Happy Caturday, Cutetropolitans! Joining us today is Teller, but as sender-inner Muppet2171 explains: “He’s embarrassed that I haven’t vacuumed lately. I tell him, ‘you know where I keep it…’ He’d rather just sulk, I think.”

Teller can come hide out at my house. I have lots of curtains to take refuge behind and I just vacuumed this week so no need to worry that I’m going to put you to work. From what I can see, he has beautiful markings. Siamese, if I remember correctly??
The only thing he wouldn’t like is the weather. SoCal is frigid!!! Well maybe not for everyone else, but it’s been in the upper 30’s when I get up in the morning and highs have only been in the high 50’s/low 60’s during the 10. Plus it hailed! And snowed! And some mountain towns are cut off! This is almost unheard of for my area.
I think it’s going to be a quiet weekend here. Haircut this morning, hockey tonight and errands tomorrow. But I’m so excited!!! I just booked the Alaska cruise that we’re taking this summer. I’m also planning time in Anchorage/Denali for the week before and visiting with my nephew and his family. He’s Air Force and stationed in Anchorage. Can’t wait to see them and see how big my grand nephew (he’ll be 1-1/2) is getting.
Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. Almost forgot, Netflix has this great British (of course) show called Kitten Rescuers hosted by this hysterical British comic, Jo Brand. It’s all about cats that get themselves into situations and how people help them out … like the RSPCA, the fire brigade, and the general public. She even warns you if there’s surgery being done that gets gory, to look away now if you’re squeamish. Try and check it out.
I just watched the one with “Tails” and yes, the surgery on this
poor kitty’s tail stub was a bit more than I could watch. It’s a
darn good program and I love Jo.
We’re having 50 mph winds tonight here.
Time to play everyones favorite game”Wheres My Trashcan?”
Ought to be a hoot.
It was the same here yesterday. I was totally afraid on my way home from work because the highway is in the middle of nowhere, and the big gusts of wind were very scary on overpasses. I was clinging to the steering wheel like a lil’ monkey holding on for dear life 🙂
I am sorry to hear that.Always an awful experience.
Good morning everyone! Like AJ, I’m about to get a haircut. But then the fun really begins: readying the shower walls for the tile! Primer, two coats of waterproofing membrane (it gets rolled on like paint), cutting openings for the niches (gulp), and then installing the niches. I can also finally finish the main color painting on the rest of the walls–some touch-ups and some new patches that got drywalled in this round. Soon I may have the towel bar installed!
Made macarons last night, this time mango shells with coconut cream filling. It was my first time adding a freeze-dried fruit (pulverized in the food processor) to a macaron mixture, and they weren’t kidding about the delicate balance of ingredients. This batch has a different texture as a consequence and didn’t bake as well. But they’re still tasty.
Hugs to everybody dealing with weather, grief, and/or worry. AJ, thanks for the tip about Kitten Rescuers, which sounds wonderful. Muppet, Teller looks very relaxed and I love your curtains!
Lawzy, DebG, I admire your talent and perseverence. Did I spell
that right?
Don’t worry Muppet2171; I haven’t been able to get my cat to vacuum either. I *have* had some success with getting my hubby to do it, so I’ll take that and be happy.
Took the girl cat to the vet for a checkup last weekend, and I won’t let them do the urine sample there (if you’re not aware, they get it by basically just squeezing until something comes out! We had a bad experience a couple years ago, so now it’s “No squeezy da kitty!”) So today I have to get it at home, which involves sterilizing the litter box and putting a small amount of non-absorbent crystals in it for her to pee on so I can collect it in a syringe. It also involves about an hour of yowling and complaining before she’ll finally do it. She already went over there and looked at them, then looked at me like, “Oh, HELL no!” and went upstairs to sleep. It’s going to be a long day. 😛
SoccerSue, I am sorry, but the first image that came to mind was Mr. Whipple (or whatever his name was) saying, “Ladies, please don’t squeeze the Charmin!”
Today, it would be, “Ladies, no squishy da Charmin!”
I could just see you telling your vet, “No squishy da kitty!”
Happy weekend, everyone. Teller, you are gorgeous, and you match my curtains perfectly. Come on over. You can lay by the French doors and watch the birds eat the seed that I didn’t sprinkle on the deck.
Lung function test over. Whew! Lots of pain today. I intend to speak to the technologist’s supervisor quite severely about him. After escorting me to a chair where I coughed, wheezed and panted, telling him I was very dizzy and in pain, he left me alone in the room and went for lunch!
Had fun downloading LOTS of free books this week. Got almost all of Andrew Lang’s fairy books. I’m kind of feeling inspired to start writing again.
Weather here is slush. Nothing more need be said.
Hubby MAY find out information on his being permanently hired next week. His supervisor told hubby he was next in line for full time.
