Welcome to another Caturday, which as we all know comes after cat-sual Friday, and today’s visitor is Hamster, who thinks our cubicle cat is a perfect match. “Clearly a Hamster relative,” notes Tracy R., adding “though that guy has a much stronger work ethic.”

Wait! The cat’s name is Hamster?!😄 Too cute!
The Most Interesting Cat in the World. “I don’t always knock stuff off the counter but when I do, I make sure it’s breakable.” 😋
The cat on the computer looks like a guy wearing a cat suit. Very human looking face. And Hamster the cat is very cute.
Setting up Halloween decorations today and of course, have up with new ways to terrify the neighborhood. Can we say spiders and webs and web wrapped bodies hanging from trees? Along with our dragon and werewolf and other goodies from last year. Plus now my friend’s twins are going to be the Creep Sisters. Image the little girls from The Shining and they’ll be saying a little verse before letting trick or treaters into the backyard.
Both: Welcome to our party
Girl 1: We’re glad you came
Girl 2: Beware of frights
Girl 1: That come in the night
Girl 2: Enter at your own risk
Both: IF YOU DARE!
Time to run amok again!
Wonderful AJ !!! Love it! 🎃👻🧟
Good morning! Not a lot this weekend. My mom’s birthday is on Monday so we’re doing dinner tomorrow.
Let’s have a drink for Caturday!
i thought those would be adorable as candle holders, so I Googled it and found this:
” />
Not sure how I feel.
(Can’t get picture to show.)
[I fixed it. Sorry for the inconvenience. — Mike]
I see a picture when I click on the link, Duckie. Cats surrounding a candle with electric flame?
Yes. I just wanted the pic itself to show.
It’s very… covenish, no?
Hence my feelings of uncertainty.
Cute in one aspect, but not in another.
And something I came across this week…I hope its true…
Awww, too sweet.
When I watched The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe commentary, they mentioned having to do this for Fenris Ulf and his posse attacking the Beavers’ house.
Seems slow today in Cutetropolis. Millie and I are having a slow day today too.
Old movies on TCM and Arting.
I’m announcing that most of my ptsd symptoms have abated. My sense of the present is vivid and linear. Much less distancing and interruptions by past events. A wonderful experience but sad too. It’s like stopping hitting yourself with a hammer.., I’m only realizing now just how bad it was. 😢
Learning to navigate a whole different way of being at 67 years old is definitely keeping me busy.
so happy for you, Faye! To live an authentic life should be everyone’s goal, no matter how long it takes.
That’s great news, Faye. It’s really impressive that you kept at it, trying to get better..
Thanks for sharing that Faye. It is so good to hear that these things can be overcome. Albeit with a lot of sweat and tears. (Autocorrect put “years” instead but that’s true as well). N Fritz’s statement struck me as so remarkable too! Simple yet powerful…”to live an authentic life”. I didn’t realize that’s what I have been trying to do!
My first thought was “she doesn’t SOUND 67” and my second thought was “she was going thru all that junk THAT LONG?!”😱 Soooooo glad you are doing better. Give a kiss to Millie for me!💙
Millie kissing shall take place.
Yup since birth. And I’m a very cool 67 year old.
Ooooo. Thank you all! Yup. Long time, tough going. And I’m as amazed as all of you.
The struggle was worth it as I got my art back in the process. I’ll send Mike my current drawing when it’s done. It depicts my progress at this point.
Now I have to get my physical health improved too. My ptsd has taken a tole in many areas physically and socially. But I’m trying to move forward in small steps.
Cutetropolis and Mike and all of you have been one of the bright spots. 😀
Hamster clearly does work being cute. Does s/he have thumbs too, like the cat-sual cat?
Taking a break from DIY to check in and eat lunch. I’m trying to fix my desktop so I don’t have to type comments on my iPad anymore! Hence my limited responses for the past few weeks. Also installing vinyl planks on my teeny landing so I can finally install a threshold for the back door. Cold blowing under the door has finally moved me to action after two winters.
Good news, Faye—glad to hear you’re doing so well. Happy birthday to Allein’s mum. I want those cat paw glasses!
Deb, where do you live? I’ll sew you a cute draft stopper.
I’ve got one already, thanks. Unfortunately, when I open the back door to leave the house, I can’t put it back in place! A real threshold will work much better.
