I hate to see a distinguished and well-meaning couple bamboozled by vulgar tradespeople.

Especially considering that Wilbur and Winnifred, and their twins Hortense and Holden, are such pillars of the community. It’s just shocking how those merchants think they can get away with things. I know I’ll never shop there again.

speaking of NYE events and New Year’s Day, didn’t someone mention an all-day forum here, like a Weekend Open Thread… is that still happening? What’s the dress code?!

Ooh! i forgot about it! i hope that’s happening!

I hope so; I suggested it. And attire is pjs.

Pjs sounds like a great idea- I think I’ll go change into my sheep jammies right now! Might as well get comfy, since we’re definitely not going anywhere tonight- it’s a dark and stormy night here in the Pacific NW. In fact, if the wind keeps up they’re threatening to cancel the fireworks on the Space Needle!

Did anyone else’s neighborhood sound like the 4th of July, hours before midnight? I remember when people used to at least wait until 11:30 to start lighting off the big booms (shuffles off to change into pajamas while muttering about kids these days).

They were shooting off the fireworks starting at about 7:30. It only went on for a couple of hours, fortunately, not too constant, and then a few more bangs right at midnight was all.

I told my hubby that long ago, when I lived in San Antonio, the neighborhood across the road from me would shoot off so many fireworks on New Year’s Eve it sounded like World War 3. He assured me that when he lived somewhere in Asia — Okinawa, I think? or perhaps Guam — they would do the same thing, only with guns. We agreed that hearing the fireworks would be a lot better than worrying about bullets whizzing down through the ceiling!

Good point. Although we live in the woods, so it’s likely a combination of both here. ๐Ÿ˜›

    Happy mew year, dearest Cutetropolitans!

There were quite a few fireworks going off in my neighbourhood from around 8 pm onwards, but the highlight of the new year so far was my neighbours having a blazing row in the early hours of this morning. I was on the verge of pounding on the bedroom wall but being English I didn’t want to escalate the situation!