Today will be a quiet day, full of little, easy errands. Tomorrow, after church, we will get back in our jammies and have a Doctor Who marathon. You are all invited.
And yes, I will serve ancient fruit cake.
Have a great week, everyone.
Oh Duckie, that sounds like an awful experience. I hope you will be feeling more comfortable soon and that your hubby gets good news on the job front.
He went to LUNCH????!!!! Krikey, that’s beyond the pale. Glad to hear that this experience hasn’t kept you from moving on to some challenges – that’s a great way to occupy your mind, When do you get results?
Thursday, hopefully.
Yeah, that’s really not cool. Keeping our paws crossed for good results.
I’m sorry to hear about your doctor troubles. In my dr’s office, they have a sign saying if you are waiting over 20 minutes, to come and let them know. Always thought they should have some type of button or bell to push to remind them Hey, someone’s been waiting!!! Hope hubby has good news with the job. Any type of waiting just drives me nuts now. Guess my patience allotment has been used up, lol. And I’ll be over tomorrow for the Dr Who marathon, thank you. I’ll take a small slice of fruitcake.
That tech should be canned. Totally irresponsible. Seriously.
Sad day friends. Went to a memorial this morning for a coworker who died of cancer (at only 50 years old) only to discover that it was being held for both her and her brother. He was a year younger than her and had died in a car accident two months prior to her. I don’t know how their poor mother coped. To lose the one unexpectedly while watching the other die slowly.
The only thing to do is cuddle the nearest furry friend and watch her do happy paws.
oh Jan B. What a sad occasion. So sorry for your rough day. Glad you have your beautiful Lily who is looks to be a pro! at makin’ biscuits. xxoo
So sorry, Jan. That must have been so difficult for everyone involved. Thank goodness for happy paws.
Wow, Jan, that’s a tough one. I have to say, I’ve had so many friends die recently – since just before Christmas – that it’s been overwhelming. I realize it’s likely to get even worse since I’m at a certain age. I’m thinking that may be true for many among us here. Glad you have your lovely Lily, Jan.
Hi all. Just got home from the Vikings exhibit at the Franklin Institute. It was interesting but unfortunately I was unable to get a magnet for my fridge collection. We went into the shop briefly but I wanted a glass so we decided to come back after looking at some other stuff and the planetarium but by then the magnets were sold out. Oh, well. I got one that says NERD instead. And a beaker shot glass. I got the beaker mug last time but it cracked, and I was going to replace it but I decided I don’t really need more mugs and the shot glass was cheaper. Then we went for dinner then back to my friend’s (her husband drove) where we played with her dog Smidgen for a bit then I drove an hour home in the rain. Now I’m going to bed.
My sympathies to everyone suffering in the freezing weather. Here in North Yorkshire we’re enjoying blazing sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures – when I took my Dad to the local park on Friday there were quite a few people in shorts and t-shirts, and I had to take my coat off on the way home to avoid death by suffocation!
In other news, I finally got round to binge-watching ‘Outlander’ on Prime. I haven’t read the books but I enjoy Scottish scenery and men in kilts. A few things that irritated me all the way through: why do most of the leading characters not age a day in twenty years? How is it possible for a 20th century time traveller to die in the 18th century but still exist in the 20th century in order to travel back in time to the 18th century? Yes, I’m overthinking this. Also, personal hygeine – I really, really doubt that a 20th century woman would be attracted to an 18th century man, however good he looked in a kilt!
My weekend has been full of caring for the husband, and scrounging money to pay for meds and wound care supplies. Gauze, Adaptic, and pads are not cheap. The hospital sent him home with a ton of it, but with the arm, and his leg needing re-dressed every day, it doesn’t take long to run out. I did manage to wind up with 5 rolls of medical tape between his 2 hospital stays, so I won’t need to buy any of that. 4 more weeks with the external fixator on his wrist, and probably about the same with the wounds on his leg and foot. Unlike Duckie, the doctors have all been really nice, and really helpful, as far as giving us supplies and free samples of the very expensive meds he is on. Well, all but the one who was supposed to check his broken eye socket, to make sure it didn’t need surgery to repair it, and they basically hung up on me when they asked about insurance and I said we didn’t have any. The woman said, “Well, there’s the rub. I need to transfer your call to financial before I can schedule your appointment.” I got a voicemail at that department, left a message for her to call me back, and never got a call back. She was rude before that too, asking me “Was he even diagnosed with a fracture? Did he see someone at the ER, had an Xray and was told it was fractured?” I wanted to tell her no, we just always have a trauma surgeon call and make referrals for no reason.
Illness and injury are so stressful and frightening all by themselves. To be unable to pay for medical care, and therefore not to know whether you’ll have access to the care you need, or how much of it you’ll be able to get, is barbaric. I’m so sorry you’re going through this Patty.
