With that outstretched paw, I think Muppet2171 may be onto something! 🙂

Look at those eyes, I say either Penny is evil or she’s been partaking of the devil’s lettuce 😏

Pretty sure she doesn’t have a dealer…mostly sure. Sorta.

I want to shove my face into Penny’s fur whilst at the same time being ready for a quick getaway.

In other news, there was a bit of excitement outside the Shortcakery this morning when the concrete bollard outside the corner house next door claimed its fourth victim in five years. A van turned into the narrow street, hit the bollard a glancing blow and burst a tyre as it hit the pavement edge. The resounding “bang” brought me downstairs in double quick time, only to find that the bollard had escaped with minor damage. In less explosive news, last week I discovered that I have even more relatives in Philadelphia than I thought. My great-great-grandfather Albert Edward was the only one of six siblings who didn’t emigrate with their parents in 1883, but his daughter Margaret joined the others in Philadelphia in 1907; Albert’s wife Mary Jane Wray also had two sisters and a nephew who emigrated there.

Boo, won’t embed the video. If you can’t watch on Facebook (tried to find a youtube version but it’s not there), it’s a tiny white Chihuahua getting a trim, then a shower, then a nice clean t-shirt and sunglasses. (His human is a hot guy but not really my type.)

No plans for the weekend, really. I got out of work early yesterday and Monday off for Labor Day. Need to do some stuff around the house, as usual, and will probably not do nearly as much as I want to, as usual. Finally set up my Netflix account last week and put a bunch of stuff on my list to watch. Watched Bo Burnham’s Inside the other night, and last night watched the first season of Special; will probably watch season 2 today (which is about 3 and a half hours total). Have a bunch of comedy specials and movies and some other series I’ve been wanting to check out on there. My gift cards have me paid up until next June.

Just noticed my cable box is rebooting itself…grr.

    Happy weekend everyone!
Epic week here in Duckieville (not all positive). But first I wish to point out that Penny’s extended paw changed colour when her eyes changed colour. Be afraid.
    So.
Duckie is trying to figure out how to open her cage.
I had to install the heater Duckie hates in her cage because it got cool really quickly, and now I can’t budge her from it.
Older sister’s family may have been exposed to Covid, but we don’t know where or how. So we’re avoiding them, and they’re self-isolating. We’d avoid them anyway right now, as they all sound like dying moose in heat, but the avoidance is tripled now.
I have most of my Christmas shopping done.
I fell three times this week, and even though I saved myself from hitting the ground all three times, I put my body alignment so far out that my chiropractor nearly swore when she saw me.
I lost ten pounds somewhere, and I don’t plan to go looking for it.
Hubby lost his big key ring. After spending an exorbitant amount on copying my keys, he found his keys three days later.
And now, for the grand announcement: hubby got a surprise interview yesterday for manager of his job site! The opening has been posted, but they would prefer him to anyone else. The only issue is his lack of computer skills, but they still want him. This job would mean the world to both of us, and the end of our financial problems. We should know by the end of September.
So, as I both brace myself for, and recover from, all the excitement, I wish everyone a fantastic long weekend. And if anyone is coming to BC, please let me know. We can do lunch, and maybe I can bribe you to bring me a certain kind of Parmesan cheese that we can’t get here.
    🤗

    • Dulcie September 4, 2021 / 12:23 pm

Whenever I lose 10 pounds I go looking for it immediately. And if I don’t find it right away I look harder. ☹️

Very exciting news for you and hubby! It is nice to have a bit of comfort and security!!
Money can’t buy you happiness, but crying in a Jaguar with leather seats is very comfortable. 😜

    • AJ September 4, 2021 / 12:34 pm

Yippee for the good news and boo to everything else. And double yippee for having Christmas shopping done already. Haven’t even thought about mine yet.

    • 6rabbits September 4, 2021 / 7:56 pm

Oh I’m so happy for you guys Duckie!! Crossing my fingers!

