Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary has a clever new toy: a head-mounted camera that provides a top-down view of five wombat joeys as they cuddle and roughhouse with their caregiver. The “saucer” in the title refers to Saucer, one of an entire place setting of wombats we met last year that also includes Teacup, Teaspoon and Teapot. (via Murray C.)
This video is a little hard on the old motion sickness, but the wombats are worth it. Also, it has amazing clarity—it looks filmed, not videoed. Is it hi-def, perhaps?
Her soft chuckle… she’s purring with happiness. Wombatses seem to do that to humans.
They are so tiny! And the zoomies!
I want to apologize to any readers who found the head-mounted camera setup unpleasant in any way. To me, the motion was just weird, but for people with motion sickness it’s much more than that.
Sleepy Burrows did a second video with the same camera; I’m not going to publish it, but if you think you can handle it, here it is.
No need to apologize, Mike, at least not to me. I didn’t mean it as a complaint, just an observation. I’m sorry if it came off as a complaint! I could always have stopped watching the video if it was too much for me. I might just try the second one—I think wombats are worth the risk. ?
Came back to say it WAS worth it.
I really need to scritch a wombelly one of these days. That was unbearably cute.
Where do I find a place setting of wombats?
(When I googled that, I got pictures of wombats instead of dishes. I’m okay with that. I did find one picture of an actual wombat tea set but it’s too small to see the pattern on the dishes.)
Not quite a wombat tea set, but not bad:
