Lacking any awareness of how fat and floofy he is, Maru attempts to squeeze into any box no matter how small, then lounge contentedly as if the whole operation was a great success. The only way to lure him from one box is to lay down another one, his favorite box, personalized with the bite marks of one contented cat indeed.
Another gem from the Maru files, sent by Andrew Y. and Diane B.
Awww Maru’s well-loved box <3
What a lovely swirl of Maru at the top of that box. He’s like a furry ice cream cone.
I don’t care if I fits. I sits. Until mom gets my favorite box.
No wonder it’s his fave–it’s perfect for The Circle.
Maru, I saw big brother tiger do it, so I know it’s possible:
You put your right foot in, your right foot out, but there isn’t enough room to shake it all about so you put your whole self into a bigger box and that’s what it’s all about.
OMG I remember this from childhood although the memory needs your help. What exactly was this? Just a nursery rhyme or was it a game? I seem to remember it was a game.
LOL When was this recorded!!! Long long ago and far far away!
Original Air Date: November 10, 1986
XD Around then I guess…
Versions of this song, which in the UK is known as the “Hokey Cokey”, may date back to the 17th century:

I am astonished that a song from 17th century England would be sung by children in a neighborhood in New York City in the 1950s.
The number of variations is fascinating!
How much do I love Maru – when he gets just his forepaw into the box and clearly thinks “Yup, mission accomplished.” And Hana is like “He’s doing it again, isn’t he?”
His Thickness is not fat! He is cobby. http://messybeast.com/conformation.htm
