so, I have a story re: cattails. my step-mom went boating with a family friend and collected cattails from the lake. A DNR officer stopped them and said they couldn’t just take cattails willy nilly. However, the DNR officer didn’t have the ordinance book with him so he let my stepmom take the cattails.
The family friend then died, and my step- mom wanted to send a “joke” bouquet to the funeral. she asked for a bouquet of cattails. But the shop assistant took her request seriously, and put together a bouquet of flowers with laminated photos of “cats’ tails” and sent it to the funeral! There were many confused mourners at the funeral that day!,
It’s hard to grasp what the shop assistant had in mind.
Oh my gosh! that is such a funny story! Love it! 😊

Thanks for the recommendation! I knew that eating cattails was a thing from Karen Dionne’s book “The Marsh King’s Daughter” (aka “Home”). The author was a homesteader for 30 years on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and she knows her stuff!
That is an amazing couple of stories! How funny and neat because now there’s 2 humorous events to mark the cattail saga.

Did you see Anderson Cooper’s show where a small town had invited him to be their Pussy Willow Prince? (sort of a grand marshall) – He couldn’t stop cracking up.
I was afraid I was homophobic because I couldn’t stop giggling at that, but I looked it up and it really happened. Except that Buffalo NY is not a small town. And Dyngus Day made me giggle again.
