Hair Scare

One cat’s hair brush with terror

After seeing bare branches in his family tree, Broccoli the cat wondered: Could this happen to me? And so his frantic quest was beginning, to stock up on products to stop hair from thinning. When these didn’t work he threw them away, and saw they were too high a price toupee. So what, he’d decide, if I do become hairless. I’ve still got my pride and I just couldn’t care less.

A gripping story of triumph over the heartbreak of psor, um, triumph anyway!

Watched on β€œsilent” and filled in dialogue myself.

Haven’t commented much lately; screens hurt my eyes. Hope everyone is ok.

Aw, Duckie, I hope everything will improve for you in the near future! Take care!!

I can relate Duckie, even if I have only a mild version. The extra computer screen time, more time spent on my phone, and more time reading ebooks over the past year has worn out my eyes. πŸ˜΅πŸ‘€

The free software f.lux changes your monitor colors a bit throughout the day to mimic the sun (brighter in the morning and dimming towards warmer hues as evening comes.) It’s a gradual shift into night mode setting you find on Apple products

E-ink readers can be worth the investment if you do a lot of reading.

iPad-sized ones are almost as expensive as an iPad, but unfortunately they don’t display colors, only black/white and greys. They’re solely for reading because don’t have a strong processing capacity to render most websites with videos or animated, so everything looks sluggish.

OMG Kermit what great information! I will have to check it out. In spite of the fact that I would like to get my old life back where I have activities outside of my house!! We’re SO close!!

I have both an iPad and a Kindle e-reader. For reading the Kindle is a lot kinder to the eyes than the the iPad it’s almost like reading a paper book.

Of course you can do a lot more with an iPad and you can change the background to black, that helps with eye fatigue. Also you can get different apps on the iPad for reading books in many format, Amazon, Apple books and others, e-readers are usually tied exclusively to one provider.

Macs have a color-shift option built in, though it looks like f.lux may offer some additional options. I use my iPad as my e-reader. While I’m no fan of Amazon overall, I do think the Kindle app is kinder to my eyes than Nook, Books, Google Play, or Libby’s built-in reader. I have discovered that the pale green page setting, whose green-ness appears to be more like sepia (it’s an optical illusion), is most comfortable when I’m reading with the lights off. I prefer the actual sepia setting during daylight hours. I also switch fonts and font sizes fairly frequently. It seems to help. Some people really like the white-on-black option, so that may be worth a try. For myself I seldom find it helpful, but everyone has different needs and preferences.

            Hang in there, Duckie!

Sony made a small sized e-reader a while back, but they stopped due to lack of sales. I had one and I loved it until the power button broke and wouldn’t turn off. It became impossible to charge. It was excellent because the file management system was just drag and drop, files in the proper folder, like a USB drive.

They tried it again with an iPad sized one, but they only had it for sale in SE Asia so I couldn’t get to try it.

Lenovo also has a new laptop out with an e-ink screen on the reverse of the regular screen. The idea is that you can launch your PDF reader as you would when you’re working on your laptop. You have the choice to view it on the regular screen, or you can close the laptop and view it on the e-ink screen. Looks amazing but personally I will hold off until more reviews come in and the price comes down.

I thought the video was funny to begin with, but I was literally in tears at the end. What a wonderful message of self-acceptance.

Also, the little pawprint logo on the “laptop”!
