not to talk.
And my student who went directly from my English test to the hospital last week starts chemo on Monday. For everyone who is dealing with the C word right now, positive vibes and mojo. Especially Duckie’s family!!
Four school age girls is really tough.
I am so sorry, Duckie. Be kind to yourself as you try to take care of others. Hugs, maia
I’m so sorry about the news Duckie and with 4 girls too, that’s rough. Hugs to you and your family.
So sorry for your family but I am thankful that BIL has supportive family.
You are stronger than you can possibly believe right now.
Our hearts are full for you and BIL and his family. So
difficult for all.
I had a look at the 1911 census earlier today and found out who was living at my house then – Thomas William Simpson, a 26-year-old railway clerk, his wife Edith (25), and their daughter Muriel, who was less than one month old. The house next door was home to a couple with seven kids…and there’s only two bedrooms!
That’s kind of fun to know. Hey, people live the way that they have to. Couple hundred years ago, they’d have one bedroom/kitchen/living room/etc.
I’m so sorry to hear that, Duckie. I hope he can be comfortable at least.
Glad you’re doing well, Phred’s Mom. Enjoy your celebration.
AJ those pups are adorbs.
No word on Stripes. Have to take my car for an oil change and get my tire looked at. I seem to have a slow leak in one and I don’t want to risk it turning into a sudden fast leak in the next few weeks. And the oil changes are covered under a maintenance plan so it won’t cost me anything out of pocket. They mentioned other stuff last time I was there that would be about due next time but I’m going to tell them I don’t want to spend any more money on it than absolutely necessary since I may very well be giving it back in a few weeks. Was going to see about test driving a new Elantra while I’m there but I don’t really want to do that in the rain…I have next Thursday and Friday off so that gives me three days I can go car shopping and make some decisions. My friend’s dad works for the local Dodge/Suburu dealer and he said if I was looking at Suburu to see him. Don’t know how much he can really do for me but I guess it’s worth checking out. I hate car shopping and I am not a negotiator nor do I really know if I’m getting a good deal or not.
Other than that, errands and chores and catching up on podcasts.
For what it’s worth, Allein, I have loved two Subarus, both Foresters. My first one was used, an off-lease one, and I think I had it for 10 years or so.
The guy at the bookstore (who I have not seen in a few weeks, grr) has an Impreza which is probably 4-5 years old. That’s what I would get if I go with Suburu. If I can catch him one of these days I want to ask him his opinion. One issue with the Suburu dealer here is it’s on a kind of weird corner right by the highway and it might be a pain to get in and out of for service. A minor consideration, I know, but Hyundai’s location is so easy in that respect. Speaking of which, they didn’t find anything wrong with my tire, so I dunno. Maybe just the weather. At least it didn’t cost me anything. While I was waiting, there was a dark gray Elantra GT just outside the window and I kinda like the way it looks (my last lease was a silver GT and I liked it but I didn’t love the color, and it had three large key scratches on the door that they ignored because I leased a new car, which I would have had to get fixed if I had kept it). We shall see. The GT apparently doesn’t come in the darker blue that I currently have but I do quite like the gray. The rain slowed to a drizzle but I didn’t feel like test driving by the time I was done with the service. Stopped at the grocery store and just got home. Might take a nap.
Naps are never inapproppriate.
My boss would beg to differ.
Practically everybody on Colorado’s Front Range drives a Subaru (or a Mini Cooper). Apparently Subs handle all kinds of weather beautifully and last forever if they’re maintained.
These days, there’s a lot less haggling involved in car shopping, even for used vehicles. Spend some time researching online before you go, and you might feel more confident in your choices. You can also gather info from a dealership, then walk away to do more research.
My dad said the dealer here doesn’t really negotiate on price, it’s just what it is minus whatever incentives they get from Hyundai. He said I might do better at a bigger dealer, which is about 45 minutes away. I don’t want to pay more than I need to but I also don’t want all the stress of figuring it out. Either way, next weekend is Memorial Day (and also the end of the month) and I’m off Thursday and Friday so hopefully whatever sales they have going for Memorial Day will be in effect.
I hope any news on Stripes is good, Allein!
He didn’t go to the vet but his nose seems to have stopped bleeding. My mom just sent me a picture of the lump under the bedspread that is Stripes.
Looks good there.
Looks like a lizard!
?
As always, the open thread here helps me greatly–I’m so thankful for all of you! Sending good wishes, congrats, nose scritchies, condolences, and WOWs to all. Hoomins can decide if they really want nose scritchies; I’m sure all these lovely kitties and puppers will accept them!
I am currently patting myself on the back for buying a Chromebook back in January. Yes, I have a desktop and an iPad. But I learned the hard way that the iPad can’t handle any intensive freelance work, and when Windows 10 updates, it can shut down my desktop for hours. This morning was one such day! Windows informed me at 8:30 that it needed to update; it didn’t finish until after 10:30. At 11:00, the computer is waking up from its restart. Meanwhile, I pulled out my Chromebook and got half of an article edited.
Still nothing definitive on my move, but things are finally starting to get settled. It’s a relief, when you’ve got a wide-open field of possibilities, to begin narrowing things down.
