Welcome to the weekend, Cutetropolitans! Sender-inner Allein S. would like to introduce us to Stars, but it looks like she’s in no hurry to meet us. Oh well, feel free to chat about whatever you want while we wait for her to wake up.

Good to see a picture of Stars, Allein, you’ve mentioned her so often. From what she reveals, she looks like my late lamented Honeybee.
Well, bless her sleepy little heart! And shame on us for even implying that she should be awake. 😃
Hot as heck here today but I did manage to do my usual 4+ mile walk starting at 5:30am. By the time I finished my tee shirt was soaking wet! Looked like I’d taken a leisurely stroll through a sprinkler.
Stay cool and stay hydrated, peeps!
I wish I could be like Star and shut out the world out too.
It’s been a bad week here, first the weather was and still is horribly hot and humid so I’ve been having migraines and not getting enough sleep and then I had to take my poor husband to the hospital with another kidney stone. He is out now and in no pain at the moment but the stone hasn’t passed yet, he has drugs for the pain if it comes back and medication to take to facilitate the passing bit if that doesn’t work they’ll go and get it via the “natural route” if you get what I mean, and yes that’s as painful and you think it is he had the procedure done before.
The cherry on top is I got bitten on the hand by something during the night, probably a spider, and my hand is all puffy and itchy this morning so I’ll be spending the day in a fog of Benadryl.
Well that’s it for me I’m going back to bed, I hope your weekend is better than mine.
I’ve had kidney stones and i remember being impressed the doctors don’t call the pain “discomfort” like they call every other pain (except childbirth, because, really).
Gigi, sending good thoughts to you and your hubby. Bed seems like the best option, given all these troubles.
Yes, Gigi, DebG is right. Bed is the place for you both. Hope the dang stone goes
before the doctors resort to the “natural” way.
I hope both of you get better soon!
Star looks so comfy and that little nose tuck is adorable!
Such a lovely kitty Stars is and after hearing so many stories of her, it’s nice to finally meet her. So sorry DebG about your week and all your ailments. Hope everyone feels better soon and the stone finds its own way out.
I wish I was like Stars and still sleeping. Picked up hubby at the airport after his business trip and didn’t get to bed til after midnight. Plane was late in arriving, he had to get luggage and then since the food was icky on the plane, had to stop and get him something to eat. So my butt is going to be dragging all day. Thankfully not much planned today – picking up my new prescription sunglasses, maybe a few errands, finishing cleaning and setting up the patio furniture if it stays somewhat cool and then ??
Talking about weather, please everyone find a cool spot and stay hydrated. Today’s the perfect day for taking it easy, and spending the day at an enclosed mall or seeing movies.
I am surrounded by chaos of my own doing this weekend. Now that I have a permanent contract in Austria, I feel like I should be living like an adult and not like a graduate student. So I am trying to upgrade my life, but first I need to see what I’ve got and what purpose it serves. That means going through lots and lots and LOTS of boxes and papers and junk. I am making progress and my self imposed goal is Thursday. Earlier would be better but I am working at my own pace and I am keeping myself entertained with music and DVDs. It all has to be done before I leave for the States, because when I return one of my dearest friends is coming back with me for a visit before school starts. Keep cool this weekend, y’all!
That actually sounds like a wonderful thing to be doing for yourself.
It does, but it’s not easy! I’m in the same boat with my studio. Couldn’t work up the interest last weekend, with Ursula so poorly, but now I’m seeking distraction. Good luck, N. Fritz!
Don’t I know it, DebG! It’s almost as bad as moving. I wish you sweet distraction as you clean out your studio!
Thanks, Dubravka! I am all about self-care this summer!
Aww, hello Stars! She is demonstrating picture-purrfect form of the nose tuck position. How gorgeous.
Happy weekend all. I can’t get over how hot it is. I find it actually very worrisome. How much hotter will next summer be? I’m going for a quick bike ride and then will spend the day inside doing inside chores. Maybe this evening I’ll go out to grill so I don’t heat up the house. I had the good fortune to call the right repair person for my freezer which stopped freezing everything about a week ago. He came the same day I called, decided I was low on freon, added some, now everything’s fine. The cats were thrilled because he also blew out the coils and with that out came all of their “lost” toys. It was like the old friends had returned.
To everyone, I hope you are safe and comfortable. Gigi – I hope your weekend improves.
Tara, your cats are very good at finding the silver lining! I can just picture the scene.
Stars! Glad to meet you at last. Yes, that’s exactly how we feel about the Cats trailer.
Good morning, everyone! Happy Moon Landing Day! I must be the only one *not* suffering from extreme heat, after several days in the low 100s. We’ll be in the low 80s Fahrenheit for the weekend, which makes me very happy.
Stripes is very sweet, with her classic curled-up pose. Her colors look just like my darling Ursula’s, though Urs had classic tabby stripes and Stripes is a mackerel.
