Oooh, a siamese. Such a pretty kitty. Makes me wonder just what he’s seen that’s got him so startled. And I’m feeling a bit like him, this was a busy week. Kinda crazy at work as we’re trying to get out the annual reports to our major donors. I believe it was about 700 packets we need to collate with anywhere from 4 pages to 16 pages depending on how many funds they support. Plus we had a day at the races as our division annual get together. That was fun and I came out 60 cents ahead based on what I started with and what I bet. One horse lost and the other won so my record is 50/50.

Not much going on this weekend probably just errands and chores. It’s finally cooled down so it’s not totally miserable in the house. First stop, truck dealership to get our truck looked at as one of the side steps is loose. while they’re fixing that we’ll have breakfast. Then grocery shopping, plus dropping stuff off at Goodwill, plus bringing some collectibles to the antique shop to sell, plus hanging stuff up at the house. Whew, I’m getting tired just listing it all. Whatever you do today, have a great Saturday everyone!

    Gorgeous meezer!

Had the house appraisal yesterday, so now I can mess things up again! I’m running errands right now, then I’ll see if I’ve got the energy to start removing the ugly flooring in my bathroom. The new vanity arrives next week, the new medicine cabinet is here, and I’ll get a new toilet as well. In addition to taking out the flooring, I’ll go down to the studs in the walls so I can add storage niches. It’s a tiny bathroom that hasn’t been updated since probably the 70s. Niches set into the walls will help a lot. You can’t fix tiny, but you can fix ugly!

How can it be September next weekend?

    • Tara August 25, 2018 / 6:31 pm

Update on Honey Harvest: Nope. No honey. Not enough for me anyway. They made plenty for themselves though – so not really disappointing. And I didn’t get stung this time, so even better! 🙂

    • Tara August 25, 2018 / 6:35 pm

Sorry DebG! That reply wasn’t supposed to go here! It was supposed to be an update to my original post.

Good Luck with all your house repairs! and your comment about September next week? make me look like Siamese kitty. “Wha?!”

  3. Tara August 25, 2018 / 11:38 am

Wow! Where is everyone? I hope you are all out having a wonderful day!
I’m about to get scootin’ here myself. Lots of errands to run and then – Honey Harvest! Yesterday was St. Bartholomew’s feast day, patron saint of butchers, book binders and bee keepers, and therefore, it is also the traditional honey harvest day. As usually I’m behind ;). Tomorrow is a long over due Stich & Bitch, and I’m looking forward to catching up with those ladies.

Beautiful Siamese! I love that surprised look.

    Happy thoughts to all! <3

I’m back, after another twist in my life. My father was hospitalized at the beginning of the month with sepsis and pressure sores that we didn’t realize were developing. Long story short, he is finally stable, in a care facility, and now the challenge is to keep my mom from wearing herself out wanting to be there with him 12 hours a day. I’m working on refurbishing a tablet for him so he can play games on it, and perhaps be able to email mom (they don’t have cell phones, either, that’s my brother’s project).

But my son is registered for University with classes starting at the end of September, and the cat is beginning to adjust to my apartment.

So in general, things are going well.

I’m with DebG- Wow, how can August be almost over?
    Happy weekend, everyone!

    • Tara August 25, 2018 / 6:37 pm

Wow Maia you’ve got such a positive outlook! I hope your father’s health improves and that he can be reunited with your mom. Good luck teaching them facetime ;).

Such a pretty little meezer… Love the shocked expression!

After spending the entirety of last weekend with migraines due to the smoke, I’m glad that things are a little cooler now and there was a bit of breeze to clear it out a little. They’re promising rain for tomorrow, I hope we get a good drenching!

Speaking of kitty expressions, Lily is shocked, shocked at the behavior of the birds in the birdbath!

    • MurrayC August 25, 2018 / 4:14 pm

Jan, great to hear from you – I’ve been so busy I may have missed previous posts from you. Lily looks adorably intent! (Is she clutching her pearls?) Glad the smoke has a chance to clear. Last year my brother and SIL were evacuated in Santa Rosa and glad you’re OK.

Just got in from a stint in the garden – the temp is only about 85 today and lower humidity, but it’s still a bit grueling to be out there. Just the WEEDING! I hope to never see an oxalis again. But the garden is nothing if not effulgent, given all the rain we’ve had.

