It’s the rare elusive fishing cat! But still a cutie and blends well with his surroundings.

Lots of drama this week at chez AJ. First our roommate who we’ve helped with various things including getting his latest job with a friend of ours, totally messed up said job and got fired. Mind you, this is job #4 he’s gotten fired from/laid off in 1 year. Then he lied to my hubby twice about the circumstances of the situation and also tried to throw our friend under the bus by saying she didn’t train him. Thank goodness the big bosses knew her work ethic and saw through that. So we told him it’s not working out and he needs to be out by the end of the month. Since he lied so easily to my husband, we’re now questioning what else he misrepresented over the last year. So it’s been a little tense in the house lately.

Then we had the fireplace inspector out and oh boy, good thing we didn’t try having a fire. The previous owners did use and after this report I’m surprised the whole house didn’t go up. The firebox has gaps where there shouldn’t be, the flue up to the top has gaps and cracks plus the outside chimney isn’t the right height. The inspector marked a big DO NOT USE on my receipt. Oh well, having a fireplace was just a nice bonus so now it’s something to add to the fix it list. I guess I can always add a nice decorative insert to it.

And to top off the week, my nephew-in-law who works on a cattle ranch, had a 600 lb fence fall on him and caused some major injuries – broken pelvis and ribs, bruised bladder and various minor injuries. He’s had surgery to place pins in his pelvis but he’s got a long recovery ahead of him. Some good thought would be appreciated.

So today is a day to relax and not think about all this. First breakfast, then a haircut and off to the Home and Garden Show to get ideas (and maybe find workers) to help us deal with our jungle, and building a small rental house. Happy weekend everyone!

Wow, AJ. Sending good thoughts to you and your NIL. I’m glad you’re relaxing and taking care of yourself today.

Mr. Gray Legs looks sooo comfy and relaxed!

And AJ, sending out the most positive vibes for your nephew in law. 💕🤞

The week started OK, Monday we went to IKEA to buy a few things and have Swedish meatballs for lunch. After lunch and don’t ask me how but I managed to hurt my leg walking in the store, it’s the same leg I’ve injured before and if it’s like the last time I’ll be limping for a couple of weeks before it stops hurting.

To add insult to injury, yesterday I went to buy some cat food for Beans because I only had 8 little cans left and the Fish and shrimp Feast Flaked is the only wet food she eats but I couldn’t find it in the stores. I checked on the internet only to find that Fancy Feast has discontinued it in January 2022!

OK she won’t starve because she eat dry kibble, the wet food is more of a treat situation for her but when she wants it she demands it LOUDLY! So I’m prepared for a very angry vocal cat in a couple of weeks when I run out!

You might look at the Fancy Feast Gourmet Naturals Wild Alaskan Salmon & Shrimp, as a substitute.

Supply chain issues, and many other factors impacting cat food availability. More pet owners, aluminum shortage, ingredient shortages, etc …………

The HPAI ( Highly Pathenogenic Avian Influenza) outbreak is affecting turkey and chicken flocks across the USA. Expect prices for pet food with these ingredients and human food including eggs, to go way up in price, and limited availability will be ongoing for a year or more.

P.s. One of my friends is a state poultry inspector.

      • Debg April 9, 2022 / 2:50 pm

        Good to know.

    • Debg April 9, 2022 / 2:50 pm

When Beans isn’t happy, nobody is happy. Hopefully you can find a substitute in time.

Wow! Sounds like this weekend went downhill fast!
AJ, sending supportive thoughts and prayers for your nephew.
Georgiana, have you checked amazon? Often they will have an item available long after stores don’t.
I decided to test my physical endurance on Thursday by a rugged terrain walk, and now know exactly what I should NOT ever do again. I’ll let you know if/when my body forgives me. Suffice to say, hills more than eight degrees are forbidden. Especially going downhill OR up.
Hubby enjoying new job. His hours are frustrating for me, but that’s my problem.
Duckie doing well; however, she is spending a lot more time sitting on the perch just outside her cage doing nothing. I don’t mind being so close to her so much, but it does concern me a bit that she might be older than we all thought at first. But she’s still cute.
    Have a great weekend, everyone.

