Last Saturday, we consoled reader Squiddy as she dealt with the passing of her beloved cat Nefertiti. But there was room for joy as well, because we met Bertie and Cheshire, the two new cats she welcomed into her life. Here’s an update:
I took my new kittens in for their first wellness check at the vet. Even though they only met for the first time a couple days ago, I think they’ll end up being good friends.
Welcome to Cutetropolis Bertie and Cheshire!
Yes, welcome, our new fur nephews!
Oh wow. Adorable. Looks like double the fun with these two.
Luv luv luv them! Squiddy will be such a great mom. I hope you two pumpkins know how lucky you are!!
And hmmm…a wellness nap. Going to try it…
OMGoodness, they’re adorable! And I, too, could use a wellness nap.
That’s quite a pair you’ve got there, Squiddy! May they give you many years of Cutetropolis-worthy antics!
So glad you have these adorable furbabies to help comfort you, Squiddy!
Awwwwwww………they’re precious!! Congrats! 🐾
Oh no! Squiddy, I was away and didn’t realize Nefertiti had passed away! I am very sorry and that must have been shocking; she was a youngish lass and all. But hey, congrats on the two new complete face smoochers!
Adorable! Love the bow ties, too!
I’d love to join them in their wellness nap. They’re adorable.
My boss has allowed us work from home time. I’m using all that I can get allotted. That red chair is RIGHT next to my “office” and I get to snuggle and pet them in all my meetings.
I am jealous.
I hope you got parental leave too! They’re such dolls, I wouldn’t ever want to leave home.
Give those darlings a snuggle for me.
Good for you, Squiddy, taking on these two adorable – and good for them to have you as their new Human.
There is a tendency to tsk tsk or clutch pearls when humans embark on a new marriage shortly after a spouse’s passing, but I read once that it’s really indicative of a happy marriage that someone would be willing to take on a new spouse soon after a spouse’s death. I think the same can be said of adopting a new animal after losing one – it’s an homage to the one that’s passed.
It’s a sign of how much I love cats — how much love I had for dear Nef and her predecessors and how much I will have for these little munchkins. The hardest part for Nef was her being sick. I did my best to give her the best life and end of life I could, and then my heart ached for another friend to share my life with. I didn’t last a day before I knew I needed another fuzzy companion. And by getting them from the shelter (as I have with all my kitties), I was freeing up spaces for other cats to be rescued.
And I tell you, nothing makes sadness go away faster than two rambunctious, cuddly kittens. It is literally impossible not to smile.
It’s good that your heart is open to giving love. Sometimes sadness can make you want to turn in on yourself so it’s good to hear your kittens are helping you heal.
Well said! Condolences and congrats to you.
Oh Congrats Squiddy – they are gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing much more of them.
What adorable (and fortunate) kitties! Squiddy, I’m so pleased for you and I wish you many, many years of joy with those two furballs. ❤❤
Squiddy — So sorry to hear about Nefertiti. It’s always so sad to lose a close companion whether it be a fur baby or a human. I lost my husband of 61 years on 7/18 so there’s an empty spot in my life now. I’m in a senior living facility that allows animals so I am considering getting a kitty. Have had many kitties in all my years. My last one passed in May 2017 just before we moved here. There is quite a variety of dogs and cats here already. Looks like your new fur babies are already BEST BUDS. Kittens have a way of making friends quickly as it looks like these 2 have. Looking forward to seeing pics of their cute antics!!
I’m very sorry for your loss. You were lucky to be together for so long. I can’t really imagine how overwhelming this must be. I hope you feel safe and secure where you’re living and that a fur baby will be with you soon.
So very sorry for your loss. I think you should get a kitty or two.
I’m so sorry for your loss! What a shock to the system that must be after so many years. I do hope you end up filling that “empty spot” with a kitty. That would no doubt be one very lucky furbaby. 🐱
Lois/Flowerfanatic, thank you for sharing your sorrow with us here at Cutetropolis, so we can help lift you up and support you. A kitty might indeed give you some healing. Keep us posted!
I’m sorry for your loss, Lois.
I don’t think you’d regret getting a kitty. If you’re not able to get to a shelter, I’ll bet they could find a volunteer to deliver one to you.
OMG I think I am in love with those faces!!
