It’s just a hungry bunneh looking for food. Hop over to my place and you can get food that’s better for you than seed. I admit I get a little irritated when a sqwerl (even though they’re cute) or big black birds take over the seed, seed cakes and suet that I put out, but I remind myself that it’s survival for all. Occasionally a wild bun comes around, raccoon, box turtle chippy munks , wild turkeys and skunks feed underneath the hanging feeders.
We used to have 2 peacocks and a pea hen that adopted our neighborhood and many of us loved having them come in our yards, sit on our porches , roofs and decks. Until one bad neighbor shot 2 of them in her yard! She didn’t like them on her deck. I refuse to ever meet that neighbor. Now, many of us have nothing to do with them. One neighbor sort of defended her by saying “she is a sweet person”. To which another replied back “ okay, then she’s a sweet peacock killer” and that ended that conversation.

The peacock story makes me sad. I love them so. When I lived in NYC years back, there were several on the grounds at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, my favorite place in the whole wide world. Their cawing during choir practice added a little something something to our music.

Loverly earsies. And urrrrrr, I’m so sorry Luv Bunny about that “neighbor” who wasn’t at all neighborly. If you don’t want an animal hanging around your yard there are other methods to try/use without shooting them! Good grief, I have skunks in my area that can wake you in the middle of their night with an odor so horrific you swear the house has just been tear gassed but I would never think of shooting them.
Well, my fellow Cutropelians, wish me luck. Me and hubby finally bit the bullet and put an offer in on a house. I know what am I thinking??!! This is SoCal and the house prices are gulp inducing but I think it’s a very good value considering the lot is a little over a 1/4 acre (almost unheard of here), the house is totally redone and the backyard is gorgeous. The yard is on an upward slope with three levels including a pool and jacuzzi on one, then up to an outdoor kitchen and finally, get this – a horseshoe throwing field. Good place to hang out this summer since I don’t think we’re going to be going much of anywhere.
Off to finish loan applications and send the stack of documentation they’re requesting. Hopefully, I’ll have good news to report later this week.

Oooo. Good luck! I grew up on a quarter acre. It was glorious.

AJ, we’ve got all our paws crossed for you. The house sounds utterly fantastic!
When I lived in Los Angeles, my fiber guild took a field trip to a llama farm on property much like you described. The llamas lived in the upper levels. If you get llamas, I will spin their fleece for you (hint hint).

That definitely gives me some ideas on what to do with the top level if we decide not to keep the horseshoe area. Not too sure how the neighbors would feel about them, lol. But who knows, it might be legal to keep them. And then … POOL PARTY at my place!!! Plus there’ll be plenty of space for you to spin that lovely yarn.
Sounds gorgeous, and fun! Good luck! (meant as reply to AJ).

LuvBunny…I am kinda reeling here. In shock I guess. You can shoot something on your doorstep?? With a gun??
And PS that is not a sweet person.
Luv BunnyJune 28, 2020 / 11:01 am
Dulcie, from my understanding, some neighbors did contact our law enforcement and was told that since it happened on private property, and the peacocks weren’t someone’s “pets” and they weren’t a “protected animal”, there wasn’t anything they could cite her on. And in response to AJ, we had skunks that decided to dig and burrow around our outside heating unit. So a few times we were awoken by the horrible spray. So my husband, instead of shooting them, got some small landscaping rocks and chicken wire and put that around that part of the heating unit and we haven’t had them try to live there since. I’d rather live with “ minor, pesty animal issues” than obnoxious neighbors.
debgJune 28, 2020 / 11:45 am
Agreed. Minor pesty animals are much less worrisome. For crying out loud, bullets can go anywhere in a residential neighborhood.

I agree, I’d rather deal with the wild critters that roam thru here than some of my neighbors. Funny story about skunks. One time, it was pretty late at night and I smelled something like gas in and around the house. Since all our appliances were gas, I thought I’d better call the gas company and have them come out. Didn’t want something going up in the middle of the night and us with it. So we evacuated and we’re standing around in the yard for like almost an hour before someone shows up. Goes around and checks everything and his verdict … a skunk had partially sprayed in the yard. Only good thing about him checking the various appliances is the heater had an issue and the landlord had to get it fixed ASAP. It was something to do with the connection and if we had turned on the heat, something might have gone boom or the house fill with CO2.
Luv BunnyJune 28, 2020 / 12:12 pm
I guess, thank a skunk next time you see/smell one. 🤣🤣🦨🦨
I was sorta startled she shot them also! I mean, weren’t they like “belonging” to the whole neighborhood? What else is she gonna shoot if she doesn’t like it in her yard?😳 And no truly sweet person shoots animals in their yard, just sayin’.
BTW, I am soooooo glad I have never had skunk issues, thank you.😑
I want to see the next pic that was shot. Just seeing bun ears is not enough!
debgJune 28, 2020 / 11:46 am
Oh those velvety translucent ears! Bunbun, you can have all the sunflower seeds.

Not llamas, alpacas! Llamas can be very unfriendly. Alpacas are smaller and very friendly—like pets.
¡CUIDADO! ¡LLAMAS!
Never viewed this Monty Python!
Here’s the full skit, via DailyMotion:
The llamas at this farm were exceptionally friendly. One of them, named Fancy, still lives in my heart.

You can have all the seeds if I can pet the ears.
