It’s Halloween in Cutetopolis! If you’ve been watching the holiday header above, you’ve already met the witch currently haunting the chat room. It’s Piper, from reader Candy G.

Piper looks suspiciously comfortable in the witch’s hat.
I thought she looked familiar!
Happy Halloween, everyone. No plans for today, except chores and try to read some of my library book. Wondering if there will be trick or treating (I know some NJ towns banned it but I don’t know if mine is one of them). Don’t seem to get much up here in normal times, anyway, but I have some Starburst candies just in case. (Okay, I bought them for myself, but I’m willing to share. Not the mini-Tootsie pops, though. They’re mine.)
Happy Halloween everyone!! Just getting ready to set up my socially distanced goodie bag distribution tables so I can welcome whatever children cruise by later today. I got on my jack-o-lantern tshirt and socks along with black jeans so I’m properly festive.
Piper looks very festive too and I’d prefer a broom too but a flying carpet works in a pinch.
Good Morning All,
Piper, you are such a good kitty! You look very festive!
I was talking with a friend of mine earlier who was walking in northern New Jersey. She passed a house all decorated for the holiday including a piece of pvc pipe, painted orange and black, set up from their porch to the side walk to be the socially distanced candy shoot! How clever!
Here in West Philly it has been a sad week. Even after heavy rains all day on Thursday, the National Guard showed up on Friday. Today is bright and sunny, cold, but sunny. I’m not sure what will happen today, but I hope nothing bad. My week was dominated by trying to buy toilet paper. On Monday morning I realized I was down to one roll. On Tuesday and Wednesday I found everything boarded up, no matter how far away I went. Finally, Thursday, I took the day off and drove north an hour, where I found a Target and tried to buy three bundles. The very nice lady at the check out registered said nope – only one. I hadn’t seen the sign. 🙁 I almost started crying. But I realized we have magical technology and I went to my car and asked google where the next closest store was and found one five miles further. At least now I have two bundles. That should last me a while.
I think I’m going to stay inside today and clean and knit. There’s got to be something good to watch? Anyone have any recommendations? Last weekend I watched Inside Out three times and caught up on this season of the Great British Baking show. Anyone have any other feel good things to watch? I’m all ears.
And don’t forget to set your clocks back tonight: https://www.cagle.com/dave-whamond/2020/10/daylight-saving-time
If you have Netflix, and very appropriate for today, check out The Worst Witch. It’s a cute little series for kids but I’ve been enjoying it. Kinda like Harry Potter light, set in an all girls witching academy.
This looks great! Thanks for the recommendation AJ. 🙂
I’ve been watching a lot of youtube. Though a lot is news/politics (Colbert, The Daily Show, and Seth Meyers are funny, but not great if you’re trying to get away from all that). I recently found a channel called Weird History, which is interesting (things like “What was Hygiene like in the Middle Ages” and “A Day in the Life of an Egyptian Embalmer”). The Ask a Mortician channel might be good for a Halloweeny binge. Or Rare Earth (channel by the son of Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield) is really good.
This weekend’s The Shows Must Go On show is Midnight Tango, which I’ve never heard of but will try to watch later. (Video should be available until 2pm Sunday, eastern US time/7pm GMT.) And they’re doing Shakespeare every Monday in November (each available for 7 days).

You might check out Peacock (www.peacocktv.com). It’s free to make an account and there are lots of movies and shows. Just noticed there is a Halloween category, now, too.
Thanks Allein! So many great suggestions. Weird HIstory sounds right up my ally – I just watched Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb on Netflix. Very interesting (but hard to knit and read subtitles at the same time ;).) And I forgot about Peacock. I’ve been wanting to catch Larry Wilmore’s new show. I will check it out.
Speaking of watching wonderful things on YouTube, do you know Pasta Grannies? It’s my new favorite. Caution: watching the show will make you want to make a lot of pasta! 🙂
I signed up for Peacock to watch the Amber Ruffin Show. I’m not liking it as much as some of her regular bits on Late Night (especially “Amber Says What” which is my favorite); I think it’s a mix of “new show working out the kinks” and it kinda needs an audience and right now they can’t have one. Not a great time to start a new late night show like that, I think. I think Seth does a great job without the audience, but his wasn’t a brand new show when they had to go remote (he’s back in studio but still no audience except the crew). I love Amber so I hope her show gets enough time to settle into a better groove (but she’s still writing for/appearing on Seth’s show so at least she won’t disappear if it doesn’t; she actually tapes in the same studio, too).
Finally got a chance to catch up on yesterday’s Mike gems. I think someone’s been eating too much candy.
Good morning, Piper. I prefer flying rocking chairs myself, but you gotta like what you like.
Can’t wait till Hallowe’en is done. Things get stupid around here, and loud. Last night’s run-up of fire crackers woke up several babies in the building behind us, and left them screaming in fear. I had to stay up and comfort Duckie until after eleven.
However, good things coming. Hubby’s job situation is getting better, and so are our finances. An employment standards case we set going in August should be finishing up soon.
Tocktober is ending but Nosevember is just beginning!
Have a great weekend, and stay safe.
Good financial news! Congrats!
Hey Mike, will there be a final montage of ‘tocks’ today, since this is the last day of ‘Tocktober’?
Hmm, I’ll have to see if have any ‘tock photos left.
Guess what tomorrow is?!?!?!
Hmmm. Not as scary as crippling self-doubt but I like the hat.
Went to the Hispanic mall near me for my usual chocolate/sugar skull. No festival this year but lots of little kids in costumes trick or treating between stores, Also had a traditional Day of the Dead