DebG and Duckie, I recently found the most genius thing for that problem at, of all places, Home Depot. It is a long cloth sack, the length of the width of the door. It is about 4 inches across with a zipper on one of the short ends and a seam sewn right down the middle of the long length, so that there are two compartments. There are two Styrofoam bars one for each compartment. The bars are cut to the width of the door and one put in each of the compartments. Then the whole thing slides under the door so that the bars are one each on either side of the door. That way, the door slides the draft stopper with it as it opens and closes. ! You can also take the bars out and wash the cloth sack. It works brilliantly!

If you click on this it will take you to one of the many versions on Amazon. I could not get pics to show😕
Yay! Thank you.
Hi, all, I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I’m glad you’re finally coming out the other side of PTSD, Faye — that’s a tough thing to get through. So great news!
Our good news is that last weekend we went to a greyhound meet & greet and met several really nice dogs. Interestingly, the one we both realized would be the best therapy dog, plus get along with Sebastian, is another black female with the identical white spots as Melody! She’s known as Ladybug, although her registered name is weird — Yoofi Quanshaw. Strange! But Ladybug is a fun nickname, for sure.
So we’ve done the whole application process, and Ladybug joins our little family tomorrow! I’ll take pictures as soon as I can.
And there’s a lovely “In Memory” page on the Paws for Friendship website for Melody. Just go to the Paws site and the In Memory page is linked in the lefthand column. Jan, the therapy group leader, wrote a wonderful description of Melody. Which she richly deserved!
Have a great week, everyone!
Here’s the link to that page for everyone’s convenience:
https://www.pawsforfriendshipinc.org/in-memory.html
And also, this is the perfect opportunity to share this wonderful portrait of Melody that Laura sent me recently.
Thanks, Mike!
Laura – Melody looks like such a sweetie. Best of luck with your Ladybug! Can’t wait to see her!
Thanks very much, Mike, for both the link and posting the picture. We still miss Melody enough that we both are on the edge of tears every time we talk about her, but we know we did the right thing. She was far too sweet to suffer even one more day!
And I’m glad your vet figured out how to get Ani eating again. Do you wrap her in a towel when you give her meds? That’s how I always succeeded with cats. I’ve got no idea if it works as well with a rabbit, but I suspect it probably would help.
A vet taught me the towel technique during an earlier checkup. It seems to work better when there’s a second person in the room to hold the patient in the towel.
If you wrap her and tip her slightly back in your arms, it lets you hold her with the strength of your arm and still use that hand to help get her mouth open to put the medicine in. With liquid it’s easy to get in — but equally easy to spit out! I hope you didn’t end up coated with rabbit meds on your first few tries!
I’ll give it a try. FYI, rabbits can’t spit, but they can go passive and let the liquid drool out.
Gorgeous. 😢
Beautiful pictures of Melody. I’m glad you’ve found another greyhound to love. And thanks Mike.
Melody will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and cherished her. Can’t wait to see Miss Ladybug!!! ❤
We all hope Ladybug will be just as wonderful as Melody. The irony is that we’d talked about getting a dog who looked nothing at all like Melody and had gone to the meet-and-greet to see a gorgeous brindle. But when we met all the dogs, and when they met Sebastian, it was clear that Ladybug was the first and best option.
She’s a bit smaller than Melody and they actually look quite different in person, but it was up to my husband whether it would be too painful for him so we should wait for another dog. But he decided he wants Ladybug. Or just Lady, as he prefers. I think he finds Ladybug too cutesy. But it’s still better than Yoofi! Which would instantly become Goofy, at least in our house!
I’m so happy for you all! Melody was an angel with paws. I cried over her passing and hadn’t ever met her.
Was wondering if we wanted to start a Day of the Dead tradition here at Cutetropolis, honoring our beloved fur babies who were gone. Or would it be too heartbreaking?
That is a truly lovely idea, DebG! I just love it. Anyone else agree? We can honor all the fur babies — and even a scaly baby or two — that have been in our lives. If you’re like me, you’ve had a consistent collection through the years, all of whom are still loved and missed.
And perhaps we could combine it with suggested animal charities that we love that other people might not be familiar with. It would of course be up to the individual to donate or not to any group, but it would be a nice way to learn about small local or regional groups. Does anyone like this idea?
Oh, and thank you for describing Melody so wonderfully, Deb. That is perfect! And I know she would have soaked up your tears and made you feel better — that was her gift. I hope Ladybug can live up to even a small part of Melody’s ability to love everyone so genuinely!