We often find interesting things in and around our property – we’re on a corner and own two lots and we’re near a library and two schools. One time I found about 20 beer cans among my flowers – sad part it was crappy beer so we put it down the drain. Today I found a bicycle – a pink 10-year-old girl’s bike, shoved so hard into a very prickly barberry that I had to prune out the branch it was stuck to. I ahsk ya ????????

      • Jan B. August 26, 2018 / 10:58 pm

Pearl clutching, no… drooling, yes! *wink, wink*

I don’t live anywhere near the fires thankfully, but there are a dozen of them scattered all over the state, and many more in adjacent states. They promised rain today, but they were mistaken. Sigh.

    • Tara August 25, 2018 / 6:38 pm

Squee! Lillyyyyyyy! I am always amazed how clean and beautiful white cats are.

    • fkaWaldenPond August 26, 2018 / 6:33 pm

Jan, your smile in juxtaposition to Lily’s expression and eyebrows crack me up. 🙂

      • Jan B. August 26, 2018 / 11:00 pm

She was meowing and chattering away at the jays and I was leaning over trying to take the selfie while she was climbing all over me… I’m surprised we both didn’t end up on the floor!

  6. allein ? August 25, 2018 / 3:02 pm

Hi all. Slept late. Not motivated to do anything. Maybe a good day to read.

  7. allein ? August 25, 2018 / 3:08 pm

Oh, and I listened to this Gastropod episode during the week about jellies (aka the original Jello-O, not the stuff you put on your toast).

Kitty would probably enjoy this one on the left:

But really I just wanted an excuse to share this video. 😀

    • MurrayC August 25, 2018 / 4:15 pm

? Those jellies look disturbingly like huge grubs emerging from the earth. Creepy!

    • Faye August 25, 2018 / 4:48 pm

Hahahahaha. I hate Jello otherwise I would definitely make those.

    • Tara August 25, 2018 / 6:42 pm

      Ah wow. I’m speechless.
My aunt turned 80 at the beginning of August and there was a potluck dinner. Aunt Ginny brought this orange-jello-carrot-pineapple thing that looked – um – strange. But to be polite we all took a spoonful. Then went back and cleaned the dish because it was surprisingly delicious!

  8. Faye August 25, 2018 / 4:55 pm

Hi All. Woke up late from two rounds of nightmares. Have not been sleeping well. Weird fuzzled brain fog persists through the day.

But cooking huge amount of sautéed and steamed veggies combo. Yummy. I am trying to eat two thirds veggies to one third meat. Low carb. Good hydration. And moving more.

Got Millie out twice on two cooler days and again tomorrow. Took a two minute closeup video of her Nose wiggling as she sniffed the air. Love to watch her nose.

    • debg August 25, 2018 / 6:03 pm

Have you tried zoodles yet? I love making zucchini noodles with my spiralizer and now prefer that type to regular pasta and high-fiber pasta. Zoodles and pesto are a great combo.

      • Tara August 25, 2018 / 6:43 pm

Oh, DebG I second! I was gifted one with three different shred sizes, ribbons, linguini and spaghetti. I love it and use it all the time.

      • AJ August 25, 2018 / 7:21 pm

Zoodles are wonderful!! If you don’t have the time or don’t want to buy another kitchen gadget, you can buy them premade. Just don’t get the ones in the produce section, I found those can be kinda icky and slimy plus who knows how long they’ve been sitting out. Trader Joe’s has some in the frozen aisle made from carrots and regular grocery stores carry Green Giant which has several varieties like butternut squash, carrot and I think sweet potato and zucchini.

      • Faye August 25, 2018 / 9:02 pm

I have tried premade and was not thrilled. Hmmm. Maybe.

    • Tara August 25, 2018 / 6:44 pm

Can we please see the video of the wiggling nose? Pretty please? 🙂

      • Faye August 25, 2018 / 9:01 pm

Hahahahaha. I will try to send to Mike!

  9. Duckie ? August 25, 2018 / 5:25 pm

Greetings all. Sounds like most people are feeling a leetle bit better about things.
No results on CT scan OR biopsy yet. However, started honking big doses of prednisone and the lump under the eye is shrinking rapidly, so I’m not as panicked as I was last week.
    Rain here today. Wonderful.
Hubby and I are going to sit down this weekend and talk finances. Very intense.
Have a great rest of the weekend.

    • Faye August 25, 2018 / 9:05 pm

Duckie I am sorry for your wait on results.

