Could have saved you dummies a fortune if you’d asked me first.

I for one did not see this coming, Sharon H.

    Consumer Retorts! Genius!

Thank you to everyone who sent Bibi and me good wishes yesterday. She was still not eating or drinking this morning, though still eliminating (darned if I know how she had anything left to evacuate) so it was straight to the vet for us. I also thought she felt hotter than usual, and it turned out I was right—she had a fever. The in-house bloodwork indicated several scary things, so Bibi is staying overnight at the vet, while they send her blood to the fancy out-of-house lab for more accurate results, and X-ray her tummy, and try to get fluids and maybe even some food into her. The vet we saw today will call me this evening with whatever news she has, and will turn Bibi over to our regular vet (same practice, different doctor) tomorrow.

I’m a bit shaken—Bibi has been super healthy since I got her Feb. 1, so this is a startling development.

To those of you who are also caring for poorly companions, I’m rooting for you, as I know you are for us.

I’d really love to read Consumer Retorts right now, it would be a nice distraction.

So sorry to hear about Bibi’s troubles. Prayers and best wishes for her speedy recovery!

Hoping for good test results, that will guide the vets in the proper treatment(s) needed. As to cat beds, when will hoomins learn, the box is usually more fun, or make sure it’s the dog’s bed, then the cat will like it. But it helps to keep pet stores in business.

Poor Bibi. I hope it’s nothing serious and that she feels better soon.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it’s something that can be treated easily and that Bibi makes a full and speedy recovery!

Fingers and toes crossed. Bibi will be fine. Bibi will be fine. Bibi will be fine.

Thanks, everyone, your good wishes help for sure! I don’t expect to hear from the vet before 6 PM (EDT) at the earliest. I will post an update once I have one myself. Meanwhile, I’m doing some housework and I also have a client coming for an hour, so that should help keep me from too much hamster-wheeling in my head. (I hope.)

It’s always tough when our furry, etc friends are not feeling themselves. Here’s to a quick diagnosis and even quicker recovery (for both Bibi and you). Sending long distance hugs.

I just heard from the vet. Bibi’s fever has gone down; her temperature is normal now. She ate some food (yay!). It looks like the bloodwork results from the outside lab are good, and that the worrying readings were an anomaly of the in-house equipment. They do want to retest her liver in about a month. Overall the outlook is improved. Our regular doctor will call me in the morning to report on how Bibi did overnight and whatever else I need to know. With luck I’ll be bringing Miss Bibi home in the afternoon.

    Thanks again, everyone!

        Awww. Thanks!

Good to hear. So faulty equipment caused some extra anxiety, bummer. Bibi will be glad to get home and get some extra snuggles.

To be fair, I don’t think the in-house equipment is faulty so much as it is less finely calibrated (maybe not the right descriptor, but you get the idea). I’m sure it’s perfectly adequate for many purposes or they’d get different equipment. The vet knew that it might not serve in this case, which is why she then sent the bloodwork out to the lab for more detailed results. I can’t complain, really; it’s hardly the vet’s fault I’m an anxious person to begin with! Even so, the outside lab sent the same liver results, so that’s something we need to keep an eye on. ::sigh:: In the immortal words of Roseanne Rosannadanna, it’s always something …
