    Love the tucked-in kittehs.

  2. AJ July 21, 2018 / 8:51 am

Oh my goodness!!! Kitty Heaven!! An all so beautiful, can’t pick just one favorite so guess I’ll have to take them all.

Can’t stay long this morning as I’m getting ready for a day trip up to the Long Beach and Redondo Beach area. First stop is a Hawaiian Festival – music, food, hula dancing, etc etc! – and then on to the Redondo Beach pier for a stroll by the ocean.

    Aloha everyone!

    • SoccerSue July 21, 2018 / 11:57 am

I love Redondo Beach. Say hello to the pelicans for me!

  3. Amyliz July 21, 2018 / 8:52 am

Tina M. you are a better person than me. I would be a foster failure…what a collection of cuties!

    • debg July 21, 2018 / 11:33 am

I too would be a foster fail, especially with those adorable kittens! Your permanent cats are so pretty too.

  4. Faye July 21, 2018 / 8:57 am

    Cat heaven. ?

Milk Bar pic is adorable. And gorgeous black cat. But all gorgeous and obviously well loved.

  5. Faye July 21, 2018 / 8:59 am

Strange weekend here. COLONOSCOPY on Monday so Sunday won’t be my best day. Today is worry about Sunday and Monday day.

I’ll be back for the cute on Wednesday.

    • Murray C July 21, 2018 / 11:05 am

Ah, Faye, the prep is the worst part – do well, drink lots of water and try not to worry! And draw constantly – and pet Millie.

And that’s the cutest passle of kitties! I, like Faye, love the “milk bar” grouping (great description, Faye!) And I would be a foster failure, too – I have had several rabbits that I got that way.

      • Faye July 21, 2018 / 1:59 pm

Thank you Murray. A bit too distracted to draw now. But I am drawing two upcoming drawings in my head and looking forward to three painting classes per week starting next week!

And some food rewards before I start to lose weight again.

    • debg July 21, 2018 / 11:34 am

What Murray C said–it’s the prep that isn’t exactly pleasant. But there’s no need to worry. Just give yourself permission to be super-grouchy from the fasting (that’s how I did it!).

      • Faye July 21, 2018 / 1:55 pm

I’ve given myself permission to lay around in my pjs since Thursday and do nothing else but pet Millie or sleep.

        • dubravkamcvmd July 21, 2018 / 2:39 pm

Wow, that’s inspirational. I mean it. It’s so hard not to feel like you must plow on even if you’re upset.

    • N. Fritz July 21, 2018 / 1:05 pm

Okay, I know that colonoscopies are terrible. But imagine that you have an endoscopy without any Versed. I’ve had that twice in the past 4 months. Not habit forming as my father says. But it all depends on your attitude. How often do you have a colonoscopy? It’s literally a pain in the a_s but you’ve got this!!!

      • Faye July 21, 2018 / 1:52 pm

        N. Fritz I did! inadvertently have an endoscopy without the sedation. Bad iv. Yes, that was worse.

    • Amyliz July 21, 2018 / 1:32 pm

Try not to stress too much, Faye. Just think of that blessed feeling of relief when it’s over; that’s why I try to do when I am facing anything pleasant, but not always successfully!

      • Faye July 21, 2018 / 2:01 pm

Yes. I actually thank the doctor for the lovely drugs they give you when I’m done.

      • Annimator July 21, 2018 / 2:22 pm

I hope you meant anything unpleasant.

        • Faye July 21, 2018 / 3:46 pm

          Hahahahaha.

        • Amyliz July 21, 2018 / 8:42 pm

          Oh dear, yes I did!

    • Faye July 21, 2018 / 1:50 pm

Thank you all for your support. This is my fourth colonoscopy. I know it’s more about the prep day. I’m very prepared with every kind of drink I’m allowed, reading matter, etc.

On the day of I always feel so jazzed when it is over. I love the drugs. Lol.

      • fkaWaldenPond July 21, 2018 / 7:26 pm

Good luck with the process Faye, will send strong calming vibes.

    • Maia July 21, 2018 / 1:51 pm

The prep is no fun, Faye. Good luck with it (sounds like you’ve got this down) and try not to worry. Fingers crossed for a good report. And yes, enjoy the afterwards!

      • Faye July 21, 2018 / 2:02 pm

        Will update after.

