Although the heat wave is no laughing matter, it does inspire our pets to chill out in amusing ways, such as this example from reader Tara O.:
Here is a picture I took of my Swee’Pea this past weekend. He was melting all over the back of the chair with the AC blasting on him, pretty much all weekend! Poor baby.
Rethinking that fur coat, now, aren’t we? ๐
A friend of mine told me she wasn’t using her fan at night because one of her kitties was scared of it but finally the misery got to be too much so she brought it in her room and turned it on. Kitty freaked out and ran away but ended up coming back to lounge in front of the fan because it’s been so hot. He’s completely ‘cool’ with the fan now. ^_^ Yes, that story is true. I didn’t just make it up for the pun.
We’ve been having a heat wave here too and I only have AC in my bedroom not in the rest of the house. I bloc the door open about 6 inches at night so the cats can come in if they want to.
Of my three cats, only Mia will come in and sleep on the bed for a while but she comes and goes many times a night.
My big male T-2 comes in sometimes but he doesn’t stay for long, he prefers to sleep on the cool tile floor of the bathroom that is 3 feet away directly opposite my bedroom door.
And little Bindi sleeps outside my bedroom with her back firmly against the door, I have wood floors so the floor there is pretty cool.
Aw my Swee’Pea! Thank you for posting him Mr. Mike. He’s the only one of the three to love the AC. And yes, Allein, I’ve been wondering about those fur coats too. ๐
SweeโPea is a cutie! I see you have nice deep window sills. Are you in one of the really
old houses in Philly? The house I grew up in in Philly was young – only a hundred.
At one point I wanted one of those smart thermostats so that I could lower the heat in the winter and raise the temperature in the summer.
Until my mother reminded me of my cat so now Her Highness has constant temperatures all day and night whether i’m there or not.
Poor Swee’Pea- I can relate. We’re in the Pacific NW so we’re not used to serious heat. We were debating whether to have A/C installed when we built our house, until we checked out a house for sale in the same area that either didn’t have A/C or didn’t have it turned on. This was the middle of summer, and the chocolate chip cookies they had in there to make it smell good had all melted. ๐
Our goofy black cat loves to be outside in the summer but of course she gets too hot, so she’ll try to stay in the shade by moving from one chair to another around the patio table, like a furry little sundial. ๐
Is always nom-time.
I wonder where that line is…you know the one between cat sitting on a radiator and cat sitting in front of AC??
Probably wherever you are sitting, as you will have to be the one to get up and deal with it.
I bought a gel-filled cooling mat for dogs (“No refrigeration required!”), and up until a minute ago Bibi was avoiding it. Now she has her back feet in her nice warm bed and the rest of herself on the mat. I’ll be interested to see what happens over the next few days.
I saw something like that for humans! anyone have experience with gel cooled mattress toppers?
What a sweet face he has <3
Theo hates the hot weatherโtoo much fluffy fur! The pic shows how he tosses the air director off the AC vent so he can get closer. A couple of times he’s even pulled the vent out of the floor!
Here’s that picture of Theo keeping cool — how cute!
That is so sweet. Fur really is for outside and burrows with no heating after all.
Thanks Mike!!๐
