Bells and Whiskers

Some ding-a-ling thought it would be a good idea to train cats to ring for their supper, and the result is ten solid minutes of dinging and crunching. After a while, it becomes surprisingly relaxing. (via Andrew Y.)

I like how tabby cat does just one tap at a time, but the black-and-white always tap at least twice (she’s straight out of a Japanese cartoon).

I watched a full five minutes – they were mesmerizing, so serious – but then skipped ahead to the end. I was disappointed that they weren’t interviewed . The clip just stopped.

‘k, the first thing to pop into my head was Dramarama’s “Work for Food”…but I am having trouble coming up with alternate lyrics to go with this video.

Though the line “I deny a problem with my attitude” is probably accurate for cats.

They’re both strongly right-pawed. Tabby, specifically, reaches across its body when it would be much easier to use the left paw. Now I’m sitting here pantomiming bell-ringing, trying to decide if I’d do the same thing — if it were the bell on a store or hotel counter, for instance. Dominant hand, or closest hand (when not the same). Hmm.

That was my thought too!! Pavlov rang the dogs to tell them when to eat, these smart kitties are in control and determine when their meal shall be served.

More like Bell, Book, and Candle if you ask me!

I have to listen to people ringing bicycle bells all day, especially when the group includes little kids. May have to give the video a miss and just enjoy the concept.