  6. Birdcage July 21, 2018 / 9:24 am

Woke up with a bad headache (having TMJ trouble and these morning headaches are a consequence) so I’m sitting in a comfy chair equalizing and waiting for pain killers to work and for the head discomfort to subside. With a cup of decaf tea (gave up caffeine recently – tempted to go back – it calls to me). Still, must try to focus outward, not always so inward. Lots to be grateful for: my two Roses-of-Sharon bloomed overnight, a purple and a pink one. They are glorious. I have a nest of baby robins in my lilac tree outside my kitchen window. The hydrangeas are blooming. The sun shines.

    • Murray C July 21, 2018 / 11:09 am

Aw, feel better, Birdcage. I was thinking of you yesterday – I was at a friend’s house and she has a sun conyer (sp?) named Rembrandt, tho’ they’re not sure yet about the gender. “Remie” is about to undergo a blood test to determine gender. But s/he is a character – she kept flying into my head and didn’t want to let me alone – she just wanted to make sure I was OK, not a threat to her flock.

    • Maia July 21, 2018 / 1:14 pm

I hope the headache has cleared, Birdcage! I know it’s hard to stay positive, but you are doing a great job. My grandma had Rose-of-Sharon trees, which my mom successfully keeps. I’m glad that yours are blooming!

And yes, Murray C, sun conures are definitely characters! My son adopted one 4 years ago and it is happiest when everyone is in the same room– including the cat.

    • Faye July 21, 2018 / 2:07 pm

That is a rough morning Birdcage. I would love a nest near my window. Hydrangeas are my favorite. I love blue. They do have hot pink now. My nasty neighbor has big white bushes right around his corner lot. No one gets to enjoy them though because of his being so mean.

  7. Murray C July 21, 2018 / 11:14 am

Oh, I forgot – I had such a wonderful experience yesterday. I have a friend who is very interested in doing water color and I offered to come to his house (he and his wife are dear friends – to me and my hubby, I should be clear!) to give him some pointers and we had a great time and worked really intensively and I think he got a lot out of it. Yesterday there was a package on my porch and, much to my surprise, it contained a set of really
BEE-U-TEE-FUL French water colors! I was gobsmacked and so excited.

    • N. Fritz July 21, 2018 / 12:23 pm

MurrayC there are two possibilities: you come to Austria to give me water color pointers or ee meet somewhere in the US. Currently working my way through Jenna Rainey’s Everyday Watercolor.

    • Faye July 21, 2018 / 2:07 pm

      What fun!

  8. Duckie ? July 21, 2018 / 11:17 am

    Numb.

My deepest condolences, Duckie. Love and hugs to you and your family. Take care.

    • Amyliz July 21, 2018 / 1:29 pm

So sorry. I hope he went peacefully.

    • Faye July 21, 2018 / 1:38 pm

Awwww. So sorry. Terrible for everyone.

    • Duckie ? July 21, 2018 / 2:21 pm

      Thank you, everyone.
He went peacefully at the end, with wife, brother, father and sister-in-law beside him, as well as several church members. Children came in once the struggle was over and he was at peace, and the family mourned together.

      • Faye July 21, 2018 / 3:47 pm

        ?

    • fkaWaldenPond July 21, 2018 / 5:34 pm

      I’m so sorry.

Know that you’ll be there for your sister and his children.

Please know that while we can’t reach out and hug you, we want you to know that we are truly sorry for your loss and hope that you can find comfort with your loved ones.

This week was an emotional roller coaster.

I took a vacation day on Monday so that I could recover from last week’s disappointment–has it only been a week since I decided not to move? Got up early to start working on my basement bathroom, removed part of a damaged wall, and discovered a very slow leak in the cast iron pipe behind it. My wonderful plumbers came out right away and provided an estimate that made my eyes bug out. They recommended a sewer cam–colonoscopy for the bathroom!–and that happened on Wednesday. The line itself is pretty good, but all the plumbing to the main line from the house has to be fixed. Haven’t gotten that estimate yet, but from the ballpark figures, I’m going to have to refinance or get a HELOC. Bleah.

On Thursday, one of my dearest friends had her second surgery for ovarian cancer. She’s been on chemo and it seems to be working! Still haven’t had a chance to chat with her, but it’s a huge relief to know that things look so good. Every two years, she has some major medical crisis that scares us all. I keep telling her there are better ways to get attention.

My freelance editing gig kicks into high gear now because we go to press next week. Unfortunately, all the work has to be done on week nights to meet the schedule; I don’t love proofing for 3 hours after a full day of my regular job. Fortunately, that leaves this weekend free to gear up with cooking, figuring out how to set up a cat-proof screen door in my bedroom, and relaxing.

