Maru’s Feat of Clay

It has been decided that Maru, Hana, and little Miri shall have their footprints immortalized in clay. This is a challenging task, as the cats must first be persuaded that the clay is not food, then that it is not a toy, and finally that it is still worth their sustained interest despite being neither of these things.

Miri has her very first beer (box), until Maru decides she’s not old enough yet.

They make such a good impression, Andrew Y.

I love how Maru and Hana are used to lying on their backs on mugumogu but at first Miri just wants to excape but then she decides that it feel pretty good and just relaxes.

Watching Miri go from feisty to sleepy made me want to take a nap.

Miri should be getting milk crates, not beer boxes!!

Mugumogu has clearly mastered the ancient Japanese art of kitten hypnosis.

She really has. That was adorable.

Mugumogu is a cat whisperer. That was amazing to watch.

Maru not wanting to put his fluffy feet in the clay…..LOL. 😻

Now I’m wishing I’d done this for each of the kitties I’ve loved. Much better memorial than anything I’ve thought of.

They’re nice little memorials but best to do it when the fur babies are still with you. When our last dog was put down, we had her cremated. What I didn’t know is the place also made a cast of her footprint for us. So when we went to get her ashes, they had that little memento in a velvet bag for us. I had been doing ok with her being gone but seeing her footprint just turned on the waterworks all over again.

My parents’ vet did that for Stripes but they asked my mom if she wanted it; wasn’t something they did automatically.

I was not offered the paw-print option when first Mazzilli, then Mookie died, but I was when Ricky died and I took it. I’ve never felt the need to keep ashes of (nor to bury) my beloved pets, but I’m very glad I have Ricky’s paw-print. One of these days I’ll have it properly mounted and framed/shadow-boxed. Right now I’m glad to keep it in a saucer in front of a quilted portrait (made by one of my SILs) and one of the many lovely sympathy cards I received.

I got a Minkette paw print that way. I treasure it.