  10. Ricky's Mom August 25, 2018 / 5:59 pm

Duckie, I’m so relieved that your eye-lump is shrinking.

I send EXTRA-good vibes to all who are dealing with loss, pain, worry, fear, or sadness.

Today was a working day for me. Work going okay. In reasonably good health, though sleeping poorly. (Faye, sorry about your nightmares—been there!)

I still miss Ricky dreadfully. I’ve decided my current play needs more dogs in it. ☺️ I’m really not ready to bring a new companion home, and it may be a couple of years before I am. But in the meanwhile, the hunger for doggie-kisses is real. I flirt with every dog I can. (Also admire all the babies.)

    • Duckie ? August 25, 2018 / 6:15 pm

Ricky’s Mom, have you considered volunteer fog walking for your local SPCA?

      • AJ August 25, 2018 / 7:03 pm

I know it’s a typo, but fog walking?? LOL, LOL, LOL!!!! Love it, I have visions of either someone having a giant grey cloud mass on a leash or walking around with hands moving back and forth like they can’t see thru the pea soupness.

        • Faye August 25, 2018 / 9:08 pm

AJ I fog walk a great deal!

      • Duckie ? August 25, 2018 / 11:36 pm

        Ahem!
        DOG walking, Duckie.
        ?
Then again, maybe that’s what kitty is watching…

    • Faye August 25, 2018 / 9:07 pm

      Thank you Ricky’s Mom.

  11. debg August 25, 2018 / 6:05 pm

Duckie, I second Ricky’s Mom’s comments about your good news. Let us know about the biopsy results when you can.

Ricky’s Mom, I met two lovely doggies today at Petsmart–yes, I troll the store looking for friendly pooches.

    • allein ? August 25, 2018 / 6:53 pm

I do the same, DebG. Unfortunately I haven’t had much luck the last few times I’ve been there.

    • AJ August 25, 2018 / 7:09 pm

Luckily I have plenty of pooches in the neighborhood for me to get my fix. There’s at least 3 greyhounds , a Newfie puppy (he’s SOOOO BIG but so mellow),and a Rottie puppy that lives next door. Plus I met a Caucasian Mountain Shepherd. One year old and he’s already at 125 lbs, the owner said he’ll get bigger – YIKES! Oh and I saw a 9 month chihuahua and another little doggie in a purse as I was walking out of Goodwill today.

And I’m like you two, I have to say hi to any friendly dogs that cross my path.

  12. Alice Shortcake August 26, 2018 / 4:37 am

I’m seething with rage at the moment because I’ve been conned out of some money, and unfortunately it was partly my own fault for not looking at a website more closely. To cut a long story short I bought a wig from what I believed to be a UK-based company, but it turned out to be a Chinese firm using photos of name-brand wigs. The article I received yesterday looks like something you can buy for £10 at a fancy dress shop…and I paid £69 for it! I’ve been in touch with Paypal and am hoping that they can get me a refund. This is a particularly nasty scam as many customers will no doubt be women who have suffered hair loss due to chemotherapy.

    • dubravkamcvmd August 26, 2018 / 8:14 am

That really is infuriating. I don’t use Paypal. I hope the deceit of the Chinese company violates their rules, entitling you to a refund.

    • Faye August 26, 2018 / 10:02 am

      ?

      • Alice Shortcake August 26, 2018 / 2:30 pm

If I wasn’t fuming I’d be laughing – the wig in the picture is a spiky, silver-grey pixie cut. The one they sent me is flat, medium grey and looks like a very small dead sloth!

        • fkaWaldenPond August 26, 2018 / 6:30 pm

Getting ripped off sucks. I am sorry Alice. Are you able to style/resurrect the road kill? Maybe if you cannot return it you can style it a bit; I do know a couple of women who did this with their wigs.

    • allein ? August 26, 2018 / 3:27 pm

Millie appears to be touched by the Light of Dog…

    • fkaWaldenPond August 26, 2018 / 6:31 pm

      Hi Millie! 🙂 *boop*

    • dubravkamcvmd August 26, 2018 / 8:31 pm

      Millie’s got lots of personality!

    • Jan B. August 26, 2018 / 10:49 pm

      What a cutie!!! ♥

      Booooooop!

  13. Smartypants August 26, 2018 / 10:03 pm

    Gorgeous photos! Hello Millie (boop)

  14. Faye August 26, 2018 / 11:20 pm

    Aren’t dog noses amazing?!

    Thank you all. ?
