Welcome to Caturday, the perfect day to stretch out and relax. And in case you need a demonstration, here’s Odin, one of two cats in the loving care of sender-inner Metz (you’ll be meeting the other one soon).

I’m going to need a lot more yoga classes before I reach Odin’s flexibility!
Good grief! Does Odin even HAVE a spine?! (But he’s a beautiful color?)
Please tell me the other cat is called Thor or Loki…
Our “2nd” kitty is Julie. But we actually have a 3rd kitty now, he was abandoned in our neighborhood and adopted us. He is also orange, a bit darker than Odin, and we have named him Loki 🙂
I think Odin is semi-liquid! Beautiful kitty!
I realized this morning that today is the 25th anniversary of my Mom’s death; she has now been gone exactly half my life. Going to share a family story here: My Dad was a pilot in WWII. (I am the youngest of five and came along later in my parent’s lives) and he had to bail out of his plane while flying a mission over Germany. He was rescued and he sent his parachute back to the States with a note that said “The U.S. Army-Air Force is no longer in need of this parachute.” My Grandma (Mom’s mom) used the fabric to make Mom’s wedding dress! (My parents married in 1946.) Anyway, one of my sisters has had the dress since Mom died and another sister, who lives in Michigan, recently contacted the Aviation Museum in Portage, MI about the dress and they want to put it on display since it’s such a unique dress and story! So the sister who had the dress sent it off to Michigan last weekend. She said she cried in the post office but is happy that the dress can be shared with the public instead of being stored away in a closet. Sorry for the long story but I think it’s pretty cool!
Amyliz that is a wonderful story! Such a unique dress and I agree items like that need to be shared. My motto of late is if I can’t use it, I find a new home where it will either be used or displayed so other people can enjoy it. Does no good sitting in storage!
Wonderful, touching story! Thanks for sharing it.
That’s *really* cool, Amyliz!
Terrific memento of American history! Thanks to you, AmyLiz, for sharing the story, and to your family for donating your mom’s wedding dress!
What a really great story– I would love to see the dress! Do you have a photo of it or your Mom in it? 🙂
That’s very cool! In the ‘small world’ department, I just found my father’s WWII battle jacket (he was a navigator of B24s flying out of the south of England) and it’s going to our local Historical Society.
My brother has Dad’s bomber jacket; it will eventually go to my nephew.
Tried to post of picture of the dress but apparently the file was too big to attach here. Sent one to Mike that he can post at his discretion. Can’t see the dress to well in it; would like to get a copy of a picture of standing in front of the altar in the dress.
Here is a picture of the dress that Amyliz just sent to me:
Thanks, Mike! My techie skilled are not exactly first-rate! (Or even second-rate, for that matter!)
The neckline and shoulders are in style now! Your folks certainly made a handsome couple. 🙂
Yes, they did. My dad, at 95, is still handsome!
No doubt about that– and thank him for me. He did a lot for us; I am fully aware and truly appreciative. 🙂
Thank you, FKW, my Dad used to feel self-conscious when people thanked him for his service but now he appreciates their kindness.
Very sweet. Thanks.
Yes, I love this photo.
A great story! I had heard of people making wedding dresses out of parachutes but wasn’t sure it was real – they were silk in those days!
I remember my Grandma saying how difficult the fabric was to work with…the silk was so slippery! But she did lovely job!
That is a very cool story- and great to see the photo!
And one of my dear friends lost her Odin earlier this year (he was a lovely gray kitty with only 1 eye, naturally), and this Odin looks quite handsome as well.
It’s been 1 week since my mom passed- we just had the funeral yesterday, which was actually full of laughter & tears since quite a few people shared fond memories which usually involved my mom being sweet and silly. She would have approved. It still feels pretty surreal to me. My poor kitties have been neglected (i.e. not really but my distraction as of the last couple of weeks has made them very needy) and have clung to my side all day. I didn’t mind since it was comforting to have warm, furry, purry lumps to pet.
Oh heavens Jla, I am sending love and comfort vibes your way. Sleep with your purry lumps; may your dreams be clear.
I am so sorry for your loss. Take comfort in your kitties and memories of your mom!
Hugs and purrs to you as you grieve. Sounds like you celebrated your mom with style!
We never entirely get over losing our moms but we learn to live with it!
Ok wow! Talk about a small world. I live in Three Rivers MI which is just about 25 minutes south of Portage and Kalamazoo! Now I’m going to have to make sure I make a trip to the Air Zoo to see your Mom’s dress!
Pretty kitty! Goes nicely with the carpeting.
Today I need to go return my sunglasses and find a different pair. I really hate the frames because they are not comfortable to wear. I gave it a week but no. The progressive lenses on my regular pair seem to be getting better; I mostly didn’t want to just shut my eyes on my way home so I guess that’s a good sign. Also need a birthday card for my mom and figure out how to wrap her gift. I was going to get her a hand mixer because hers broke a few months ago. I had asked my dad about it and he said he’d look at some to tell me what to get but then the other day he texted and said she had just come home with one! So I asked what kind and how much, and I’m gonna wrap a picture of it up with the money she spent. 😛 Her birthday is tomorrow but I still don’t know what we’re doing for dinner.