  8. Carlotta September 4, 2021 / 12:45 pm

Goodness, Duckie, what do you do about a budgie that won’t budge?

    • Duckie 🐥 September 4, 2021 / 2:37 pm

Let her stay. She’s very opinionated about where she sits, and I don’t want hamburger fingers.
      She’s a judgy pudgy budgie.

Happy weekend to everyone. Looks like it’s going to be busier than I expected. At a car show right now. Originally it was told to me as just a few hour hangout but now it’s pretty much an all day event so I’m a little cranky about doing something I really didn’t want to do in the first place. Oh well, the weather is nice, I have a chair and shade so I’ll manage. And hubby is going to get me some breakfast. Usually things are better after food. Tomorrow is time for errands and another car event. It’s like we’re going back to the 50s as we’re all going to roll in with our souped up cars and hang at the malt shop. Then Monday we might go look at a house to buy. Prices are starting to come down and we need somewhere a little bigger. It looks like our roommate will be with us a little longer and it be nice to give all of us some elbow room.

Funny thing happened last night at our monthly neighborhood get together. Our area has lots of student rentals and sometimes they’re not the quietest of neighbors so us “normal” folks keep reporting them and their parties to the cops. Welp, someone called in a noise complaint on us. Mind you, we’re all older (40’s/50’s and up), no music was being played and there’s about 20 of us just standing around talking. My theory is some of the college students called it in to get back at us. So it looks like the fall semester is going to be interesting.

    • Dulcie September 4, 2021 / 2:43 pm

Oh yeah. The gloves are dropped and the dukes are up!!

    • Maxlover September 5, 2021 / 1:56 am

While I know that some college kids make perfectly good neighbors, that does seem to be the exception rather than the rule. I live in a quiet, residential neighborhood full of doctors, lawyers, educators, architects, etc. One homeowner moved out and rented his house out to a huge mob of college students. YIKES! Parties until 3 AM every night, really bad music blaring at all hours, aggressive unleashed dogs running loose, etc. It was a nightmare. One day, while I was there to be reimbursed for the vet bills incurred when their dogs bit mine through my fence, one of the students started whining to me:

“Everyone is always calling the cops on us! It’s not FAIR! We’re young and we want to have FUN! Everyone in this neighborhood is so OLD!”

I put on my best Fake Empathy voice and replied :

“Oh, MAN! I’m SO sorry we’ve inconvenienced you by the fact that we haven’t died yet!”

She looked rather puzzled by this. I rather doubt she ever figured out what I was really saying.

      • Dubravkamcvmd September 5, 2021 / 9:45 pm

I’m impressed by the young woman’s, um, sincerity. Also, was she twelve?

        • Maxlover September 6, 2021 / 6:28 am

Alas, she was a junior on college, so around 20. Sigh

Happy Saturday Everyone! Penny is such a beauty! Even the scary eyes don’t quite scare me off.
We had a rather chaotic week here in Philly. We had a “Chicago River” of our own on 676 – the highway that connects west Philly to New Jersey – after the torrential rain that came down from Ida, and also some help from a broken pump. I didn’t go into work on Thursday morning, which was just as well, as half of my bicycle route was under water. Plus tornado warnings Wednesday evening!? Are all the Philly/New Jersey folks okay? I’m up on a hill so only a slightly damp basement. The Penn/Drexel student population is back too and I’ve realized how much I have NOT missed them durning the pandemic. They are roaming around in packs of no less than a dozen each, not paying attention to crossing signals, driving the wrong way on-one way streets, and generally adding more chaos. sigh. Our stores are rather empty – not sure if that’s because of the weather, the pandemic, or the students, so thank goodness for farm shares. My wonderful neighbor and I are going to BBQ tonight and I have plans to roast a bazillion peppers. Found a pretty good recipe I’m excited to try for preserving them. Also making Uncle Ralph’s marinara today, cherry pie for neighbor, canning more tomatoes, roasting eggplant for baba ganoush, and maybe some peach sauce. Ha! That all sounds very ambitions. We’ll see how much I actually get to. Very happy for the nice long weekend.
Sending good wishes to all 🥰

Ever since I discovered my family connection with Philadelphia I’ve taken an interest in what’s happening there – I’ve just watched a Youtube vid about the flooding of the riverside area. But TORNADO WARNINGS?!