I like the idea but please, let’s not call it the Day of the Dead. I think Mexico has a holiday called that and maybe it’s somewhat celebratory? and people who are familiar with it (I’m not) see the term that way? I have a video of Wacket I’d love to post.
Happy Caturday, all! Some recent minor drama here, as my rabbit Ani suddenly stopped eating a couple of days ago. Normally, her appetite is strong, so when I brought her a lunchtime salad and she just sat still, I knew something was up.
So it was off to the vet for an exam and x-rays, which showed that her digestive system was mostly empty and also that she has a touch of arthritis (not serious and probably not related to her appetite).
The doc sent us home with an appetite stimulant and some pain meds, both of which have to be administered with a syringe in her mouth, something that she does — not — like — at — all. She fights me tooth and nail, but I am just as stubborn as she is and she takes her medicine.
Those incidents aside, she’s in good spirits and is eating regularly again.
I’m so glad the vet figured out what’s wrong! I have no doubt you will persevere. Ani does – not – stand – a – chance. Please give her some extra snuggles from all of us. ❤
Anytime a rabbit stops eating it is serious! I’m glad you went to the vet and she’s got some meds. Any way to mix meds with some banana? You’d think manufacturers would know that by now. I truly sympathize as I have been in that position many times! Best of luck, Ani!🥰
How old is Ani?
She’s almost six.
I wondered cos of the mention of arthritis. Almost six is a bit young for that!
Oh these things are frightening but it seemed to end well pretty quickly. I’ve never had a rabbit – do they hold grudges, like cats? Another thing that makes giving cats meds so unpleasant.
Good job Mike. Glad your girl is doing better.
Maybe she misses Shorty; regardless, I am happy she is eating again. Be well you two.
Hi, Mike – just seeing this as I’ve just gotten online at 10PM for the first time today. I have a method for delivering meds (and food for a rabbit in stasis) that I find works really well. You can choose to burrito the bun if you like. Stand the rabbit on a surface that’s comfortable for you. I’m right handed, so I have the bun’s butt to my left. I lean over the bun and squeeze my elbow around the haunch (keeps her from backing up) and lift up bun’s head with my left hand. Insert the syringe towards the back of the mouth, and let ‘er rip. It takes a little practice and any rabbit will fight you some, but if you’re squeezing their back end firmly enough they realize they can’t fight back. Also, you should always keep Critical Care on hand and some baby food – squash or pumpkin or sweet potato. At the first sign of lack of appetite mix about a tablespoon of Critical Care and a bit of baby food (you can freeze any leftover) with some water to make a paste – you’ll need a food syringe for this – and give your bun about 4 syringes a couple of times a day until things normalize. A rabbit that doesn’t eat for even a day can get into trouble. Oh, and try to get water into her, too – as many medicine syringes of water as you can get. I recently had a visiting bun that I must’ve given about 20 of those little syringes of water since each one is only about 1/8 of a tsp. Glad Ani is back to her old self – stasis is really scary and buns are fairly fragile creatures.
Nice to go out and come back to good news from so many people. Yea Faye for making it through the hard times and being able to start anew at 67. And a new doggo for Laura, Ladybug sounds like the perfect fit for you. I know you’ll never forget Melody (and such a nice tribute to her, love the pics) but I’m glad you have room in your heart and home for another one. Thank goodness Ani is eating again but yeah, I know giving meds to pets is such tribulation. They’ll hate you for a minute but then they’ll just remember feeling better.
Yeah, pets are not pleased about meds. Unless rhey’re like Sebastian; throw it in his food bowl and he inhales it along w everything else! Melody got so picky I had to give her pills like she was a cat. Which describes most greyhounds perfectly — they’re cats in a dog suit!
They’re unusual dogs. Very addictive even if you’ve been around other breeds all your life, they’re so quiet and so devoted. They’re popular as therapy dogs, too; I know Melody went to several events where there were 4 greyhounds, 3 golden retrievers, and Tabasco, the therapy tortoise — she wears a vest around her shell and everything. It’s ridiculously cute!
Thank you AJ.
The odd-looking cat that was around last weekend wasn’t here Thursday morning. We were just about to give in and have it vetted, so we could let it in, like it was demanding! We hope it has reunited with its folks, and is happy. I miss the noisy thing! Surprising how fast one becomes attached!!
