Meet the Maru Snake

Unusual among reptiles, the Maru snake (constrictus maximus) possesses a number of features similar to felines: Thin, fur-like scales; front-facing eyes; and rudimentary leg-like appendages. These similarities allow the Maru snake to attract the interest and even affection from real cats, as demonstrated by Hana.

However, the Maru snake is definitely reptilian in one important respect: It needs to shed its skin at regular intervals, a process that is tortuous and awkward to watch.

Never thought I’d see a polka-dot snake, Andrew Y.

Somehow, I don’t see polka dots. I see sesame seeds.

Having seen this sleeve thing a few times now, what exactly is it? Is it something Mugumogu made especially for Maru? And, why does it sound crinkly? Is it lined with bubble wrap? I need answers…..maybe Andrew knows?

My mom got a crinkly cat bag for Stars & Stripes years ago; Stars was terrified of the noise (as she is of everything) and Stripes wasn’t interested, so she ended up sending it to my aunt for her kitties (along with a cat hammock they also weren’t interested in).

The crinkly sound is from a middle layer made of a plastic material that makes noise when it bends (it’s used in baby toys, too). You can buy crinkle material for crafting but such toys are definitely available.

This is the first post she made about it in Nov 2016

But don’t think she’s ever said what it actually is.. other than calling it a sleeve

I would’ve guessed maybe you stick your arms in both sides.. like a hand warmer sleeve or whatever you call those.. but one side is different.. so I’m not sure XD

Thank you Allein and Andrew! This sleeve has fallen under the “what the heck is this thing and I need to know” category for quite some time. I don’t do crafting so who knew you could buy this crinkly stuff.

Haha, I just googled to see if you could buy it (though I figured most likely yes, I mean what can’t you buy these days) but I remembered the cat toy we had, and I’ve seen baby toys, like stuffed animals with floppy ears that make the same noise, or baby books with different textures and stuff like that.
