Welcome to Camp Maru

Last year Maru and Hana pitched a tent in the living room, but today they rough it in the great outdoors, complete with fun activities that bring them closer to nature. If you’re coming along, make sure you’ve got fifteen minutes to spare, because just like a trip to the woods, this video requires a long-term commitment.

Cicada *chorus*? That’s a gosh darned marching band.

Maru didn’t always seem too impressed with the “recreations”, or maybe it’s because he was on “energy saving mode” (LOL):

In the tent: where’s the box this came in?
Laser pointer and fireworks: um, are you serious?
Snack and dinner time: gimme, gimme, gimme

Beautiful Hana in the tree looked like a National Geographic documentary (with narration by John Attenborough, of course): The huntress, whilst high on her perch, surveys her kingdom for signs of discord and to establish her next meal…..

What happened at snack time is why Stars and Stripes always got their treats separately. (She still won’t eat hers in the kitchen; that is where he got his. She has to have hers in the living room.)

When we were kids my dad had a six-person tent and would sometimes put it up in the backyard for a few weeks in the summer, and we could sleep out there if we wanted. He also would open the pop-up camper in the front yard (and once we had friends staying over to sleep in the camper, but there was a thunderstorm, so he moved it into the garage for us 🙂 ).

Is it bad that I am jealous of a pair of cats? I would love nothing more than to join Maru in that peaceful evening swing time, cuddling with him and listening to the night sounds.

(Side note: the fact that a 15-minute video is a “long-term commitment” says a lot about today’s society, doesn’t it?)

A long day of fun in the fresh air! Hana looked beautiful on the platform in the tree. The green leaves really brought out her eyes. Mugumogu is a dragonfly wrangler?!? The sparkler/firecracker ending was gorgeous! I envy those cats.
