As the home quarantine continues, pets are getting used to the unusual sight of their humans at home during the day, like sender-inner Heather R. and her pugs:
I’m sending an update from the SF Bay Area, where we are under a “shelter in place” order. This means I’m working from home, with my esteemed colleagues Lulu and Coco (pictured). We would love to see updates from other readers with their own home office friends.

Such cute pugs!! My foster doggy, Matilda, looks like she will be here for a while longer. Humane Society put a request for more foster homes since they are trying to reduce the number of animals at the shelter. Obviously with people staying at home, not as many people are coming in to adopt and if you do, you must make an appointment. She’s been thrilled that we’re all home, spent most of yesterday sleeping under my make-shift desk, talk about an occupational hazard when trying to stretch your legs or stand up.
With all my free time, I have learned a new skill, I have figured out how to get a urine sample from a dog. Matilda went in for blood work on Monday to see if she’s healthy enough to be put up on the adoption floor and the vet called yesterday saying there’s some iffy results so can you get a urine sample. So here I was at 5:30 in the dark shoving a plastic bowl under Miss Matilda’s tushie, luckily I got in the right spot and voila, sample! Thanks goodness it wasn’t a boy dog, not sure how I would gotten one, especially if they’d spray up on a building.
The shelter I foster for sent an email to all volunteers, saying that it may be necessary that close the building and that ALL the animals could be sent out for fostering.
I’ve had to obtain urine samples from two different females. One was so tiny I held one of those plastic lids (that you’d use to cover an open can of dog food) under her butt as she squatted. The other female was bigger so I held a soup ladle underneath to obtain the sample. 😊
OMG, a soup ladle. I never would have thought of that. I’m dying here with that image in my brain. And I thought I was bad with an old plastic container I didn’t want anymore. Just had to ask, did you wash said ladle and put it back in your kitchen drawer?? My container got thrown out.
I washed it, then put it away for future use… as a urine catcher only! There’s not enough hot water or dish soap that could’ve made me reuse that ladle. 🤣
I sent a note to my boss yesterday about my new feline coworker:
“Should I report the sexual harassment I am experiencing to HR? My new coworker keeps looking under my skirt and even watches me shower!“
LOL! If you report the cat, then I should report the dog to OSHA for being a health risk. If I trip over her during company time, wonder if I can claim workman’s comp.
Wish I had some adorable furry coworkers like these to keep me company. 🙁

Sorry, still haven’t figured out what code I need from flickr to share images properly.
Fixed it for ya. Just paste the address of an image on its own line.
Absolutely darling, they look like twins with their markings
AJ, Squiddy and Lucy’s Mom, I haven’t snerked tea out my nose in months! Just when you thought it was safe to drink and read, someone explains how to get a home urine sample from a dog. I imagined the three of you, hanging out behind dogs, hoping for a squat on their behalf. Voila! They pee, I tea!
I remember an animal show where they had to get poo samples from a wombat named Emily. They tried chasing her around with a makeshift stick with a little sling but to no avail. Finally they fed her blue dye with her food which made subsequent picking up samples a lot easier. (I know, can’t do that with pee)
I love the pictures of everybody at home with their fur babies. I don’t have any anymore but I’m hoping to be able to escape NYC for my sister’s house soon and she has two cats. Yay!!
Just testing….very distracting when I look down and someone is doing this
This is Matilda hoping that some crumbs will drop from hubby’s lunch yesterday. She doesn’t beg, she stares and if that doesn’t get your attention, she’ll gently paw at you. Fingers crossed photo comes thru.
Aww! Love her hairdo!
Yeah, she’s a regular ole mop head. She’s had a barrette in to hold it back but she keeps shaking it out. If Matilda was my girl, she’d be getting a haircut but since she’s a foster, don’t think I have that option.
