NBC Peacock: The Early Years

Peacock chick is a Facebook star!

Before blooming into living color, the NBC Peacock was just a humble chick in living sepia. Actually, his name is Drew Peacock, and he’s the pride of the Hairy Farmpit Girls, who raise goats and sell handmade goat milk soaps around Georgia. In addition to becoming a Facebook star, Drew is also a hit at the farmer’s markets where the Farmpit Girls sell their wares. (Thanks to Janice P. for steering me to this one!)

OMG!!! Trying to strut and display, with that stumpy brown bedraggled collection of feathers on his butt! Go, Drew, Go! His trying is so sweet it brought tears to my eyes.

Yes! That pre-adolescent strut with his pre-decked tail feathers! SO dear.

So adorable! I’ve never seen a baby peacock (peachick?) before. I’ve seen some yoots, but not a little bittle like this one.

A hwat, did you say “yutes”?

      • Ricky's Mom July 5, 2018 / 5:14 pm

Oh, good, it’s not just me …

        • dubravkamcvmd July 5, 2018 / 5:48 pm

I suspected you were referring to a NYC neighborhood pronunciation of youths!

    He’s so proud of himself!

    Love their farmpit name.

    • Ricky's Mom July 5, 2018 / 5:16 pm

It’s a great name! I wish they had a real website, and not just a Facebook page. I really can’t be doing with Fb any more.

I deleted my Facebook account after Cambridge Analytica. Zuckerberg and Sandberg’s attitude toward the whole thing was just revolting.

        • Ricky's Mom July 5, 2018 / 6:38 pm

Deleted mine in the run-up to the 2016 election. I couldn’t stand the sheer stupidity and hatefulness any more.

Deleting the account will not stop FB from tracking you. From https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/mar/31/facebook-tracks-all-visitors-breaching-eu-law-report:

“Facebook tracks the web browsing of everyone who visits a page on its site even if the user does not have an account or has explicitly opted out of tracking…”

So instead of deleting FB, I installed FB Container for my browser. This way 1) FB can’t keep track of everything else I’m doing with the browser, 2) no other sites can access the FB data.

Good to know, thanks! Although Safari has DNT, so I may be okay.

They’ve been pretty clear they feel no obligations toward people who aren’t users and won’t, eg, stop non-users from getting tagged in photos, etc. You actually have worse privacy as a non-user than with an account you never use that has the privacy settings locked down.

They have a website, but it looks unfinished. There’s a lot of dummy text (“lorem ipsum”) where real words should be.

“Are you looking at my bum?”

    • Wuyizidi July 5, 2018 / 7:04 pm

      “What, well why not?!”

    • debg July 5, 2018 / 7:56 pm

It’s such a sweet bum, with the baby down peeking out under the true feathers.

Looks like old black and white tv reception to me. Lol.

  6. Boo'sMom July 5, 2018 / 7:58 pm

If you look closely, he even has some tiny topknot feathers starting to come in. Too cute.

    • 6rabbits July 5, 2018 / 9:12 pm

I saw those! He is so cute! ? Ive never seen a baby peacock before.??

Never seen a juvenile male before, too adorable!!

We had wild peacocks where I used to live, my mom referred to a band of peahens as my sorority sisters. We also had a confused male who was in love with a neighbor’s blue buick. Don’t ask.

    Love their call, exotic.

They sometimes interpret blue things as potential rivals. When I was young I got swaggered at when I wore a peacock blue shirt to the zoo.

I get the feeling they aren’t terribly bright.

It’s some sort of unholy hybrid–the wings of a bird and the butt floof of a corgi! It’s like a the goofy cousin in the family of epic birdbeasts like the griffin and hippogryph. I’ll call it the corgryph.

  9. Moo July 13, 2018 / 7:54 am

Drew Peacock… I see what they did there ?

    • allein ? July 13, 2018 / 8:27 am