I had a tragi-comic experience last week. Tempted by a summer dress in a department store I tried it on, took one look at myself in the full-length mirror, thought “My God, you look 60 in that”…then remembered that I am in fact 62. On a more positive note, last night I saw a touring production of “La Boheme” at my local theatre. The place was packed, and other than a fairly small number of people wearing masks it was almost like the impossibly distant pre-pandemic days. Sadly it was also the last time I’ll be able to attend an evening performance as my father gets uneasy if I’m out alone after dark.

    • Dulcie April 9, 2022 / 2:34 pm

I am constantly shocked by the realization that I am either as old, or older, than the folks I consider old. 😫😜🤔
And the pandemic… higher risk to seniors over 50/60… thankfully that’s not me… OH NO WAIT!! It IS me!! 🤯

    • Debg April 9, 2022 / 9:53 pm

Alice, did you *buy* the dress? It makes you look younger!

Hope your dad is doing okay.

      • Alice Shortcake April 10, 2022 / 2:34 am

No, I came to the decision that dresses with shirred bodices are best avoided as they show every unsightly bulge. From now on it’s strictly “loose and flowing”! My dad isn’t doing too well, unfortunately – he’s been treated for a leg ulcer and his memory is now very poor.

        • Dulcie April 10, 2022 / 11:45 am

Oh dear. Sorry to hear that Alice. Take care.

        • Dubravkamcvmd April 10, 2022 / 1:06 pm

I’m sorry to hear about your father’s decline. My mother had dementia and it was very difficult and sad. I feel for you. I hope you have some help.

        • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 11, 2022 / 7:33 am

I’m so sorry about your father, Alice. I hope you have someone to help, or ways to decompress.

      That’s so funny and cute!

    • Debg April 9, 2022 / 2:52 pm

That is one smart birb. Also gorgeous.

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 11, 2022 / 7:34 am

Whatever it is, it doesn’t show up for me at all. There was a birb?

      • allein 🐾 April 11, 2022 / 8:57 am

It’s a (mostly)green/pink/yellow birb (lovebird?) on the back of a couch, and the caption says “When she hears this song she can’t resist…”

The song is the beginning of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and each time it says “turn around…” she spins in a circle.

(It’s a facebook video; I tried to find it on youtube but couldn’t.)

  7. Duckie 🐥 April 9, 2022 / 1:23 pm

Just opened yesterday’s mail. Tax center sent back my form because I forgot to include four whole pages of zeros!
Cute lovebirb is just obeying the voice.

    • allein🐾 April 9, 2022 / 1:29 pm

She’s probably wondering why everyone is laughing. “I’m just doing what it says!”

      • Dulcie April 9, 2022 / 4:53 pm

I wish we didn’t have to hear the laughing.

  8. Debg April 9, 2022 / 2:56 pm

Happy Caturday, everybody! And Mr. Gray is at least 5 times cuter with the dangly bits.

I’m celebrating the day by upsetting my cats. Haven’t cleaned the house–I mean really cleaned–since 2016, when my dad came out to visit. Now that my brother, who’s allergic to cats, is on the way, I’m trying to minimize the cat hair. (HAH) If everybody comes over, even for just half an hour, I don’t want anybody to suffer. That also means moving Litter Robot and Fred’s box into the bedroom, because the Weasleycats will hide under the bedspread if there are visitors. I can try shutting them in so they don’t have an accident; we’ll see.

So much drama for everybody this week! Including me. I hope things settle down soon. Hugs to you all.

  9. Emsthemonster April 9, 2022 / 5:09 pm

This week has indeed been craptastic.

    • AJ April 9, 2022 / 6:35 pm

Well the only good thing about crappy weeks is that it should only get better. Hopefully it doesn’t get any worse.

And thanks everyone for the good thoughts, latest update is that NIL has been moved out of ICU to a regular room and seems to be in good spirits.

      • Dulcie April 9, 2022 / 6:45 pm

        Yay AJ. 👍

      • Debg April 9, 2022 / 9:52 pm

        Good! That’s a big relief.

    • Debg April 9, 2022 / 9:51 pm

      Hope you’re doing okay, Ems.

      • Dulcie April 10, 2022 / 1:35 am

Ditto Ems. Hopefully you are doing ok. 💕

        • Emsthemonster April 10, 2022 / 1:47 pm

Thank you, Dulcie and Debg. I’m OK, I’ve just had enough of this week 🙂
Nothing very serious here, just the constant annoying surprises of life.
