Happy Caturday, fellow Cutetropolitans! Let’s take a moment today to appreciate all of the silly things our furry friends put up with to enjoy the comfortable life. To demonstrate, here’s Penny. “She’s a very tolerant cat,” notes sender-inner Muppet2171.

Penny looks a mite exasperated.
She was actually getting chin scritches…
Morning all! Have a good day! And Penny, um it gets better, hang in there.
My head feels tightened.
Flu, flu, flu, weak and nervous. First day up. Shook up.
This whole time?!? You’ve been experiencing this for weeks! My sister, who’s in the medical field, told me just today that this flu season has been bad. Let’s hope you’re now recovering.
Oh Faye that’s terrible. Hopefully you’ll be feeling better soon…that was a long haul.
Oh no! Please get the best care and get better soon!
Thank you all. It started on February 8. Better this Thursday, yesterday and today. Slowly recovering. Dr. Appointment Monday. Scared me into full hypochondriac panic mode. In reality it was more of chills sore throat coughing. My housemates were sick too. Very bad existential experience.
But something good may have come out of the whole thing that I’ll share next weekend.
Faye! I am not crazy about cliffhangers! 😁
It still boggles my mind after almost 10 years the level of absolute trust they have in me. I was only supposed to be socializing them for a shelter I volunteered with. They were about 3 months old and pretty much feral when I got them. I spent a lot of time on the floor of my kitchen with a can of cat food and a spoon to get them to even come near me at all.
It took about 3 weeks before Penny let me touch her…and even forgave me for having to give her medication almost immediately after (I was convinced it would undo all that work)! Teller took almost 2 months. And I honestly think the only reason he gave in was because he was outgrowing the collar the shelter put on him and I had opposable thumbs.
After I got them to be love bugs to me, I gave them back to be fixed and adopted. I got a call from the shelter president after about a week to tell me they wouldn’t let anyone near them after the vet and how did I feel about a couple of permanent fosters?
I was surprised, but happy to have them. They were happy to have me (another thing that kinda boggles my mind…I wouldn’t want me, but that’s a whole other set of issues). The shelter president was ticked because she had another litter that she had wanted me to take instead.
And that, my friends, is the tale of Penny & Teller. Named so because they’re really good at disappearing acts (and I was totally addicted to “Penn & Teller’s BS!” at the time. 😁).
Aw, they love you!
I loved P&T’s BS, too. Watched all I could find on YouTube and another site, then an internet friend let me borrow his Netflix password to watch the last couple seasons that I couldn’t find anywhere else. 🙂
That’s a lovely story. They had a bad start in life and then they met you. You turned out to be an absolutely secure source of food, warmth, shelter and love and they are sticking with you.
It’s so wonderful when we turn out to be just the right person to make a difference in someone else’s life. They found security and love and you found happiness and fuzzy friends.
Awww. How touching that they turned around for you specifically not just some generic humans.
Happy Caturday, Penny!
Waiting to find out if we’re going to lunch for my uncle’s birthday. He’s 88! My cousin had invited whoever could come to lunch but apparently my uncle wasn’t feeling well yesterday so I don’t know if it’s happening or not yet.
Other than that…reading comments on the penultimate Retail comic strip (strip ends tomorrow), and the comments thread about the series finale of Criminal Minds which I watched last night, and drinking hot cocoa, at the moment. Some laundry and grocery shopping and stuff needs to be done at some point.
Trying to find the best recording on Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major that’s available on iTunes. There’s a youtube channel (TwoSet Violin) that I follow and one of the guys on there plays that piece; he often plays a small bit of it as an example in their videos (I love that particular melody) and they promised to do the whole thing if they got up to 2 million subscribers, which they hit around January, I think, so they did a special live stream of it a couple weeks ago (the one guy played the violin solo part and the other guy adapted the rest of the orchestra for one violin). I’ve been playing the Symphony Hall channel on XM Radio in my car lately and the other day that piece came on just as I was leaving for work. It ended just after I pulled into the parking lot (takes me about a half hour to get to work). Unfortunately I didn’t catch the name of the performer, other than I think it was the Moscow orchestra. So I searched iTunes and I’ll listen to the samples to see which one sounds best.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
Good morning! I have to share some happy news about my pets Ani (rabbit) and Teddy (cat). When Teddy first moved in, Ani would often bully him by lowering her head and lunging. She still does this, but now Teddy has become more confident and treats Ani like a playmate. He will stalk her, complete with crouch and butt wiggle, and rush at her, and then she lunges back to chase him away.
But the best news came last night. I walked into the living room and saw Teddy licking Ani on the head, which of course rabbits enjoy very much. And he did this for almost 30 seconds, he was really committed to showing some affection.
Awwww! They’re friends!!!
Yippee!! Glad to hear the news. Hopefully this is the start of a beautiful friendship.
Best news evah! Bibi and I are happy for you all!