So I pass this farm on my way to work and near the entrance they have these huge hay people…they’ve been there for years but this year they got a DOG!
Dog is adorable!
How does Odin do it?????!!!!!! I’m getting a sore back just looking at the picture. Cats are definitely part liquid and he demonstrates that admirably. Plus such a good looking kitty! Can’t wait to see the other one and yes he needs be another norse god or maybe he’s a she and called Valkyrie, Vally for short.
Yippee!! We finally had rain last night, it absolutely poured and I went to sleep to the sound of rain hitting the metal awning outside my window. What a relaxing sound. One part of our spooky yard is complete and this weekend we’ll finish the backyard (or at least the majority of it). Only 2 more weeks to Halloween!
Almost forgot, saw A Star is Born last Sunday and it was fab.u.lous. All the actors did a great job and the singing was amazing. If you’re into musicals, go see it.
Happy a wonderful weekend everyone.
I hope Odin doesn’t stick that way!!! Gorgeous boy, and now I’m looking forward to his sib.
Off to run errands, then it’s a long weekend of bathroom stuff (including a day off on Monday). The new wiring is in, so I can hang drywall at last! Toilet gets installed Monday. If all goes well, I can also install the vanity, faucet, and medicine chest. No more brushing my teeth in the kitchen! Hurrah!
I also want to install a new porch light today, while the weather is nice. The current light has a motion detector and shuts off after about 15 minutes. It’s no good for pizza delivery or Halloween–I have to keep getting up to trigger the light.
Hope everyone is safe, happy, and warm this weekend. We’ve already had our first light flurries in Colorado and expect more on Sunday night.
I’ve almost finished my fifth and final compilation of extracts from the theatrical paper “The Era”. A few snippets from the 1860s:
“RESCUE OF A BOY BY A THEATRICAL DOG. – Last Wednesday afternoon, while a boy was fishing near the docks at Dundee, he suddenly hauled up his line, thinking there was a fish on it. In the hurry and excitement, the little fellow lost his balance, and fell into the water. At the time, Mr Harrison, of the Dundee Music Hall, happened to be passing with one of his large sagacious dogs. He instantly directed the attention of the animal to the condition of the boy. It jumped into the water at once, and brought the boy safely to shore in a very few seconds after the accident occurred.

“BATHING WITHOUT DRAWERS AT RAMSGATE. – The Rev. J.S. Jones was charged with bathing without drawers on the 2nd inst. P.C. Hitter stated that he saw the defendant and two other gentlemen bathing without drawers, and waited until the machine came to the sands, and when he told them of the offence the defendant had committed he said he had forgotten to put the drawers on. The defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined 2. 6d. and 9s. costs.

A SPECTACLE NOT SET DOWN IN THE BILL. – A few evenings since there was a performance at the Worcester Theatre of the opera “Rob Roy”. In the last act a Scotch reel had to be danced. The Manager and his leader of the orchestra had not been on good terms, and on the evening in question their disagreement rose to a climax. The music to the dance was played so strangely as to draw down hisses from the audience, and dreadfully bother the performers. The Manager interfered, and stated to the hissing audience that one of the company should play the dance music instead. This was done, and the reel at last satisfactorily reeled through. Shortly afterwards the leader, having occasion to go upon the stage to perform a violin solo, took an opportunity, against all theatrical rule and propriety, to break out into an address to the audience. This was too much, and Mr McFadyen, the Manager, bolting on to the stage, collared the oratorical delinquent with intent to lead or drag him off, but he would not consent to be so easily removed from before the footlights, and a smart pummelling and cuffing match was enacted, to the infinite delight of the audience, who manifested the interest they took in the game of fisticuffs by uproarious shouts and cheers. At last the Manager succeeded in dragging his refractory subordinate from the stage, and the pair disappeared at one of the wings. Shortly after, however, the fiddler reappeared in his place in the orchestra, but here he was soon revisited by the wrathful Manager, who, with the aid of a policeman, removed him, and finally thrust him off the premises.

Alice, your excerpts have me clutching my pearls!
Kitty looks so comfy I’m not going to ruin the mood. Suffice to say, this week sucked. Next week has to be better.
Ok, Duckie, I know this isn’t your kind of music, but it always cheers me up when I’m in a dandelion patch type of mood:
I don’t know…i have no objection to a little Howard Jones. And you’re right: it helps a bit.
It seems to me that in 19th century England clutching of pearls was the go to response to a lot of things!
That and swooning, thus requiring a fainting couch!
Oh, goody! Shall I look for them on Amazon? To date I have only the first two.
The third volume, “A Complete Somersault Into The Orchestra”, is now available – “Please Throw Two Carrots At Your Mother” should be on sale in a couple of weeks.
Great, thank you!
Odin needs a tummy raspberry stat!
I lucked out this morning– I had to get fasting blood work done and I was so focused on not forgetting my requisition, shopping list and simply getting to the lab while hungry, I forgot my wallet with my Ohip card. OHIP cards have our photo id to prove it is us –universal health care paid for by Ontario province.
I didn’t realize of course until they asked for it and I guess I looked so dejected, they said ok, don’t worry about it. Phew! I was sooo thankful.
Anyway, nurse who took my blood was lovely, and well hopefully I won’t need another poke for a good six months!
Does Odin have an extra toe?
I noticed that, too! He has a thumb!
Helpful when you’re hanging on the tree of knowledge!
He does indeed have thumbs on both front paws! 😀
Two thumbs up!
where else but in Florida?
Cutetropolitans, are you in need of a feel-good moment? Here’s something I came across yesterday whilst searching for the Supremes’ “Up the Ladder to the Roof”. No, it isn’t the Supremes version – it’s the gentlemen of the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus:
Hey now!
I resemble that remark.
I’ve just noticed Shocked Blue Worm in the toy box and can’t take my eyes off him…
