Cold enough for you, Cutetropolitans? It sure was for reader N. Fritz, and her cat Mutz didn’t like it at all.
It snowed overnight in Vienna and Mutz is having none of it! I let him in after I took the pictures, but I had to capture his most pitiful “Puss in Boots” look!
Here’s reader Tracy R. answering a recent request:
Someone asked to see this, so here’s the picture, should anyone want to see Hamster on a leash!
Such adorable babies!!! Love how Hamster’s harness color coordinates with his fur. And Mutz does look oh so pitiable. If he’d let me, I’d love to wrap him up in a warm blanket and give him lots of snuggles and kisses to make up for the delay in granting him entrance.
Any update on Duckie??? Fingers crossed for no blood clots and she starts healing quickly. Being sick around Christmas is no fun.
Finally had some celebrations to break up the same old same old this week. First we had our virtual Christmas party at work. Not too bad, got to see everyone which was nice. Played some games like trivia, bingo and a word game which I’m proud to say I won!! So I got a $5 Starbucks gift card for my word mastery.
Plus my nephew (who’s in the Air Force) finished his on-line degree and they’re having virtual commencement this morning. So I get to link up and help him celebrate this milestone. We might FaceTime/Zoom afterwards with all the family which will be fun.
Other than that, just grocery shopping and possibly some last minute Christmas shopping.
I love Mutz’s look of shocked betrayal in the first picture. I’m not sure Hamster is entirely on board with the leash.
Aw, poor Mutz. Come hang with me…I don’t like cold, either. I have blankets.
Hamster is so pretty.
Need to call Verizon. I hate calling to complain about things. But somehow in the two weeks between when I first ordered my new phone and when I actually finally received and activated it, I was charged for $61.69 worth of data usage. What the hell?
I also need to go to Kohl’s and return a couple jackets (I ordered three, keeping one). Want to do it this weekend because returns after Christmas…ugh. But I don’t know if it’ll be today or tomorrow. Also have a long list of things to do…we’ll see how many of them actually get done. Laundry and dishes, at least, are musts (if for no other reason than the fact that I only have two clean masks left).
Poor Mutz! I’m sure he feels betrayed! I love Hamster’s vest; very stylish… I need something like that for Lily. I used to have a harness for her but it had too many buckles and straps and was too difficult to put on.
Before our current string of rain storms (flooding predicted in some places over the next few days), we had a little bit of nice winter sunshine, of which Lily took advantage for napping. I love how pink her ears are in the sun! 😻😻😻
Hoping Duckie is doing ok. Hugs to you Duckie if you are checking out Cute today.
Observation:
Mutz is in the snow while Hamster’s Dad is wearing flip-flops.
Both sweet kitties.
Ha! I noticed that, too! And shorts and short sleeves!
I too giggled at the contrast. Poor Mutz. Though I hate the heat myself, so I’d rather be Mutz than Hamster.
A,B, C die Katze lief im Schnee….
I Googled this! Cute children’s song about . . . a cat going out into the snow! Wie süß! How sweet!
Cute kitties are always a good way to start the day!
Hope Duckie is doing good, I will check back later to see if there is news.
I think I finally found the perfect Christmas gift for my husband who is a fan of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, it’s not going to arrive in time but he won’t mind.

It looks perfect! He’ll love it!
Duckie is feeling very overwhelmed today. In the last three days, I got diagnosed with pneumonia, an appointment for a CT scan next Wednesday, hubby got a raise and a promotion, we qualified for a thousand dollar grant, and had a SWAT team take over one of the units in our condominium!
Tara, Little Duckie pulled her sweater into the cage, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.
On meds for pneumonia (dreadful things).
All the kitties are beautiful.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Yikes!
Hope you are feeling better soon!
Feel better soon. So much going on over there but why was SWAT there??! I’d love to hear that back story.
Duckie, we’re all crossing paws that you recover quickly. So sorry about all the ruckus at your house.
Bibi and I are not surprised you feel overwhelmed! Sorry the meds are nasty, but we hope that means they are especially effective. And that the scan shows exactly what you hope it will show. Glad to hear the good financial news, and congratulations to your husband on his promotion!
The SWAT team, though … Yikes!?!
Great excitement at the Shortcakery yesterday when it was announced that Covid vaccinations for over-80s will begin in York next week – the first on the 22nd and the second on January 12th. It will mean two trips by taxi to the mass-vacc site at a cost of around £40 but at least the jabs themselves are free.
Saw a headline this morning about staff at the hospital in my town getting the first shots. 🙂
Never have I been so excited about getting shot.
Great news!
I’m so glad your dad can get his vaccinations soon.
My dad should be on track soon. He’s not an anti-vaxxer, and he’s terrified of getting COVID, but he doesn’t trust the speedy releases of these vaccines. I’ll have to talk him into it.
Thank you, NTMTOM, for posting this during December, when we can see Mutz im Schnee (Mutz in the snow)! That was on December 3, and it’s the only snow we’ve had in Vienna this winter. Mutz spends most of his days inside anyway, sleeping on one of two chairs and occasionally going to the kitchen to see if he can snag a snack. He’s got it pretty good! Wishing you all health and good cheer this holiday season!
Did he forgive you yet, N. Fritz?
How’s life in Vienna?