We’re all adjusting to the loss of Ursula here. I’m still crying over her at random times, but I’m also relieved that she’s not in any more discomfort. It feels weird not to be worrying over her. My coworkers have been wonderfully supportive all week, which also made a big difference. I work with terrific people.
Hugs to you all as you deal with high temps and other concerns.
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to point out Stars’ pooky belly that just begs to be rubbed, albeit carefully!
Debg, so sorry to hear about poor little Ursula. I’m sure she had a wonderful long life with you.
Meanwhile, the Saga of Alice Shortcake’s Dad continues: he was doing remarkably well until the early hours of Thursday morning, when his alarm buzzer rang. I dashed downstairs and found him very confused and unable to speak properly. My first thought was that it could be a stroke, but the most likely cause seems to be hypo-glycaemia – the paramedics administered glucose to him in the ambulance and he was back to normal within about fifteen minutes (he suffers from mild diabetes). He was re-admitted to hospital as a precaution but we hope he’ll be discharged on Monday.
Oh, and did someone mention the “Cats” trailer? I’m not part of the target audience as I don’t like modern musicals in general and ALW in particular, but after about twenty seconds I had to turn it off…talk about nightmare fuel! And after seeing Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen as cat/human hybrids I hope I’ll be able to take them seriously in future.
Sending good thoughts to you and your dad, Alice. Hope he returns home soon.
Hypo-glycaemia looks very scary. When my mother had it a few years ago, I also thought of stroke but I was also afraid that somehow she lost her mind as her speech was not just incoherent : she sounded like a trapped animal. Later she told me that she didn’t understand why we wouldn’t understand her – to her her own speech was totally clear. And yes some glucose cleared her up in 15 mins or so. Alice I am glad that you also found him in time – before the diabetes coma. I hope he just needs some adjustment of the medication or to eat on a more regular basis and all will be well.
Thanks, Emsthemonster! Oddly enough he was aware that something had gone wrong with his speech, which made it all the more frustrating when he was trying to talk to me. I’d never even heard of hypo-glycaemia until the paramedic asked if my dad was diabetic. Thank goodness it wasn’t a stroke…and I’m so glad I bought that alarm buzzer. I dread to think what might have happened if he’d been unable to call me downstairs.
Kinda jealous of Stars- I’d like to still be curled up in bed this morning. We’re heading up to Vancouver, which will be fun because we get to see a lot of our friends, but it seems like the drive gets more congested every time we go. Tomorrow we were all supposed to go to a baseball game together, but by the time we had enough people confirmed to get group tickets, they were sold out. Luckily we’re good at changing plans on the fly, and will now be going to a barbecue/music festival, which also sounds like a lot of fun (and yummy!).
We’re finally starting to get summer here, but I’m certainly not going to complain about the off-and-on rain we’ve had for the past couple weeks, when most of the country is sweltering in the heat. Plus the rain is keeping the wildfires at bay, and our well full.
lol…I saw just the top of the picture when I opened my email and thought, hey, that looks like my parents’ couch! That was later on the day they came home from their trip a couple weeks ago. Already forgot I sent it.
94 degrees here in central Jersey right now. Not planning to go out anywhere. I need to take a cue from N. Fritz and start going through some stuff. (And yes, N., Stars does have a rubbable belly. She doesn’t actually mind it too much.)
Hope Gigi and hubby and Alice’s dad are all feeling better soon!
Here’s a joke for y’all.
Shiba humor–can’t beat it.
Allein, that comic made me snort laugh! And for anyone planning a massive action project, like going through years of boxes/stuff: be good to yourself! watch your favorite DVDs, listen to your favorite music or podcast. Take breaks away from the mess. Set achievable goals. Have a back up plan. And I always find it easier to do this type of work if a friend comes over (preferably with take-out) to distract me with conversation. good luck!
Ha! One of the things I need to get out of my house is the dozen or so DVDs I stole from my friend when I was cat sitting…two years ago!. Took me forever and a half to watch them and I haven’t seen him in a while. I sent him a message the other day saying I still have his movies and I would like to return them in the near future. (Luckily he doesn’t live too far from where I work so it’s not totally out of my way if I drop them off one evening.)
Hi Stars! Keep up with your beauty slumber. Gigi, I hope your hubby passes that damn stone and feels better soon. Enjoy your grounding Fritz; you earned it! And ugghh, it is getting even hotter in here–9pm and still 30 degrees.
grounding is definitely the word for it! Thanks… every hour brings me closer to the life I *want* to be living and not the one that is simply convenient and safe.
Wow Stars is a real feline beauty.
I could also use some extra sleep. There was a music festival in town this week so I spent the evenings there (I worked daytime though) and saw a lot of good bands and one of my favourites played on my birthday, so it was a good week for me.
Late to the party.
Stealing WIFI time at library. Mine is down.
Have no idea how I’m feeling or doing; the apathy surrounding me is stunning. But I have given myself permission to enjoy it, which makes a huge difference.
Repairman coming Monday to do Internet/TV/phone stuff, and then I can get my schedule back.
Have a (belated) happy weekend.
