Toxic Mills, NJ — City planners today reached a settlement with Lucretia Webb, whose duck pond was paved over as part of a new housing subdivision. According to the terms of the settlement, Ms. Webb has been assured that traffic will be rerouted around her property.
I love it when the underduck wins, Sharon H.
Be safe, little hen.
🙂 (That’s what I thought.)
I live near the most badly-maintained road I’ve ever seen in England – the potholes are inches deep and the patches have patches. A few days ago I walked along it immediately after a rainstorm, and discovered that although it’s just a dead end for humans (hence the neglect) it’s a multi-pool municipal swimming baths for sparrows. Every puddle contained two or three sparrows splashing about like mad.
That’s so lovely! Watching the birds splash and bathe in the bird bath in my mother’s back yard has been a pleasure over the years.
Me too and what always fascinates me is when birds ‘dust bathe!’ I walk by a spot on occasion where I have seen them dust-bathe before and you can see little bowl like indentations in the sand/earth where they were. Always makes me smile. 🙂
Sometimes minimalism just goes too far. 🙂
Pave paradise, put up a parking lot…
I’m reminded of a 99% Invisible podcast episode called “Holdout” about a woman in Seattle who refused to sell her house while they built all around her.

Whoa, that’s determination for you. But not sure if it’s really a win given her new surroundings. Certainly a moral victory.
Dear little hen duck – any port in a storm, I suppose, but she’s not that visible and I fear for her.
The Puddle Of Reduced Circumstances.
Never give up Duck.
Somehow, Faye, from things you’ve told us, you can really relate to this little creature!?
Yup.
Thank you.
Never ever, Duckie.
Also reminded of the duck walking through fresh cement with the caption “Because F*** You, that’s why!”
We have a few new cement pavers and we watched so diligently as they were drying because we live in between two schools and were nervous that kids would take sticks and write their names (wreaks havoc when you shovel snow, all those rough edges) but what ended up happening is a dog ran through and left paw prints. I’m rather happy about that.
Oh, and Happy Birthday to those of you with birthdays over the week end – I’m having some computer issues and not online so much – except to Apple Support.
This really breaks my heart.
I had to honk at a morning dove sleeping in a pothole during my driving test many moons ago. It proceeded to walk to the side of the road.
LOL, I got a similar response from some crows recently. They were having their breakfast in the middle of the road and in NO mood to move.
That really makes me nervous for the duck.