    • dubravkamcvmd July 21, 2018 / 12:59 pm

Wow. The emotional energy vortex at your house can probably be seen from space!

      • Faye July 21, 2018 / 1:40 pm

        ?

    • Maia July 21, 2018 / 1:22 pm

Hang in there, DebG! We’re rooting for you!

      • Ricky's Mom July 21, 2018 / 6:31 pm

        Roto-rooting, in fact.

  10. allein ? July 21, 2018 / 12:25 pm

    Mornin’…er, afternoon, all.

    Such pretty kitties!

Today I need to move some stuff in my living room and vacuum. My dad has been fixing up a bookshelf I got from my late cousin’s wife (she sold their house last month and is moving to Colorado), and he said maybe tomorrow he’ll deliver it. Also need to clean up the kitchen because it’s a mess. Maybe some laundry.

Last weekend I pulled all my fiction books and alphabetized and put them back on the bookcases (which also needed a serious dusting). They take up two full five-shelf bookcases, with a little wiggle room to fit future acquisitions. I only have one case left and it is not enough for all my non-fiction. There’s also the shelves over my desk (one is books – some fiction that needs to be moved, one is other random stuff) and the new shelves which will be in the living room. Not sure that’ll be enough. (That’s not counting the two big bags of stripped books that I have from when I worked in the bookstore, some of which are duplicates. Some are junk and some are things I really do want to read.)

Supposed to rain later. Hoping for a good storm cuz that’s the kind of mood I’m in. Next week we move to our new cubicles and I will be across from the person who bugs me most. Regretting not saying something to our boss-to-be when I had the chance and seeing if he would change it (he’s on vacation next week so it’s too late). At the very least I am going to have to tell her to stop spraying perfume in the office because I just can’t with that (she does it often after lunch; she is already wearing way more than enough to begin with). Not sure if it would be better coming from someone above her as far as getting her to reign it in with minimal drama (she’s the type to get offended because someone doesn’t like her perfume; it’s happened before). Also she’s noisy. Hoping my unwillingness to chitchat will force her to quiet down a bit. Keep your fingers crossed for me that my head doesn’t explode. On the up side, they can’t move my computer until Monday and I’m off Thursday and Friday so I’ll have time to decompress.

    • allein ? July 21, 2018 / 1:28 pm

      *rein* it in. oops.

    • Faye July 21, 2018 / 1:45 pm

I worked in a no staff perfume workplace. Let her know you’ll go the whole nine yards to insist on zero if she doesn’t tone it down. Give her a choice: None or Less. Be clear.

    • Maia July 21, 2018 / 2:01 pm

I am jealous of your book space, Allein! One of the hardest things for me about moving to my apartment was having to reduce my book collection to just one bookcase. I haven’t entered the world of e-books yet, and many of my books aren’t ebooks, anyway.

I am NOT jealous of your perfume-laden coworker. Best of Luck with her!

      • allein ? July 21, 2018 / 2:05 pm

My second “bedroom” has my desk and a filing cabinet (with my printer on top) on one wall and three bookcases on the opposite wall. The outside wall has a window smack in the middle so I can’t do much there. The fourth wall has the door and a closet, which I put a shelving unit into and turned into a linen closet, since the hall closet is not very deep and doesn’t go all the way to the floor (it’s above the vent for the furnace which is behind it).

  11. N. Fritz July 21, 2018 / 12:34 pm

BF and I made a whirlwind trip back to my village to organize plant babysitting, meet a friend, and pick up two new pairs of glasses. Not entirely satisfied with one of my frame choices but it is meant to be my sunglasses (Transitions). The other pair is my signature frame that I’ve had for 20 years and keep putting my new prescription in. Drove home through 30 miles of driving rain. But on the plus side I finished the audiobook of “The Marsh King’s Daughter” and also visited the memorial for the Lassing Mining Disaster that happened 20 years ago this week. Leaving for the States on Monday.

  12. Muppet2171 July 21, 2018 / 6:21 pm

Tried to enter cookies at the fair today (chocolate chip and oatmeal butterscotch). Domino Brown Sugar is a sponsor this year. Got all the way there and realized I forgot the stupid UPC from the package. Guess who gets to drive back to the fairgrounds again tomorrow!
Meanwhile, got to see some VIPs (Very Important Ponies) arriving. So that was nice.
