It is a glorious day in autumn, and in Maru’s backyard the trees are radiant with reds and yellows. Kitten Miri climbs the tallest tree while Hana watches nervously below. And with a single red leaf placed upon his head, Maru is crowned the supreme monarch of the backyard kingdom.
The Udon is Done
For much of his life, Maru has kneaded, poked, and prodded until finally he has created the perfect cup of udon noodles. And now comes the moment when we reveal this culinary masterpiece to the world aaaaaaand… he’s eaten it.
Miri’s such a brave girl!
I wonder what she and the bird were discussing…
I wouldn’t mind a cup of those noodles.
Love Maru with the leaf on his big, fluffy head. Every year, Mugu just can’t resist. 😻
In case anyone was worried about Miri in the tree XD
“I wrote in the video that I watch quietly. In reality, however, I can’t help interfering.
“Don’t go any further!” or “It’s about time to come down!”
But I have to be really quiet because my noise distracts her attention.
And Maru was running, apparently he had pine oil on his paw.”

Kitten Miri looks so beautiful filmed against the red leaf background. She is so brave!
There’s a pretty red Japanese maple in front of our house, but sadly without kitties! Oh, well, I’ll just watch Michaux watch the falling leaves in here!
We had a big Japanese maple on the corner of the yard next to our driveway when I was a kid. A landscaping company doing work in the area asked my parents if they could buy it. I don’t know the price they offered but my dad accepted if they also agreed to move the smaller one on the other side of the yard into the spot; the smaller one was under another tree (a regular maple, actually) so it didn’t get enough sun; did much better after it was moved.
Maru is getting old, and coming down that ladder, he looked old. He seemed to be limping a bit as he walked away. Maybe a touch of arthritis. (Stairs do the same thing to me, and descending is harder than ascending.) Do we know why there’s a hill in Mugumogu’s yard (or garden, since she uses proper British English)? Did she install it for the cats? It can’t be natural.
I noticed his difficulty on the ladder too. Let’s hope it’s timidity or awkwardness rather than pain.
I think he’s been showing his age for a few months, bless him.
NOOOOOOOO. He’s the same age as my Sevi, and I can’t imagine the world without both of them in it.
Maru may never make a better video than his udon one. It showed every aspect of his glorious and kooky personality.
