These are some of the best links ever! Rescued puppies, seeing-eye kitty, rampageous goats, SEVEN cheetah cubs (wow), penguin-shaming, and a balloon-loving Frenchie–I can’t pick a fave so I’ll just love them all. (Though the penguin-shaming is hilarious and clever.)

Fun fact: All of Emily Dickinson’s poems can be sung to the tune of the Gilligan’s Island theme song. It’s something about the meter she chose.

It works with House of the Rising Sun, too!

And, for good measure, Stairway to Heaven!

Damn it, DebG – how could you DO this to me?? I have STUFF to get done today, and now I’m singing Because I Could Not Stop For Death non-stop…
Great cute lynx!! Happy that a Manitoba story made it into the mix!

Not so fun fact: I’ve been singing the Gilligan’s Island theme in my head ever since I saw the email subject in my inbox. ?

And me. Next will come the Brady Bunch theme song. Tales from a misspent youth.

Does anyone remember about the notebook that was found in Antartica? Its pages were all frozen together and they carefully separated out and read them – written in Greek. And the reason was that the scientist who wrote them was talking about penguin sexual habits and that penguins were quite active in that regard. He was afraid to write in English for fear of offending the Victorian sensibility should any of the text become public. I have a friend who wrote a song called “The Prurient Penguins of Lake…” (Can’t remember the name of the lake)

Murray C, I never heard about that notebook! Any informative links you can supply?

That scientist was right to be worried, by the way. Another fun fact (I’m full of them today): Victorian scholars translated Latin texts from ancient Rome and came across several Latin words they translated as “decadent” in English. Being Victorians, they always assumed it was something sexual. In fact, Roman writers were talking about the decline of Republican government or values, or about upstart folks living the high life when they weren’t entitled to it (not coming from the elite families).
