It can be dark at night when mama wombats like to forage. It’s a good thing they come with a pouch that lets baby see if it’s all clear behind, and also make that “beep-beep-beep” warning sound when mama backs up. (Facebook via Murray C.)

Gotta admit…that’s kinda freaky.
But such a cute little face!
I agree Allein. I know there’s an evolutionary reason for having the pouch facing that particular way but still, it just looks soo wrong, having a face peeking out from the rear. I like how he looked like he was trying to decide/figure out how to come out of the pouch, that lil paw poking out every so often. Too cute!!
I’m not sure I’d be comfortable as a wombat. It’s better to just enjoy them while retaining my humanity.
Seeing a head coming out of an animals’s butt is really disconcerting.