      • Tara September 5, 2021 / 7:10 pm

Right!? Someone at my Stitch&Bitch this morning predicted that the whole “tornado alley” is shifting – right into our path.
        Thats. just. great.

      • allein 🐾 September 5, 2021 / 7:42 pm

Not just warnings; several (9?) houses were destroyed in a neighborhood in south Jersey. (No one was hurt, as far as I know, at least.) I saw video; I’ve never seen video of a tornado that big in Jersey. I’ve only seen small ones that mostly did minor damage to trees and a house or two.

My friend’s street flooded; she said it was deep enough you couldn’t drive in it, though I guess not far enough up their driveway to damage their cars (it’s fairly steep so the cars are above street level when pulled up as far as possible). I just imagine a tornado going through there where they can’t have basements (they would regularly fill with water if they did, and a lot of the houses had to be raised after Sandy. Their foundation used to be about 3 feet high and the water line from Sandy was another five feet up the walls inside; they added another 9 feet to it after that.)

          Honestly, I feel as though we’re living in a poorly-written, ineptly-directed disaster movie…

            • allein 🐾 September 6, 2021 / 10:53 am

Unfortunately, the expenses will be far exceeding the budget, I fear…

That scroll down was great! Penny looks like such a mild cat, then…WHAM! You never know with cats…

I believe that whoever drew that comic has a spy cam in my house.

Hi, all. Yay! for the Duckie family; I’ll be sending good wishes your hubby’s way. And I don’t blame any budgie that has a heater to sit on; I just want to join them!

I’m having a worrying weekend. My husband had to go to the ER Thursday evening because he had an old ulcer start bleeding again. He’s still in the hospital, and odds are slim that he’ll get out before Tuesday (holiday weekend in the US, so the VA hospital works holiday hours Monday). It’s annoying enough that he gets free medical care and I don’t (he has a military-caused disability), and now he’s in there worrying me by gettimg worse before he finally started getting better this evening! They clipped the ulcer shut, so he’s now joined me by having metal implanted that will set off metal detectors (I have a titanium knee and metal in my back, too). But he’s miserable even though they’re taking good care of him, with only bad TV and no internet for entertainment. And I’m not allowed to visit, which we both find frustrating. At least the doctor was used to family members on the phone for conferences!

And then my daughter thinks she may have Covid, or at least a bad flu; she’s vaccinated so I’m not afraid she’ll die from Covid, but I wish she wasn’t so far away so I could help her. Once a mom, always a mom!

But the dogs and I are healthy and happy!

AJ, having once lived too close to a neighborhood building that people would rent and then crank the music up in spite of it being in the middle of a quiet residential neighborhood, I say call the cops in on the noise without the slightest worry! That’s the only way to teach some people how to act like adults. I’m sure the cope prefer noise complaints to most other types of calls they get, anyway!

I hope everyone’s going to have a better week than I’ve started to have! If you’ve been in on Ida’s gift of rain, do stay safe and I hope things dry up for you quickly. And I hope they can get the power back on in New Orleans! At least the levees held this time, though….

    • allein 🐾 September 4, 2021 / 10:08 pm

Oh, no! Hope Hubby continues to get better and daughter is okay.

My uncle was in the hospital a couple weeks ago and is now in rehab; my mom went to see him the other day and couldn’t go in because a staff member tested positive. So sick of this virus!

    • Tara September 5, 2021 / 7:08 pm

Laura – am just seeing your post – will keep your hubby and daughter in my thoughts. Every medical thing now takes on extra anxiety. Keep us posted.
