And finally: Sproing, Sproing, Sproing

Yet another deer in the wrong place, but this one makes a much more elegant escape (via Jan B.)

I love the idea of herding deer with a train. I choose to assume the driver is a border collie.

So that was the deer they were talking about on the news last night…I didn’t stay up to watch it.

Feel good moment from yesterday: As I was leaving work, turning right onto the highway, a big family of tiny ducks (seriously, what I assume was Mama wasn’t much bigger than the babies) started crossing the highway from the other side. They even waited for the green light. I looked in my rearview mirror, worried they wouldn’t make it across before the light changed, and saw a guy waiting for the light in the other direction get out of his truck to make sure other people saw them. They made it across and all was well.

Metro Deer… NYC has subway rats about that size.

I love the subway, but I have to admit Metro Deer is way cuter than Pizza Rat.

M&M Squirrel is cuter than Pizza Rat.

Not for nothin’, but Pizza Rat is cuteness challenged. Fuggettaboutit.

To me it looks like the baby deer started following the biker and then realized “Hey! That’s not mama!”

    • nano's_mom June 13, 2018 / 9:50 am

That was my thought, too. “Wait, you’re not my mom!”

“What are those spinny round things?”

I’m lucky enough to be able to watch sproing-ing baby deer in person. In fact, we had a doe give birth to a fawn right in our front landscaping yesterday! I didn’t get to see it but my hubby took pictures. I’ll send them to Mike to see if he can post them here in the comments.

Here are the pictures! (These are also going into a post at some point because they’re too good not to share)

Haha! Thanks, Mike. I was wondering if you’d be able to work your storytelling magic on the one with the “guardian snailio.” I love how mama deer left her little one there between the rhodies and the ceramic snail while she went off to eat.

Incidentally, I’ve named the baby “Maple” after the company we use for our landscaping maintenance (Maple Leaf Landscaping). 😀

Ahhhh! How wonderful is that Soccersue!! And the ‘gaurdian snailio’ makes it even that much more special. Mom, was all to snailio– ‘Here, watch her, this birthing business works up an appetite , brb.

I was picturing baby saying to snail, “So… are you my big brother?”

oh my goodness i am melted.

I saw a baby deer at the park today but he moved away from the fence when I got too close and my phone through a chain-link fence from several yards away does not make for good pictures.

        Snail for scale? ?

I’m sorta jealous of all the cute wild animals you see in your yards. Being in the middle of the city, the only thing we get are coyotes. But we did have a domestic chicken and duck roaming our neighborhood a few weeks back. That had everyone scratching their heads on where they came from.