That makes everything worthwhile. You must feel like a very proud parent. 😘
This is wonderful. Cross species friendships are magical.
That is so terrific! I am happy for all three of you. Teddy Bear showed admirable maturity and Ani has been gracious in permitting Teddy Bear to live freely in her territory.
They found a way to accommodate each other.
Great story Muppet! I’ve been close to foster failing a few times but never heard of a requested foster fail. And Penny is showing some bunny level disapproval but I think she’ll forgive you.
Sorry to hear about you having the flu Faye, not fun. I think I’m finally over whatever crud I had but still have some soreness in the chest. May have to go back to the doctor and see what’s that all about.
Just finished cleaning and then I go to pick up hubbster at the airport. He’s finally back after a 2 week business trip to Guam. The time difference really blew my mind – 1 1/2 days so he’d call me as he was getting up a day ahead of me and I was having my lunch the day before. Even weirder was when he flew home; left on a Saturday, crossed the date line and landed on a Friday. Talk about time travel.
After that, it’s up to him. Only two things are definite, hockey tonight and picking up election supplies tomorrow. We have a presidential primary and local elections on March 3 and I’m a poll worker so Vote, Vote, Vote like a Stoat if you have elections in your area.
Yes Muppet…great story. We need more Muppets in the world. 💕
Happy Caturday, all! This is the first weekend in ages that hasn’t featured appointments, contractors, or some other thing to mess up my routine! I’m going to go grocery shopping in a few, then spend the rest of the weekend NOT GOING ANYWHERE. I’ll make a batch of lemon chia muffins, watch spinning and dyeing classes as I wait for my dye pots to heat up, and generally laze around. After a very busy week when I wasn’t feeling my best, this will be Heavenly.
Faye, hope you feel better soon. AJ, I’m sure there’s a way you and your husband could have games the lottery with your time travel. NTMTOM, such great news about Teddy and Ani! Allein, I like that body positivity! Muppet, your backstory for Penny and Teller is delightful. Wish I could have the same success with Scorpius. He will sniff my finger, but I can’t pet him unless he’s cornered.
Horrible wet and windy weather in York today, so I’m taking it easy and catching up on my reading.
Last week I mentioned that I’m now the proud owner of a thousand-year-old bell talisman which I’m currently wearing on a bead necklace. This morning, when I gave it a little jingle (as you do) an odd thought crossed my mind – “Why is there something vaguely sinister about this?” Eventually the answer came to me…because it reminds me of a short story by M.R. James, ‘Oh Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad’, in which a professor digs up an ancient whistle, blows it, and unwittingly conjures up one of the most disturbing monsters in fiction (NEVER read this story for the first time if your bedroom contains an unused single bed). The good news is that so far I haven’t been assailed by the ghost of a long-dead Scandinavian in search of their lost bell!
I just read that story! MR James’ work is wonderfully creepy. Moral of story: if you find an ancient whistle, don’t blow it. In fact, just leave it where you found it and Walk. Away.
Another lesson I learned from M.R. James: resist the temptation to buy scrapbooks containing illustrations from medieval manuscripts, lest ye be visited by something like a giant bird-eating spider with human intelligence.
M.R. James in a nutshell: steer clear of old things because they are probably haunted and want to kill you.
Love your tales Alice! I almost wrote “tails” which shows what my mind is on! NO people…not that… ANIMAL tails.
Happy weekend all.
Big Duckie is coping with a sinus issue that resulted in two prescriptions and a sudden desire to hibernate.
Little Duckie is a constant source of hysteria. She is moulting, and when she cleans her feathers with her beak, some always stick and give her feathered mutton chops. She’s extremely fond of one of the Weather Network theme songs, and when it comes up, she sings and dances. I had reached the point where I could stroke her beak and tummy, but then hubby tried it and Duckie regressed.
Hubby’s work issues continue, as does my being a disturbance. We’re sort of expecting things to come to a head in March.
My thighs are big enough to support kittens, bunnies, supper, violins, a box of tissues and even a birthday cake. But not for long. Diet seems to be working, and my clothes fit looselier (is that even a word?).
Have a fantastic Saturday.
I love the vision of Little Duckie singing and dancing to a Weather network theme song. I wish you had a video to share.
Sunny weekend in the Pacific Northwest. Went for a walk with a friend yesterday only to discover that my car had a flat tire and two low on air. Made AAA come out to the nature preserve to fix my car so we could get home.
Back at home, my fostering of a baby bun is going well. He’s warming up to me, and I think my cats may be influencing him (Mike, can you post a picture for me?). He’ll live with us for another 3 weeks, so I hope to have many cute photos to share.
Here’s that picture. Jumbo box o’floof!
He looks comfortably settled and enclosed.
Hope everyone is relaxing on this Caturday evening…
Hmmm. I think I often find myself in the porcupine’s situation.