Thanks for asking, DebG! We are heading for another strict lockdown December 26-January 18. This one is baffling because we had the regular lockdown til the beginning of June, then things kind of went back to normal. November 3 they imposed “lockdown light,” then November 15 they imposed “strict lockdown. We went back to “lockdown light” on December 8 and now another strict lockdown (shops closed, no services, no museums, no restaurants/cafes only take out). I’m worn out by it all but this time I have a plan (and time!) to really get some creative projects done. Happy holidays to you!! (p.s., Mutz is very forgiving, especially when the negotiations involve food!)
Happy holidays to you all, whatever and however you’re celebrating!
After another busy week of work (of course they’re all busy), I’m looking forward to a short week next week and then ELEVEN DAYS off. Haven’t had a staycation that long since I left academia. I’m planning to finish up some DIY projects, some late holiday knitted gifts, some intense knitting for myself, and so on. So this weekend, I need to make a list of all the DIY projects, to buy supplies and to realistically plan out what I can accomplish, while still leaving time for lazy knitting, spinning, and dyeing.
It will also be great to finish up the gift knitting, so I can be selfish again. My Fair Isle cowl, made from hand-dyed and handspun yarn, keeps beckoning.
Stay safe and healthy, everyone.
Not sure of the back story, just that one of our units had a somewhat unnice owner who spoke fluent swearinese and seemed possessed of friends with particular hygiene and health practices and dubious social standards. Said owner seems to have stopped occupying said unit, and it seems his son moved in to sell the place. Said son seems to have surpassed his father in his irregular life choices. First time I met him, he said “Hi, beautiful!” which made my skin crawl. His female companion made me wonder if they were going to operate a den of iniquities from the unit, and I commented to council about this.
Friday morning, very early, everyone in our building, the next door building and the one behind us were very rudely awakened by someone banging on fire doors. Several people suggested that the one doing the banging should stop, and when the suggestion was disregarded, went outside to enforce it. (Some of the enforcers should have put on a few more clothes. Sleeping in your underwear is fine, but even just adding a T-shirt would have improved things.)
Later, I was having lunch when I heard another bang. I went outside and saw someone in dark clothes slinking along our chain link fence and cutting a hole in it. I went inside to call the police when the phone rang from the front door. The man on the line said “this is the police could you let us in?” Not being in a trusting frame of mind, I went down to see who it was, and saw two HUGE men in full SWAT gear, guns and everything, at the door. I let them in, and they went up the stairs. I mentioned the man in the backyard, and one said the guy was a spy. Not a very good one, I thought, since I saw him.
I went back to our unit and looked outside, and saw three more SWAT guys with dogs creeping up the side of the building towards the deck of the ground floor unit. I put Duckie on the floor beside a bookshelf and I took the phone and went into the hallway, just in case.
Nothing happened all afternoon, and then I got a phone call from the lady downstairs to “come see what’s in the hallway”. I went down and knocked on her door, noting two SWAT guys sitting on stools right outside the front door of the unit in question, as if they were guarding it, and one of the council members strolling down the hallway with the officer who had originally talked to me.
Later, we learned that a search warrant was being executed on the unit, but not why. The two guards stayed all night, and were replaced this morning by two others. Three police cars and a detective car were in the parking lot most of the night, and the unit was emptied. I told the lady downstairs that if a coroner’s car showed up, we were leaving.
That’s all I know for now, but I can guarantee that my mind has not been fretting over finances in the last 24 hours!
Ye gods! I live in a neighbourhood where the police are sometimes called out to deal with fights and rowdy behaviour, but nothing like this. Although a man who lives not too far away from me was recently sentenced to life after incautiously boasting about strangling a neighbour back in 2007.
That all sounds very scary!
Holy moly!! Talk about excitement but also kinda scary at the same time. Wondering if they were running some type of drug operation from the place? Guess you’ll find out soon enough.
I hope it was just drugs, but if it was just drugs why stay? The drugs were either in there or not.
Either my complex is burning down or Santa is here.
I do hope it’s Santa…
Mutz and Hamster are beautiful.
This is the “everything goes out of order” week in the monster household.
First I could hardly start up the heating, then a few kitchen appliances went out of order, then the vacuum cleaner and now my car is misbehaving. I have found out what was wrong with the heating and the vacuum cleaner and I need to replace the kitchen appliances ( whisk, blender). So I’m afraid of touching anything in the house now 🙂
Why do these things happen in groups? I’ll never forget the time when the boiler, freezer and washing machine all went kaput in the same week.
I would have run away from home.
Oh, my heavens, it’s hard to keep up with all the goings on! Duckie, I just hope for the best for you and I’m so happy to hear your hubster is enjoying some success.
I loved seeing Mutz looking so longingly – I have a pic of my dear departed Purdita with a similar look – and it wasn’t even snowing. And Hamster and Lily – oh, my!
I’ve spent two out of the three last days baking cookies – the day in between was spent shoveling. And it wasn’t nice! Not like those nice, fluffy snowfalls that you can almost blow away, this was icy and you had to chop before you could shovel . I”m still aching after 4 hours of it. (We live on a corner with a double lot).
I’ve decorated to the nines even though no one will see it but me and hubby (who doesn’t really care) but I’m happy. (and he does care about that). I have a lot of old toys that comprise most of my Christmas decorations so I feel like I’m living in an old magazine cover illustration.
Happy Christmas to all – and for those who celebrated Chanukah I hope the Festival of Light was a pleasure and full of meaning.
I watched A Million Little Things yesterday and one of the characters had a cat named…
Puma Thurman!
And another character pointed out that it should have been Puma Furman.
😀
I can’t resist posting this. No real animals, but there is a cartoon cat.
or Puma Purrman!
