For a lost kitten, one week makes all the difference
Reader Tara O. just made my week with a submission that includes a beautiful picture, a speakers-way-up video, and a day by day account of a rescue that took this kitten off the streets and into a forever home. Take it away, Tara!
Saturday afternoon Kitty cries at me in the garden from atop a wall, eyes shut with gunk. He can’t see to get down. Guess what? Now I have kitty.
Sunday Kitty sleeps in a canvas bag hung around my neck all day. Seems better by evening. I start calling him Wombat Kitty because I love Wombats and they are marsupials and kitty likes sleeping in a pouch.
Monday I send out the pitiful plea email to everyone I know – won’t someone take him? (Because I already have three cats and they. were. not. having. it.)
Tuesday evening Wombat Kitty’s health goes way backwards and I take him to the 24/hr emergency. Was also told he was depressed.
Wednesday I sneak him into work. Kept him in a pouch around my neck and then he slept in a box with a towel. At the end of the work day I get an email from co-worker who’d been on vacation, “Is Wombat Kitty still available? I’ll take him!”
I don’t know if it was a day not being alone, or if it was knowing he had the promise of a Mommy, but we got home and Wombat Kitty snarffed down a whole bowl of wetted kitten food and started bouncing around the place like a little kitty should.
Thursday he is too frisky to sneak into work! Yay! So kind neighbor kitty-sits for him all day.
Friday he will go with me to work (with permission this time) and will be handed over to his new Furrever Mommy. All co-workers are relieved. I will miss the little guy, but I am so happy he will go somewhere wonderful. He is going to be an awesome kitty.
And that’s not even the best part! Crank your speakers up to hear Wombat Kitty’s powerful, prodigious purring! Gentleman, start your engine!
This story made my day! Pouch sleeper and he’s even wombat-colored!
So glad he found a furrever home so quickly.
That’s a beautiful, elegant kitten. Sounds like a geiger counter.
Awww, love this story but guess my allergies were acting up reading it with all the sniffling and watery eyes.
Lucky wombat kitty to be found by a kitty lover. THAT is a prodigious purr, especially from such a small kitty. Sounds like my lawn mower!!
My little foundling, a few years ago, was only a couple of weeks old and slept for a month around my neck, covered by my hair – must have felt a little like momcat’s fur, I guess. I never thought of a pouch, maybe with something furry inside, it would have been a lot easier than wearing a cat scarf around my neck…. 😀
I don’t know about that. Cat scarf seems pretty cool (actually, probably quite warm) to me!
Strays is how I ended up with 5 cats, except that my latest foundling Boo was not an adorable little wombat kitten but a big adult male tomcat who turned out to be the cuddliest friendliest cat I’ve ever had.
Aw, what a wonderful story–and FANTASTIC purring!!
I’m so glad wombat kitty found you to keep him safe and find him a home of his own. So many strays out there….it’s good to hear a happy ending!
Yay! Win. Win. Win.
That is some Class A purring! ? So glad a kitty lover found him! ( I would never be able to sneak a kitty into work!)
Scanning the story really quickly first on my phone, I caught the words for days of the week at beginning of each paragraph and the phrase “I don’t know”, so I read the entire story as lyrics to The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love”.
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday I’m in love [with Wombat Kitty].
Makes sense.
Even having listened to music most of the way home from work, I still have this song stuck in my head. (This is not a complaint.)
This works. Cool!
Awww. What a great story! And, what a motor on that kitty!!
What a little hunk! Thank you Tara. 🙂 🙂
Tara, you’re an angel. I’m sO happy for Wombat Kitty! He’s a superstar, and so are you.
Good job, Tara! That little kitten broke the Purr-ometer, I do believe – and cute little pink toe-beans.
Oh I just saw that this was posted! Yay! Thank you NTMTOM! And thank you all for your kind comments!
This afternoon, Wombat Kitty was handed over to his new mommy after a LOT of people came and cuddled with him. He had a great send off to his new life with lots of toys and treats. I am so relieved he was adopted and I think he is going to be a magnificent cat.
Happy end of the week everyone!
Yay! Thanks for sharing. I love your story.
Wonderful story. God bless you. Hopefully, there will be a day when every kitty has a home. But until then, big-hearted people like you will help get us there, one kitty at a time.
I think in his mind he’s already magnificent. Check out that cattitude!
And those feet! He’s not going to fit into that sack for very long.
