Well, if I have to stay home, at least I can catch up on my reading. I’m just finishing White Fang, and then I move on to Lassie Come Home, Marley and Me and Old Yeller. I haven’t heard how that last one ends, so don’t spoil it for me.

Maybe after Old Yeller he could go with Where the Red Fern Grows…
Don’t read Old Yeller!!! Not saying it’s got a sad ending but…. ummm, probably just too mature for a little dude like you. 😳
On my lunch break just now, I went over to the mall (which is very, very quiet) and picked up a book at Indigo. Anyone here into Hilary Mantel? I picked up The Mirror and the Light.
I’m currently reading a book about our terrible food system.
I really need to find something more upbeat next.
I’ve decided to reread Ellis Peters’ Brother Cadfael series, and am playing medieval music to go with it (and some Renaissance music, too, since I have an awful lot of that). So far I’m happy with my choice. The sun is out, which helps my mood a bit. I spent yesterday very frightened and sad. Thank goodness for Mike and Teh Qte, and all of you.
My rational brain and my anxiety brain are very much at odds these days. My hand-washing is approaching mild-OCD levels of anxiety (I washed my hands before lunch but then I opened the microwave OMG I have to wash my hands again!!!!) I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning and I’m anxious about that (beyond the normal level of I-don’t-wanna-go-to-the-dentist anxiety). I know the virus can’t come get me from the hospital down the road from the office (where I know there is at least one patient…) and the hygeinist wears a mask and gloves normally, anyway. But….😱
I know what you mean re ocd anxiety hand-washing; everything touchable is ‘lava’ now. 😀 Ahhh man.
Yes! Usually my OCD tendencies are more or less limited to getting up to check that the stove is turned off after I get in bed once every other week or so (despite the fact that I last used it hours earlier and had been in the kitchen several times since and almost certainly would have noticed if I’d left it on).
I must say, I’m oddly comforted by the ugly swirls of excessive cleaning solution on the metal of the turnstile at the entrance to my office stairwell.
Allein, you gave me a much needed laugh re: the hand washing!
We were told we had to work from home today, just today and we don’t know about next week yet. I went to the grocery store a few hours ago and there was a run on virtually everything. Unbelievable. Panic has set in, at least in my neighborhood. I now have 4 jars of peanut butter and my cupboards and freezer are bursting (I keep flipping between “buy everything” and “I have more than enough “).
Mike, thank you again for this site. It’s one of the few things keeping my spirits up!
I’m a little afraid for what I’ll find next time I go to the grocery store. I went to ShopRite on Monday (just for things I actually needed). Thought I’d get a jar or two of the marinara sauce I like and there was none…they had every other kind of that brand but no marinara. They didn’t seem to be out of a lot of stuff, though (no hand sanitizer and light on hand soap, though; didn’t think to go down the TP aisle…) Might stop after the dentist tomorrow, but on the other hand I might just wait and go at an off hour (since it’ll be mid-morning when I get out of there). I’d rather go when it’s less crowded.
We are all Lady Macbeth now.
OMG I love the Cadfael books Ricky’s Mom! I wish there were more!
Don’t feel bad little one. I’m in agreement about the Cujo book. And I think we’re all going to be hunkering down shortly. At least I got puzzles and craft projects to work on. I’m trying to limit my reading of news stories but it’s kinda like a train wreck, I’m having a hard time looking away.
To raise my spirits I’ve been re-reading one of my all-time favourite books: The Princess Bride. Yes, that’s doing the trick.
It’s nit-pick time! Mike, you can’t spell quarantine with two r’s either.
In the event of my being confined to the house I have plenty to keep myself occupied, but I’m getting a bit concerned about the possibility of theatres being closed. I was really looking forward to seeing touring productions of ‘Cosi Fan Tutte’ and Handel’s ‘Guilio Cesare’ at my local theatre, and I’ll be VERY disappointed if this won’t be possible.
Corrected! Thanks Alice!
Went shopping. Actually found toilet paper. Now going to hibernate for two weeks, by choice.
Someone at hubby’s work went in to be tested. He’s not in contact with hubby, but if he tests positive, the shopping centre will be closed for two weeks.
Wish I could curl up with puppy and his book. Oh, well, I got LOTS of my own.
If it came down to it, I could stay home for a couple weeks without much problem (except maybe stir-craziness). Would just need some groceries, really. As long as I have my internet and the qte is online. We’re postponing my brother’s birthday dinner, which was supposed to be Sunday.
My concern is getting a haircut. I get my hair buzzed and cut by a lady barber. Short wash and wear style. The place is swept but not big on disinfectant. Creepy. And I hate to let my hair touch my neck. Actually frightened to go.
This might be helpful…or not. I dunno anymore. Still going to the dentist.
