We must dispense with the usual pleasantries, fellow Cutetropolitans, and go straight to this important story from reader Squiddy:
Bertie got really sick this weekend and had to have emergency surgery due to a hairball lodged in his intestines. He’s safe home now, a little worse for wear.
Even in his banged up, drugged up state, the sweet boy still smiles in his sleep. He is a constant, very expensive but worth it, joy.
Cheshire is super glad to have him home.
Feel better sweet Bertie! Prayers for a speedy recovery!
That third photo absolutely pulled at my heartstrings! Get better soon, Bertie! You’ve got a great friend in Cheshire (and Squiddy!)
Get well soon Bertie!
Poor Bertie! And worse of all, turning into a cone head! A least you have your friends to help you recover. Feel better little guy.
P.S. Mike’s hovertext are snort worthy.
Hang in there, Bertie! And you, too, Squiddy! Bibi sends healing puppy kisses.
Awwww, poor baby. Feel better soon Bertie! 🐾💕
Here’s a nice song for you and Bertie as he recovers:
So sorry for sweet Bertie! I agree, Kate Bush does make it all better. That must have been one nasty hairball, poor fella. He’s lucky to have a sweet friend like Cheshire and a beneficent pet parent to make sure he is on the mend!
Poor Bertie. Duckie sends you a hug.
Oh no, poor Bertie! I’m glad the surgery was successful and hope for quick healing!
Aw, feel better soon, Bertie! (Am I the only one who wants to gently rub that naked belly skin?)
We were supposed to do my dad’s birthday dinner tonight (his birthday is next Tuesday) but my mom called a little while ago to ask if I was free tomorrow instead. She said she woke up with a slight sore throat and sinus headache, but no fever and doesn’t really feel sick otherwise, so hopefully it’s just allergies or the wet weather we had the last couple days. But she wants to play it safe. Fingers crossed.
So I guess I’m doing dishes and laundry and trying not to freak myself out today instead.
Maybe I’ll watch Richard II starring Fiona Shaw (who I know from Killing Eve). It’s available until tomorrow.

Ooh, next week’s Shakespeare (available for a week, starting Monday 2pm Eastern/7pm GMT) is Macbeth, starring Sir Patrick Stewart!

(First comment on that video: “CALL IT THE SCOTTISH PLAY WE DONT NEED ANYMORE BAD LUCK IN 2020″…good point.)
Best Scottish Play ever. Stewart is mesmerizing!
Also, I just learned it’s National Pickle Day.
I LOVE that!
Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement! Bertie is still pretty sick, but seems to be on the mend. He’s super extra snuggly now too, almost like he knows we saved his life. I plan to have many many good years with him.
Dear sweet Bertie! So glad you’re home safe, with your mom and your BFF to look after you! Hugs and kisses to you, baby.
I took the day off yesterday, to help myself recover from election week. It was a smart move–I’ve had lots of fun dyeing, spinning, and plying yarn for an ambitious project. Someday soon, I may be able to share photos with you all! Then I caught SNL’s hilarious Rudy Giuliani bit on Weekend Update last weekend, and I remembered all over again that our future looks brighter, if we can just get through the next few months.
COVID test came back negative, as I was pretty sure it would. Hopefully the company’s insistence that everybody get tested before showing up for work will keep the rona at bay.
Yay for negative tests!
I keep seeing the numbers in the news and it makes me so very anxious.
Me too. I was getting a little relaxed in nyc because the positivity rate was not much over one for so long. Now I’m seeing long lines at the City MDS all over the city – people lining up to get tested.
According to the site I just looked at, NY is 2.7 and NJ is 6.9 (worse in the north than where I am, I think, but still)…South Dakota was top of the list at over 58%!

Oh, I’m so glad your test was negative. Take good care!
Alternating between laughing at the hovertexts and feeling bad for Bertie and his hooman- emergency vet surgery isn’t cheap, as I know all too well. Hugs to you all.
Gentle hugs to the sore-of-tummy!
Poor Bertie,
I hope that he feels better soon and i’m so glad that he was able to get help.
Sending many well wishes. Get well soon, Bertie.
Dear Bertie aka loveable money pit –
Hope you have a speedy recovery!!