I’ll spend this rainy weekend editing, choosing beautiful pictures for the magazine, cleaning, and cooking. In other words, the usual! And, since I’m taking the day off next Friday and we’re closed for Memorial Day, I’m looking forward to 4 whole days off–the first I’ve had since January.
Hugs to you all.
I just purchased a Chromebook a few weeks ago and I’m still adjusting to the smaller screen and minor quirks. All in all, I think it was a smart purchase.
Hugs to everyone dealing with their own illness or those of relatives. Such struggle and heartache.
I renewed contact with a friend and coworker today. I overcame my agoraphobic tendencies and met her and her two daughters in a Starbucks. We had not seen each other for over a year. Happy to say we talked for over an hour as if we had not been apart. She’s only one of three people on the Earth who know my full story. I was feeling disconnected from other humans. I feel much better now. She just moved right near me so we will be able to spend time together often.
I was up at 6:30 am for The Wedding. Visited. Now art art art. Also recommitted to losing the next 5, 10, 15 pounds. Passed all my medical tests. Only the dreaded two year colonoscopy in July.
Ps. I will be getting the new Shingles shot. Two inoculations four months apart. My mother’s life was ruined by Shingles. If you have had Chicken Pox do your research and get inoculated. If you only had the old shot get the new one as well. 90% effective vs 70% for old shot. I have to pay $175 per shot. IMHO it is worth it.
I concur, Faye! I had a mild case of shingles (thank heavens) but I wish I had never had to go through it. If there’s a chance to get a vaccine, do it! You will save yourself a lot of pain and lost productivity due to the accompanying flu-like symptoms (I lay on the couch, unable to do anything for three full weeks)
N. Fritz: check with doctor. It can come back. You were lucky and it was still three weeks. Yikes!
Thanks for the reminder, Faye and N. Fritz! My grandparents all had shingles, and I keep thinking “I’m too young” to need the vaccine. Except that I’m not.
My mom’s life was messed up from shingles, too, and as soon as
my doctors say it’s ok for me, I plan to get the new shots. Shingles
is major, no joke.
I was awake for a variety of reasons early this AM, so watched the Royal Wedding live at 4 AM my time. I found it to be a very moving and inspiring experience.
THEN I went back to bed. 🙂
Today is more packing and sorting as I prepare to move, but I am feeling okay about it. And I also need to brush the cat more, because we had a heat wave that triggered my kitty to start losing half her body weight in fur. I am always amazed at how much hair can come off a short-haired cat and she can still be fuzzy and shedding. Don’t know how owners of long-haired cats and dogs manage it. (any hints, Muppet? The kitties are gorgeous!)
Wishing everyone in the Cutetropolis community hope, love, strength, and peace this weekend.
Heh, I don’t know how Stars isn’t bald at this point. She sheds sooo much. There are often tufts of loose fur just sitting on top of her back.
Kitty has random hair strands hovering around her, like little furry satellites. I’m definitely gonna need a vacuum cleaner to take to my new place!
I am picturing a kinetic version of a photo of your cat with orbiting hairs creating a subtle haze around her that varies in color as she moves about in different degrees of light.
Rabbits are worse, I think – I have fur-lined ceiling fans – hairs just stand out straight along the blades.
Get a Birman…there’s something about their coats that don’t mat. Just pet the softest coat on any cat and brush gently when they’re in the mood to put up with it.
I spent the weekend doing another yard sale. The original plan was to have it at my other daughter’s house, because I live on a busy street with no parking. They either have to park in my driveway or a block away on a side street and walk up. Turns out my SIL forgot his brother was coming to town, so they couldn’t do a yard sale. My husband had dragged a lot of stuff from his daughter’s house (she lives in the boonies), and we had no place to store it, so we put it in the yard and put up a sign.
We made about $250 over the last 2 days, and I got half way through a name doily my SIL wanted me to make for her granddaughter. I have Allis, just need the on, and the border.
I did promise to help the daughter with her garage sale which was postponed until next weekend. Then, I will be sick of yard sales for this year.
Just heard: docs give BIL two months.
We send him and his as much love as possible.
I have heard that re Pancreatic Cancer. 8 weeks. So shocking Duckie. Bleak as the Dark Ages and so hurtful for all concerned.
Only love counts now. ❤️
Oh, no. I’m so sorry for you, him and his family.
I just had a quick look at the last weekend open tread while waiting at the airport for my plane home and was sorry to see the news about your brother in law.
That’s devastating news, Duckie, I am so sorry for all involved.
Hugs to you, Duckie.
Fun Fact:The royal wedding today is being held on Makcom X’s birthday!Coincidence or Homage?
I bring this up because it happens to be my birthday too.Wonderful time of the year for a birthday! The weather is always perfect and the date is Dr. Sheldon Cooper approved in being a prime number!
Happy birthday, Murkle46! Hope you were able to celebrate despite all the hoopla surrounding the Royals! Lol!
Thanks!
Happy Birthday, Murkle 46!
Happy Birthday Murkle! 🙂
Happy Birthday!
